He carried him from under the chest, cupped under his arm in the crook of the elbow. Once at the room, he set the boy down and let him be. Gabriel made his way outside, smoked a cigarette, and contemplated the tangled family tree they were getting into, and then let it go. He went back inside, read for a while more, and then fell asleep where he sat.
