He'd been lingering since that day, far beyond the borders of the pack, but close enough that the wind would bring the scent that he had been seeking. The boy had wanted him to stay, to come home, even if the child wasn't aware of all of the bad that Conri had done in his life. Even so, it felt good to be wanted again. He was flesh and blood that Conri should have never known, flesh and blood that his new family should have done their best to keep away from his estranged father. Conri had gotten a taste of love, or at least what he had construed in his head as love. The boy didn't know him, didn't share that connection with him that he likely did with his mother. There was kindness there though and that was all that Conri needed to believe that there could be something more. Maybe he could be a father.

"Salem?" He called aloud, perhaps to loud for his own good, as the wind swept the boy's scent across the borders and to the nose of the lurking luperci. In that one short excited moment, it didn't matter to Conri if anyone else heard him, as long as his son knew that he was there. As long as Salem knew that he had been lurking, hoping to visit. So long as the boy knew his father cared. He rose from against a tree, where he'd stopped to take a rest, hunched over and moving forward carefully. He peered from beyond the line of trees, hoping that he would spot anyone coming over the borders before they had a chance to spot him.
