Sankor was moving closer to the graveyard. Upon realizing that he would undoubtedly notice her if she did not move, the Koios girl slinked off the tombstone and sat on the humid ground, bringing her knees up to her chest. The child in her was coming out; her insecurities were slowly seeping out and dissolving her confidence. Beige ears perked up, analyzing the sound of her brother’s footsteps to decipher how close he really was. Too damn close. She remained as still as a statue, not really realizing that no matter how quiet she was, her scent had probably alerted him of her presence already.

She eventually found out the hard way when he called out her name and asked her to come on out. The caregiver shook her head stubbornly, refusing to let her littermate see her this way. Granted, he’d seen her go through bad days when they were younger, but this was different. Everyone had their way of dealing with the children’s recent disappearance but Alexey was taking it really hard. Those little fur balls were the children she’d never have and now they were gone.

“I’m not in the mood for one of your lectures, Sankor!” she called out from her hiding spot, refusing to move.
