313. For Jassy (:

Wind gusts caught in the outstretched branches of nearby sugar maple trees, resembling a waltz between forest and breeze. It was a rather chilly afternoon but Honoré barely felt it; he was kept warm by the chic plaid scarf wrapped snuggly around his neck, as usual. The Sugarwoods had already been deemed his favorite place in Souls. It reminded him so much of the sugarhouses back in Quebec. Not to mention, he had a sweet tooth for anything sugary; maple syrup was such a delicacy. Mmm! Just the thought of it made him lick his chops greedily. If gluttony was one of the seven deadly sins, he was a very sinful man indeed!

First step was to drill a two inch hole in one of the trees; an old corkscrew was all he had to complete this task but he still managed to do so in a timely manner. This wasn’t his first time extracting maple sap from a tree; it was sort of a second nature to him. Screwing in the spout was the next step; luckily, Honoré had found a few in one of the cabins nearby. He then used the hook at the end of the spout to suspend his bucket, and voila! All done!

Now he had to repeat the process all over again; tapping more trees meant more sap in the end. It was a lot of work but his efforts would pay off in the end, he knew that much. Honoré planned on bringing some of the amber liquid back to Phoenix Valley. It would give him the opportunity to make friends with his new packmates. Not many people knew how to make syrup, sadly enough. Perhaps he could teach some of them how to do so; it could be quite interesting. The Loas thought about it some more as he got to work on tree number two.
