Kol's heart leapt as her fangs found a sensitive mark. The creature yowled in pain as he recoiled, giving the girl the opening she needed to roll quickly to her feet. As her violet eyes rested on the form of the raging beast, she knew she couldn't run. He was larger than she, and Kol was quicker, but her breathing was ragged and forced as she faced him off. The bulk of the monster was as yet undamaged, while Kol's ribs, shoulders, and most of her torso screamed in fiery pain. There was no way she'd be able to outrun the loner in her current state; her only chance would be to wound him seriously enough to make him retreat. It was a miniscule chance, like a tiny life-bearing planet in the sea of endless space, but it was her only chance. Escape would only bring death that much quicker.

Time stood still for a moment as Kol blinked the blood from her eyes. She shuddered to think what her face probably looked like, though the fleeting image of Svara's scarred visage instantly eased her vain worries. Things could always get worse, that was what her mother would say. It mattered little what she looked like, at least her enemy hadn't succeeded in blinding her. The Stormbringer pushed back the pain from her various wounds, the scent of her own blood strong in her sensitive nose. She was covered in it now, from her face, to her throat, her shoulders, her ribs. Flicking her right ear softly, the girl was amazed to find her earring still intact and attached. She didn't have long to ponder that irony, however, as before long the beast was launching himself at her. This time on the defensive, Kol dug her hind claws into the thick earth and braced to meet his flying form, her claws aiming for his shoulders as her fangs went for the softness of his throat.
