It seemed peculiar, to Gabriel, that in the course of only a few weeks he had gone from complete isolation to a full house, and then back again. His son and Siobhan had taken up residence not that far from his own home, and Zana (whom he had now confirmed as his niece) was living with Ryan. Faolin and the man she had arrived with were like ghosts, and he could no longer ignore the suspicion brewing in his heart. It was a slow thing, but it was vicious—and as he responded to all pain, anger was the answer.

He walked along the shore in the chance she was there, that he might find them, that perhaps all the hope he had once held for her was for naught. Doubt plagued each step, a whispering voice that sounded not unlike his father’s. This pattern had held the same for several days now, and each time he came here the anger grew.

It crested as an all-too familiar sight appeared just outside of their borders. Gabriel could not contain his fury, and it rushed over his features. The hair along his spine rose, and his lips pulled back in a vicious snarl. “Get the fuck out of here,” he barked loudly, advancing quickly towards the silver hybrid.
