The sudden chaotic flip in her lover's personality startled the Stormbringer into total quiescence. His eyes, usually an indescribably warm shade of umber, were blazing hot as a raging wildfire as his words lashed out at her. Violet eyes took in everything, from that intense fire to the battle he was fighting with his urge to hit something. His words stung as he attacked her, Kol still a bit too stunned to react for the moment. He was always so controlled, so gentle, that she was having a hard time making herself believe this passionately furious wolf was the same man she was still denying she'd grown to love.

Tension filled the air around the couple as Kol fought to understand what he was saying, then fought some more to form a reaction to him. Harsh silence seemed to last an eternity as she was the first to break the stare, her amethyst eyes doing as Elliott had suggested and fully taking in the extent of her condition. She had been incredibly wreckless, nearly throwing her life away in one instant of pure stupidity and overconfidence. It was a mistake she would never make again. She just hadn't realized until she brought her eyes back up to meet the male's that it wasn't only herself who stood to lose something. After all, how would she have felt if it had been Alexey in her shoes? She would have done exactly what the Koios woman had in saving her life, and if it had been Elliott, she'd probably be reacting exactly the same way as he was.

Then again, Elliott wasn't nearly as stubborn and hard-headed as she herself was, and would have realized long before she did that what she did with her life no longer affected only her.

It had happened without Kol ever even realizing it. Others had come to love her, and she'd grown to love them in return. Alexey was like a sister to her, closer even to her than her blood siblings were, aside from Drey. Haku was a kindred spirit, Cercelee was the gentle-natured yet strong-willed role model Kol's mother had always tried to be. And Elliott...

Something snapped inside the Stormbringer's heart as those burning eyes glared down at her. Behind the rage in them, she could finally see what else was there. Fear and worry mixed with something else were clear as day in his stare, and it finally all clicked. He loved her. All the posing, all their countless midnight talks and dream-like nights spent in each other's arms were not the superficial lie she always feared them to be. She'd loved and lost before, and she'd always felt it was a matter of time before Elliott grew tired or bored of their love affair, and he'd be on to brighter and better things. At least, that was what she'd believed all this time. It was far easier to deal with the pain of being thrown away if you were prepared for it and constantly expecting it. It was far more agonizing to let your hopes build, only to be shattered with a single word.

Kol's wall came crashing down in an instant as she held her lover's stare. Tears welled up in her violet eyes as she finally let herself discard the mask, and her voice broke as she whispered the only thing she could possibly say. "I'm such an idiot. Elliott, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry..." She hated letting anyone see her break down (it meant admitting a weakness she stubbornly wished not to possess), but it was too late. The confusion, denial, and all the months of convincing herself the male she loved could never possibly love someone like her had been building up to this point. All it took was the look in Elliott's eyes to make it all come crashing down around her, baring her soul and forcing her to realize just how utterly stupid and blind she'd truly been.
