I know I have issues

Short, but there wasn't much for me to write. If you're busy, we can end it here. Alternatively, you can have Haku follow at a distance and approach Brennt when he's 'thinking straight' again.

The brown wolf passed, and the predator hastily made its way outside of the enclosure, keeping attentive in case it heard the sounds of approach. Contrary to its expectation, the male had not chosen to fight on the puppy's account, or even out of anger. He hadn't even fought over it as a food source. That might mean that he was afraid of it, that its vicious instinct and size intimidated him. The predator wasn't sure, but if it could get out of here without having to fight over its meal, that was all the better. Even the predator--for all its viciousness and simplicity of thought--knew that it wasn't worth fighting over every meal. Battle was draining, and the point of eating was to fill up, not to make yourself need even more food.

The creature quickly set out, towards the outskirts of the city. It had a very vague understanding and respect for the canine who lived deeper in. It did not truly remember that it was friends with her, only that she had territory it wasn't supposed to go into, and that even though it could overpower her, it didn't desire to. Brennt could be friends with Maz, but this monster could never be that. It did not know names, or have accurate memories of things it did at times when it did know names. It was a creature with a very narrow range of capabilities, but what it did, it did quite well.

After a time, Brennt began to re-emerge from himself, and the layers of limited understanding of the world of words and names and complicated societies and ideas came back. It was a gradual process, he never snapped back the same way he sometimes snapped forward. The change was generally one that took several minutes to complete. In this case, with the child's blood still fresh on his tongue, the beast was satiated, and it wasn't difficult going back. He was far away from Maz...he felt like playing. Maybe he should go back? He almost turned around, before something began to worry him. It took four minutes of standing and thinking hard before he figured out what it was: he remembered eating someone, he probably shouldn't let her smell it. He would take a drink and swim in a stream for a while, first.
