A ray of light poked through the clouds that greedily gripped at the sun, shining down on the lightly colored canine who scampered along on four limbs. Though at six months he had made the transformation to Luperci a few times, Notre Dame was still far more comfortable in his natural form. It had been a couple of weeks since his mother's disappearance, and though at first Notre had held onto hope that she might return, that she had only gotten lost and was hurriedly finding her way back to him, he had now fully come to terms with the fact that Ana Cate had never wanted anything to do with him, and had only carried him along as a reminder of the love she'd lost, and the problems she'd caused. That was what he stood for, pain and suffering. A heavy burden for a young creature, but one he carried completely.

Notre Dame had no possessions of his own, anything he'd owned had been temporary--a piece of bark to draw on then leave behind, a lizard to knock around and then set free--temporary, just like everything in his life. He wasn't quite sure where his heavy limbs were carrying him, Notre saw no further than the present, frightened of the future and discouraged by the past. He'd do as he had done for the last week since he'd been on the move: walk and walk, sleep, awaken, walk and walk, catch a rabbit or squirrel if he could manage one, walk and walk, etc. He had yet to encounter any real person, only catching old scents. It would be a lie to say he minded, for Notre Dame surely wanted little to do with any other people. People were trouble, wolves or dogs or whatever else they might be, all they brought was pain. This, of all things, he had learned and learned well.
