the castle

___ La Chateau. It was a grand name for the beach home, but had Apollo known the meaning, would have easily agreed. This place was practically a castle. It was comprised of three stories. The bottom floor had a large open sitting room with a wall made entirely of windows, looking out over the shore that was just a couple dozen yards away. Behind this room was a long corridor, housing two bedrooms, a laundry room, and a bathroom. But that was just the beginning.

___If you climbed the stairs to the second floor, there was another sitting room with a wall of windows. This, too, looked out over the picturesque water. And separated by a small step in the floor, was a large kitchen and dining room, and a small front porch (as La Chateau was situated on an embankment). There was a master bedroom here with its own bathroom that supported a rather large tub, big enough for any Luperci to lounge comfortably. And lastly, there was a huge attic room above, with a small sitting area arranged by the windows, and a number of forgotten beds. It was miraculous. And Apollo, dumbfounded as he was, had it all to himself.

___ The young Haddix made his way down the stairs from the attic, gripping the wooden hand rail as he went. He was sure that if he didn’t support himself, he was going to fall over. This place was nothing like the buildings in Halifax. This place was gorgeous. It didn’t take him long to make his way out of the home and down to the shore. There was an old dock that went out a couple of meters, but Apollo didn’t trust it. After all these years, he wasn’t sure it would hold up much longer. He dropped himself down onto the pebbly shore, resting his forearms on his knees. This would be a nice place to live, he decided. Though it was kind of far from Crimson Dreams, it offered plenty of privacy.
