It only took a few seconds for his niece to return his call, her voice emerging from the depths of the Aston family den. The tone she’d used wasn’t what he’d expected to hear; she sounded alarmed! His insecurities flared up momentarily as he inched closer to the main entrance, a billion questions zipping through his mind. What was she doing in there? Wrinkles riddled his face and he squished his forehead into a suspicious frown. Didn’t she want to see him? What if she was with someone else? A new best friend! The corners of his mouth curled into a sullen pout, displaying his rising anxiety.

He was hesitant at first, but he finally mustered up the courage to find his sister’s daughter. As he neared the back of the den, a feathery creature smacked head first into his legs. He could only blink a few times, completely taken aback by the bizarre turn of events. The bandaged duck eventually wobbled away from him, going left and right, strutting around aimlessly in a way that made Honoré quite jealous. Its walk reminded him of his runway model strut, and he definitely did not like competition in that department. Did Noir prefer this duck’s walk to her own uncle’s stylish stride?

“Noir! What is this stupid du-“ The second part of his inquiry died in his throat as his hazel-colored orbs found the form of his niece. Granted, there wasn't much to see aside from her head sticking out of a box. The mess in which she’d gotten herself was far from surprising and his stoic expression mirrored how accustomed he’d grown to little Noir’s antics. “And you say I’m fat, eh?” he said, assessing the situation. How was he supposed to get her out of there? “Wait wait, maybe I push your head in and get you unstuck okay?”
