you never seem to have enough - j

The sandy-furred pup blinked his bright yellow eyes, surprised that the woman had decided to run away. He did not think he was particularly terrifying. And he did not think he had done anything wrong. He flicked his ears back and cocked his head to the side as he considered her from her perch in the tree. She seemed upset, and he did not have the slightest clue as to why. Shrugging his small shoulders, he clamped his mouth shut. He did not think talking to her would help.

The pup turned around and faced away form her. Maybe she would feel comfortable enough to climb down if he was not watching her. He had no idea what he had done or said to scare her off, but he did not feel very sorry about it. He really did not think he had done anything wrong. She had called out two names, and they were not names that Mason had recognized. The boy wondered if these two creatures would come.

Was everyone around here weird? Mason had had very little contact with others, the red woman being the first creature he had seen in nearly a week. He only hoped that someone else would come around and be willing to talk to him. Sighing, the pup stood shivering in the rain and waited patiently for someone to come.
