For Sofia; The Trenches. 300+

Though they covered the expanse of the sky as far as he could see, the pale Captain was glad for the thin layer clouds that hung like a protective cloak above him. He didn't want to see the sun, not until he felt he deserved the light it would bring. The lull in the rain had prompted him to get as far away from Crimson Dreams as possible. He needed a break from the familiarity, the reminders in Haven Manor's every room of the things he'd done wrong. He would not really have minded poking around the areas surrounding his home if it had been raining, but running off in some random direction without purpose would not have been nearly as tempting. Today, with one look out the window at the dry sky, he'd bolted out the door, down off the porch, and into the forest with little regard for his destination. Kansas wanted to fly away for a few hours, where he could cause no one any tragedy.

The Sadira panted as he moved south. The air was muggy, holding fast to him like a massive fist. Still, it felt good to be moving so quickly, so aimlessly. After several hours and countless miles, he noticed the land becoming rockier, the grass marred by spots of stones and pebbles; the earth rolled into gentle hills, and he noticed the wind picking up. He must be at a slightly higher altitude. Kansas paused at the crest of a particularly steep rise, gazing around him. The view was breathtaking. There was a lake in the distance, the land sloping in toward the coast in the opposite direction. He sat upon his haunches, losing himself in the beautiful landscape as he breathed the deliciously crisp and new air.
