one safe place

He was happy. Of course, the idea of being happy had never crossed his mind ― he simply was, and felt that he had never had any reason to be anything else. He was a social creature by nature, and still he missed the company of those his own age, but with Faolin, he had not felt any less comfortable or any more misplaced. In fact, her presence had been welcome, even before he had so much as an inkling that they shared common family ties (more or less). Loneliness was not a question anymore, or shouldn't have been, as his exploration and little adventures within the clan territory had kept him more than occupied. Besides, here he was not alone, and even if he felt it, there was no chance whatsoever that he would complain of it. There were plenty of other coyotes he could meet, other places to investigate, and the most important of all: family. Having family around him was something that he felt he could never trade for anything, nor would he ever want to. The next time he went in search of family (Segodi), he would surely tell someone (Faolin), because he could not risk losing any of them again.

Although the territory seemed desolate enough, he found everything he came across to be absolutely fascinating. Since his arrival, he had awoken early every morning to watch the sun rise, spend his day instigating his own distractions, and when the sun began to duck down beyond the horizon, he would watch the sky until his eyes began to close before finally trudging his way back to the house and taking quiet refuge in the room that he had chosen as his sister had suggested. Now, the snow had stopped falling all together, and the sky had cleared, the sunlight finally shining down on him again, and he nosed his way under low branches among the treeline that stood outside the beach until he emerged. Large ears flipped this way and that while maintaining a middle ground forward toward the sea, his tail wagging happily, and his eyes bright with wonder.
