It’s all right. Smile

_____ Kansas had the inkling that, if it ever did occur that one of Phoenix’s children was chosen to be the leader somewhere along the line, it would not be him. He didn’t have much of an understanding about what an alpha was, other than the boss of a pack; but while the “fame” it would have promised sounded nice, it was a big job. He didn’t see how his father did it, let alone how he could, if the opportunity ever arose. It seemed more suited to Firefly, somehow. At least he had concluded that she was stronger than him, thus more suited to “big jobs” like leading Storm. That is, if the role ever happened to fall to any of his siblings.

_____ He fully exited the confines of the den and stepped into the sunlight, squinting against the bright rays. His father’s words comforted him, as they always did. He wasn’t sure how much trouble was ordinarily given by intruders, but if Phoenix wasn’t worried about it, neither was Kansas. “I know. We gotta keep them safe, huh?” he responded, hoping he was right. The child gave a small smile and waited a little ways from the den for his father, his thrill building up again. “Where are we going to start?” This would give him not only the opportunity to spend time with his father, but to explore the areas of Storm he’d yet to see.
