Phoenix was happy that Iskata gave his children a heritage and large clan out there, since it was something he himself couldn't provide for his children. The Phoenix clan wasn't much of a clan just yet--quite a fledgling concept, but the patriarch hoped that one day Storm (and perhaps even the rest of Bleeding Souls) would be filled with Phoenixes. Kansas was without a doubt a child of the Sadiras. Right now the massive male couldn't see much of himself in his son, but he had the pale tones and the blue eyes of Iskata's line. That was all right by Phoenix--if anything, Kansas (and Firefly) was the anchor that attached him to a larger family.
Long ago Phoenix had learned not to overestimate his abilities, yet within the confines of the pack he was confident that there was no single threat that he could not overcome. He had fought and shed blood for the pack and come out alive each time, because he was stronger than average and he had something he believed in and loved to defend. And, in the off chance that he did actually encounter a foe that was too much for him, help was merely a howl away. Phoenix doubted he would run into any trouble today, but in the unlikely event that someone did come in looking for trouble, Kansas would be sent away, not allowed to be put in harm's way. The purpose of this excursion was to bond with his son, not put him in danger.
Where to start, indeed. Storm's claims encompased a large area of land, and Phoenix could not cover it all himself. neither could his single Spaher, which was why he helped patrol the borders. "We'll start south a'here, move our way east," Phoenix answered as he took off in a slow trot towards the edge of Storm that was closest to where he loved. Back when he'd been a mere Subordinate he'd been happy to have a den deep within the heart of Storm; now as Alpha the location was a bit of an inconvenience. But this ws where his family now lived; there were too many memories preventing him from moving. "If you ever get tired, lemme know an' we can take a small break, okay?"
