The irony of the whole situation was that Phoenix had done nothing but travel during his childhood. He’s seen quite a few sights and learned many things about the world around him, but throughout the entire time he’d been too miserable to care. The excitement of his life had been totally unappreciated at the time, since said “excitement” was usually of the life-and-death variety. All he’d wanted was a stable home and a family. Here in Storm he was settled and happy, and would be content to spend the rest of his life here.

Even then there was more in the world that he hadn’t seen then what he had, but he still had plenty interesting tales to recount to youngsters. Sure, he could look back at those memories now and not feel as affected by them, but back then they had been no fun at all. Usually he told such tales to try to impress upon the next generation how lucky they truly were and how they needed to cherish their family. Kansas didn’t seem to take such things for granted, but that was no reason for Phoenix to withhold such stories from him. Sharing experiences was a good way for father and son to bond.

Normally Phoenix traversed the land and a much more rapid rate, but he slowed down so his son could keep up. It felt good to once again have a small form tagging along beside him. Sun and Moon had outgrown that long ago, and Dierdre hadn’t gotten to do it often with him since her home mad been on the other side of the valley. It was a long trek for a pup, and Phoenix had tried to appreciate the efforts she went through to see him each time. “It’s pretty big,” Phoenix answered vaguely. “Storm takes up only a small part of the valley, an’ there’s a lotta different parts t’see.” Indeed, Bleeding Souls had a wealth of diversity to enrich its inhabitants’ lives. “Mebbe someday we’ll go explorin’ some new place t’gether, eh? You, me, maybe your brother and sisters… How wouldja like that?”
