Knees bent gracefully, her thighs resting on her feet, Hanna considered the items in front of her, which consisted of a length of tubing, a needle, and a vinyl bag wrapped in plastic. The objects in question were not unfamiliar to the medic; she'd used them in an emergency before, to save her niece's life. What was on the woman's mind was whether or not the use of the materials was warranted in this case.
She'd been sitting in the old hospital for a couple hours, gathering things and attempting to make herself as ready as she could possibly be for anything that might happen during Mew's delivery. While the woman was relatively sure that her niece's problems with her previous litter had more to do with her injuries and less to do with anything in or about Mew herself, she wanted to make sure all the bases were covered in case she was wrong.
Her thought was that with Colibri Soul missing, either she or Haku would be Mew's closest match for blood if she began hemorrhaging and needed that life-fluid replaced. Hanna doubted greatly that her chocolate nephew would allow her near him with a needle, even if he was in a condition himself to donate. That left herself. And her reluctance to donate her own blood came not from the idea of it hurting or leaving her weak, but from being unsure how she would keep the blood fresh until the time came she needed to use it.
She knew blood thickened; the scabs left over were what protected injuries while the skin repaired itself, and scabs were naught but dried blood. She knew also that humans had come up with some agent to keep the blood from thickening, but if there was any other way, Hanna didn't know of it.
Rising from her seat, she collected a couple more sets of bags and tubing from the rooms that were near the one she had been in and carried them back there, then withdrew her knife from the right-hand sheath to begin carefully removing the fur from the inside of her left arm.
