[M] a vampire in the devil town.

Now Mason was feeling completely out of place. He kind of snuffled and half-whined within the depths of the skull that engulfed his head and shoulders. With frustration, he twisted underneath his mask and tried to get a good look at what everyone was doing and saying. Finally, he sighed and began to scuttled backward, the battered fangs of the skull scraping across the floor with a screeching sound.

Mason did not want to abandon the skull. Although it was cumbersome, he was still quite proud that he had found it. He did not want to abandon this treasure, but he had no other way of carrying it. He struggled with it, trying to avoid being stepped on as he continued on his way. As he squirmed underneath the skull, the eye holes shifted to let him spy Halo and Hybrid.

The boy struggled, keeping the edges of Halo's skirts in sight. He did not want to bump into the Hydra, though. She had taken the time to almost smile at him, but she had not gone any further. The only other interaction he had had with her had been when she had killed the rogue wolf at the borders.

He found that in this situation he gravitated more toward her. It was not necessarily the slight kindness she had shown him now, or the fact that she was female. Mason knew better than to expect that others would be kind to him outright. He did not expect to be harmed by someone in Inferni, but he was of the school of thought that he would have to earn any respect. Usually, Kaena represented his "safe place" and Gabe also gave him a sense of security, but they were both otherwise engaged. And so Mason followed closely behind Halo, because she was the closest to him in age, as far as he could see. He felt the coolness of the air on his face, and stopped just short of bumping into Hybrid's heels. He scooted back quickly, so as not to disturb this new stranger.
