lost into the weight of gravity

She would never learn. It just wasn't something she was capable of, not when it came to him. She couldn't trust men, to the point of driving her into the arms of a woman; she couldn't muster the self-esteem to consider herself an attractive wolf, because she looked so much like the father who haunted her; and still, she couldn't condemn him, either. It wasn't her father who had raped her of her innocence, it was the darkness behind his eyes, the spirit that possessed him. There was a clear distinction to her. Her real father was still in there somewhere. It was just unfortunate that he did not come out today.

Colibri hugged her arms across her chest, blue eyes watering as she felt them burning. The gouges seared, hot like fire where the blood oozed down her fur. She hadn't felt her blood be drawn in such a long time... He had been the first to do that to her, too. Everything was a blur. She couldn't focus on anything, her wild eyes flashing as she tried to flee, just like a panicked doe with the scent of the wolf in her nostrils. Another agonized shriek tore from her throat as she felt him rake her hip, his slashing fangs knocking her off-balance. Her knees buckled, dropping her to the forest floor as she clutched at her hip, rocking instinctively to try and offset the throbbing ache. As the Lilium's claws came whistling through the air, forward momentum propelling his maiming strike, she choked out a sob, "Wh-why, Dad?"

Then she was jerked backwards, the deadly claws missing her face by a whisker-length. Disoriented by the sudden movement, she went limp, burying her face in the soft fur. Someone, pulling her away, hands grabbing at her. It couldn't be Anu. She must be hallucinating again - wasn't her life supposed to flash before her eyes? There wasn't much she wanted to see again, other than the sandy-furred leader of Crimson Dreams. But she would never want Anu to have to face Haku. That would be her worst nightmare, because no matter the outcome, she would lose.

“Run!” cried the voice, cutting through her dizzying panic. It sounded like Anu. If Anu wanted her to run, she should do so. She should do anything Anu asked her to, her mind suggested reasonably. Finally responding, her fingers closed tightly around her rescuer's slim wrists, the strength of desperation making her squeeze far too hard. Haku would never want her around, and she didn't want to die this time. She had to follow the one person who would let her live in peace. Though the exchange took only moments, it felt like an eternity from her detached view as her exhausted body lurched forward again, stumbling to run away with her first love.
