In your eyes, forsaken me

She wouldn’t forgive herself, couldn’t. Each time her eyes lingered on the woman’s face Anu would know that she had not protected her. Guilt, pain, the vision of crimson stained fur would fill her mind. The knowledge he knew who he was, the inkling that he might come after her should have been enough to never allow her to step foot into the male’s territory. But…

They were going to die.

It didn’t matter, or make a notion of difference how she might feel in the next moment. They would never experience another beyond the pain and horror that was experienced. Together they would die, together be torn apart by the fangs of the monster. Their blood and carcasses melting into one as he ripped each of them into figured no one would ever recognize. His demonic eyes held Anu as she looked at his face. Jaws crushing and tearing at the woman that she loved. She had never come so close to death. They would die.

Anu could see nothing beyond the second that passed. Her form still continued to pull at the woman, her legs still tried to run. But her mind would not leave the notion that they would die. Her eyes closed, slowly as if time had stopped and she began to think again. Her head turned, as if she needed to look anywhere else beyond the male that would be her murderer.

She woke from the adrenaline-fueled dream. The forest blurred, and motion could be felt. She was running. A voice filled the haze around her, hardly heard beyond the pulse in her ears. Her arms where still wrapped around another, but she was running. Blue eyed looked back, and by that time there was nothing left to see but the forest she had just passed. Never letting her pace falter, the Dreamer looked down. The blood soaked the light silver fur of her stomach, the tan of her arms. Her breathing heightened, and her senses awoke at the remembrance of the dream. Their reality. Tears would not stop, and they blurred her vision. Running in a general direction Anu hoped for her lands, dreamed and yearned for safety.

“Don’t stop.” She choked. They couldn’t, not until they reached home.
