your eyes can be your enemies

Mason blinked as he realized that the stranger was not a full-blooded wolf. There was a hint of coyote in his scent and his appearance. The Inferni youth felt himself unconsciously relax just a fraction. His prejudice for his larger canine cousins was growing steadily, but seeing that Silas was a hybrid like himself put him a bit at ease. It settled his irrational thinking and he began to be a little more reasonable in his approach.

"You talk funny," Mason said with a bit of a wrinkled nose, his yellow eyes narrowed as he crept out to get a better look at the vagabond. Mason's thoughts often traveled from his brain to his mouth unbidden. Despite the fact that he was growing and maturing, he was still young and lacked tact.

"This is Inferni," the boy told the male. After getting a closer look, he could see that he was older than him, but not that much older. Mason felt himself grin a bit, his suspicions lessening. Maybe this guy wasn't all bad. "I am Mason the Terrible," he said, using the name that Kaena had coined for him, "defender of the coyote clan! Who are you?" That should leave the stranger suitably impressed.
