turn and face me

They parted with a smile; a nod of obligated geniality, and hidden forked tongues poised to scathe with wicked words. Sabin found the older woman intriguing, and was no less surprised to learn that this was the same Kaena that Eris sent him to find. Of course, he refrained from mentioning anything regarding his chore, and decided to humor the coyote matriarch for the time being and entertain his own thirsty curiosity. The Inferni were a strange bunch, but no less interesting than most coyote families he ran across. Sabin could only assume that the ranks were filled with the family of the old woman, and the current leader, Gabriel. Stationed as pillars to support the age-old pack, and keep it well within the grasp of the Lykoi's. It was a respectable endeavor and he could hardly fault them for it. The whole system was a structurally sound, and he found himself quite comfortable with the subordinate position he was given. His rank gave him plenty of room to maneuver relatively unnoticed by the rest of them, and even more so ignored. Who really gave a flying fuck about some newbie, anyway?

Besides, Vieira was fresh on the wind. He had little inclination to ignore it.

A tight smirk splashed across his lips, drawing an inky line up his pointed features; it reached his eyes, glowing in the fading light as a beautifully shattered mask of happiness. This was joy —elation, but there was no angelic innocence to be found in his acute expression. A darkness opened in him again, and he welcomed it with open arms; it fueled him, and fed his insatiable thirst for the driving movement within him. It stirred deep behind his chest, pooling like a thick, black sap. Sabin wanted to run to her, but after a moment he stopped himself, ears forward towards the caverns where her sent grew thick, and pungent in the cool December air. She was surely there, and Kaena had indeed taken the girl in as her own trophy. Vieira was a prize, however tarnished over the years. But Sabin loved his old toys best, because they were tried, and they were utterly true.

Perhaps tonight he would find that beautiful innocence within her again.

Sabin drew inward on himself, arching his back as his bones twisted, and opening his mouth in a silent cry as his muscles contorted to fit the taller, unnatural form. As always, he was left panting, but the pain was long over. Pushing himself to his feet, the hybrid stretched a bit before turning towards the caverns. He placed his hand on the wall, and followed it down to where the girl's scent pooled like a rich spring, but he did not dare moving closer. Sabin was not a stupid creature, and angering Kaena was far from his to-do list. So instead he waited, breath clouding around his face, and a sickness growing in his mind.
