Kaena knew what toys were—as a child, she had been afforded plenty of opportunity to play with toys, though hers were of the purely canine variety. Sticks and bugs and smooth rocks she could roll with a paw, these things of the natural world had been her playthings. She had seen human toys before, but never actually bothered to play with them. The elder canine's work was more painstaking and far more abstract than what Vieira had made. While the tawny-furred canine's building had an actual shape and purpose Kaena could identify—stairs—her own was simply different pieces tacked on to make nothing. It was also small and unimpressive, unlike the larger thing Vieira had whipped up.

The ashen hybrid's fingers felt clumsy and thick, and she quickly broke down her own piece, not bothering to show it off to the Quintus and instead half-shielding it with her hand, frowning slightly as she snapped the pieces off, annoyed but careful enough to be gentle with the pieces. If this was what made Vieira happy and kept her complacent, the coyote woman could not afford to destroy them. She settled back for a moment, trying to place together a solid concept to build before she actually set to making it, thinking that might help with her design process somewhat. Strangely enough, she had trouble for a moment, and finally gave up, and she began just connecting and disconnecting the same two pieces idly, her eye on this new thing Vieira was building, watching with interest as it took shape.
