Anselm rarely made it to the northern reaches of Inferni's territory, even on his border patrols. Their turf was backed by a mountain and all of the packs lay to their south--even when he did pass through up here, there were rarely any scents or trails of interest. Most of the pack wolves, presumably, had no interest in lurking around the fringes of Inferni just to explore a dirty, rocky beach. This suited him just as well: it was more efficient to simply head due west, swing around the south, patrol the extent of the Dampwoods' border and cut through straight back home to the caves at the end. It wasn't atypical for the hybrid to complete such circuits thrice daily (provided he wasn't on temporary leave in Halifax).
On occasion, however, something would nag at his mind and spur him to be more thorough. He still liked to visit the northern expanse of their land biweekly, even though nothing ever really turned up. Things had been quiet since his return to Inferni, despite the friction with Phoenix Valley he'd been warned of--then again, their subleader had proclaimed their desire for peace and it was fitting. He found pack politics played much more to his liking when demons weren't in charge. Paranoid thoughts aside, there was always the random drifter that happened to hug the coastline once they entered the peninsula and it made sense that these folks turned up here.
Today it was not their border that would grab his attention, but surprisingly something that lie within. A squirrel had caught his gaze, turning his focus from outward to their north-west corner. Only then did he notice the billowing fog, and only then did his nose crinkle as he drank in the faint stench of sulphur. Somewhat perplexed, he altered course for Inferni's newest tourist attraction: the hot springs.
