The thin layer of fresh, crisp snow crunched melodically as the tawny female ran briskly through the territory. This morning, she had chosen to run in her lupe form, something she didn't often do. She needed to get used to running on all fours, though. It seemed like all she did lately was run on two legs.
The air was cool and refreshing as she loped along the border. She loved winter; it was always so calm and quiet. The cool air pressing to her heated body was heavenly.
A piercing howl rose through the still air, hovered for a brief moment before dying out and giving in to the silence once again. Andy froze in her tracks. It sounded close. The fur rose along her shoulders in alarm. The Tenens looked around her, unsurprised but disappointed to find that she was alone. Taking a deep breath, she padded silently along the border, towards the source of the sound.
With her ears alert, the slight female trotted carefully along. In the distance, she could see a solitary figure, sitting just before the boundary scent line. She narrowed her eyes, trying to get a better visual on the visitor. As she drew nearer, a scent reached her nostrils. She nearly stopped dead in her tracks from the shock. It was her old pack scent.. the one she had been with for a brief time before she had found the Valley. Her curiosity piqued, she sped up, wondering who this was, and whether she new them.
The figure began to take a clearer shape, and as it turned out, Andy did know her. It was her old friend, Callisto, from her old pack. Overjoyed, Andy broke into a full on gallop, her muzzle spread wide in a happy grin. She leaped at the other female, happy to have her old friend with her. She couldn’t help but wonder if she had come to join Phoenix Valley...
“Calli! I can’t believe it’s you? How did you find me?” she exclaimed, her tail wagging furiously.
