He didn't remember this place.

The sprawling concrete jungle of Halifax was a vestige of humanity. The buildings so carefully constructed with the finesse of their craftsman, sturdy as stone, but vulnerable to the elements they came from. The false pathways, and the cracked concrete of the streets had long succumbed to nature; grass grew up, and spread out across the gray rivers, and trees that were once manicured and trimmed to perfection had become unrestrained. The flora would eventually take back the city, and the towers would crumble. The bridge beyond (he saw it in the distance upon entering the city) would fall into the river, and be swept out to the ocean until Halifax belonged to the wilds once more.

But Lockheed didn't care much for all that, he merely gave the curious structures casual glances as he ambled (more or less stumbled to anyone watching) down the streets. The whiskey bottle was discarded a few hours ago after he had thoroughly polished off all the contents, and he was hurting for more of the fire water. Emotions were becoming acute feelings in his breast again, and he felt the guilt like an elephant sitting on his chest. There was no better way to describe it. Not that he would actually talk about what was ailing him with anyone.

The loner slowed to a stop as he came to an intersection, and reached out to the nearest light pole for support. He felt the chill of the metal instantly freeze the exposed pads of his hands, but he didn't care. It was a brief moment of feeling other than the emotional turmoil that ransacked his mind. Locke drew a ragged breath and flipped his ears forward, noticing for the first time that the sky was turning pink with the coming sunrise. This moment offered him a chance to realize that he hadn't properly slept in nearly a week; he had watched six sunrises since leaving the bar, each without rest.

The breath he had previously drawn spilled from his lips in a billowing cloud that soon dissipated in the frigid air. God he needed a drink.
