and then they'll say, "good luck."

His retort and the way he spoke it caught her off guard and her laughter stopped almost immediately, like a faucet being shut off. The question struck her odd and she wasn't sure how to answer. He was being completely serious. Those words rang through her head and suddenly she felt herself becoming a little self conscious. Shyly her eyes looked away from him, her fingers twiddling. "I don't know. No one really ever thought I was lovely." It was true. For the majority of her life she had gone completely unnoticed by the opposite sex, at least as far as she knew. Of course her mother had always told her she was pretty, but that was what mothers were supposed to say to their daughters. Before she had come here, no man had ever said she was pretty or taken any kind of interest in her. To learn that these assumption might have been wrong confused her hazy mind.

The reactions Anselm expected weren't that far fetched, and could very well have possibly happened if she had been sober and not up in the air. She probably wouldn't have screamed, or struck him, but chances are she would have made a hasty retreat from the garage and done her best to erase this episode from her mind. Right now she couldn't find the will or the desire to do anything remotely close to that though. Already disarmed, she was easily taken into his arms and she did not fight at all when their lips met and she felt an electric shock run through her. Her eyes fluttered closed, but as soon as it had happened he broke the contact and looked away again.

Stunned, both by the sudden embrace and how it had made her feel, she looked on at him dumbfounded. It was like she was seeing him for the very first time and he looked somehow new and completely different to her. His words seeped into her ears and down to her heart. He thought she was beautiful? He always had? It seemed as though for a few moments her vision had gone white and the next thing she knew he was nuzzling up against her neck. Savina knew it was a gesture of apology, but she didn't want it to be. Without giving herself a chance for second thoughts her hands reached for his face and brought it back up to her own where she kissed him. There was a spark between them and she couldn't ignore it any longer.
