He wasn't hurt by her refusal, but he accepted her kind words with a smile and a small shrug. Kansas loved books for many reasons. There was much knowledge about the ways of the world within the pages of books, knowledge he found comfort in knowing. Perhaps he was weak for seeking answers from a deceased race. The Sadira also spent time reading to escape his thoughts, to dive into unknown worlds that had nothing to do with him. Reading was his way of pulling himself out of his mind, of refraining from obsessing over himself and his own petty woes. Those who didn't read simply found other ways of doing this, he assumed. He understood.
