Let's see how far we've come!

She frowned at her brother's pessimism, almost looking hurt when he insulted their voyage. "Yes you would," she argued. "You'd get right back on that ship the second I asked you to." It was probably true, too. Orin knew her brother would follow her anywhere, though she had not the slightest clue to what extent, or that the fact of the matter was that she was the one infatuated with adventure, and that Niro might not wander into these situations if not for herself. She was convinced, though, that he loved it as much as she did. After all, he did all the dirty work, the heavy lifting... (little did Orin know they had yet to be in a real skirmish) only a true adventurer would be so dedicated! Or… maybe not... maybe he just followed her because she was all he had. And maybe she just insisted he join her, and tricked herself into thinking it was his idea half of the time, because he was all she had. "Besides, aside from all the fish and the rocking, it was wonderful!" What was she saying? The noonday glow and the prospect of being so close to their destination seemed to wipe Orin's memory clean of the fact that she spent half of the voyage so sick and terrified that it had brought her to tears. Those things were all just events in her journal, now.

She twisted back around to peer out at the beach that was so much closer now than ever before. "Oh my god, Niro! Someone's there!" She pointed and then flailed her arm, waving enthusiastically at the man on the shore. "Do you think it could be one of them? Maybe even him?" She thought she heard something but could not tell if the man had called out words or was just vocalizing a greeting, and in her excitement a short, musical howl escaped her throat. Her quick call was mostly lost on the waves, and what wasn't was interrupted by the rumble from the sky above.

She remained poised on the edge of the boat as Niro tirelessly rowed them closer to the beach until she felt the keel bump softly against the shallow ocean floor. At that, she leaped from the dinghy. The unyielding sea had already filled half of their modest little boat with seawater, and she was already soaked from snout to tail despite the cloak she donned that had been intended to keep her dry, so the thought of stepping into the water didn't deter her in the least. Although she wanted to run right up to the stranger, she could not leave her brother to tend to the rowboat alone, so impatient hands snagged the wood of the boat and began to haul it ashore, all the while beaming a grin reminiscent of an over-enthused pup at the stranger.

"Ahoy there, friend!" 'Ahoy' was a word she had learned from the sailors. The moment the boat was too far ashore for the waves to carry away, she let go, snatched her sack from the wet boards, and slung it over her shoulder.

It was certainly obvious that this young woman was clueless about strangers, and seemed to have little inkling that they were often dangerous. In her world - in most of the stories she had read - strangers turned out to be great friends; in some cases, even the most romantic lovers. This was a truth that, surely, her brother loathed, for often Orin would wander right in to less than ideal situations. Still, time after time, Orin regarded every stranger with blind faith, in hopes that they would become the greatest of friends like the heroes in her novels.

She flashed a dazzling smile, one so wide it would make the face of any normal Luperci ache, although it was somewhat close-mouthed. Although she had little wisdom, the girl did have some sense. It wasn't, however, enough to keep her from staring straight into the stranger's face and wondering if he could possibly be one of the men she had read about in the journal. Her heart thrummed so furiously with the thrill that she almost wondered if it was audible even over the fierce waves that crashed in the maddened sea behind them. "Hi, I'm Orin Takekuro, and this is my brother, Niro! Where are we?" Tactless, yes…but maybe endearing to some.
