Although Tayui had been concerned her words were too strong — after all, she wasn't saying the coyotes would not attack unprovoked, since they had in the past — she felt it was necessary to address Asha's misconceptions. They weren't all bad, as Dawali mentioned, and as Yumiko mentioned, Dawali had chosen the correct path. They were a tribe, not a pack; there had to be a difference there. The entire AniWayan way of life was different from most, and they had journeyed to 'Souls to escape the prejudices of their past lives. Certainly, they were the ones who would understand the consequences of mistrust and fear. Fear could lead to hatred and bitterness, and Tayui knew none of them wanted that. Perhaps she would speak with Asha someday to see whether she believed what she said, or if she was simply repeating some other wolf's words. Until then, Tayui would not know.

Tayui saw Ember catch her eye for a moment, nodding slowly. Tayui tilted her head, giving her a slightly thoughtful look, wondering what Ember's glance could mean. Once Ember spoke, Tayui recalled her meeting with a male coyote, and how Ember had begged Tayui to leave her behind. How she had begged Tayui to return her to Storm — just like the last Ember had. Tayui felt the familiar feeling of regret wash over her at the thought of her adoptive daughter, but tried not to wallow in it. She offered Ember a small chuckle in reply, nodding her head slowly. Ember had made quite a name for herself as a warrior here. With Dawali, who had fought off Brennt, and Ember protecting the pack, they had a bit of a fighting chance should that wretched coyote choose to return. As long as they didn't try to attack Inferni or do anything to provoke them, however, Tayui suspected things would be fine. After all, she could only hope.
