Set in one of the forests of the Serena Reserve. 500+

The male had spent some time getting settled into his new home and familiarizing himself with the tribe's territories. It was important to know the lands you lived on as well as you knew yourself. His focus had been fully devoted to that cause and now that he felt he had reached at least some semblance of that goal his mind turned once again to hunting. It had been a good while since Nayati had gone on any substantial or long hunt. During his trek from the old lands to these new ones he had stuck mostly to small, easily available prey. Rabbits mostly, as they were abundant everywhere and he was a good enough archer to shoot one. He hungered now though for the thrill and work of a larger hunt with large prey entailed. Not only could he use the renewal of his abilities, but he wanted to prove his worth to Dawali, Asha, and the rest of the tribe. He knew that they did not doubt his skills, but he felt it important to prove himself nonetheless. He would be a good provider for AniWaya and he needed to show that with a tangible deed.

Leaving Iye behind, he and Onawa set out to look for a nearby group of deer. His coal nose scented the wind, a quiver filled with arrows on his back, hunting knife on his chest, and bow in his hand. It didn't take his nose long to find a faint scent trail and he eagerly followed it, his pale blue eyes scanning the ground and shrubs for any physical sign of the hoofed creatures presence. He had crossed the tribe lands boundaries by the time he found some hoof prints in the cold earth. The tall wolf knelt down, sniffing the ground as his fingers felt as the track. It was perhaps a day old. Looking back up he saw the trail lead into a nearby forest. A satisfied grin spread over his face. There was no doubt that the deer were taking shelter beneath the trees and that they would still be there. Slowly he approached the line of pines, peering inside as his nose constantly worked to find the location of his quarry. They were a good ways in it seemed.

The ground was littered with snow and pine needles and so he would need to move carefully to avoid detection. Slipping the bow over his head the sinew rested across his chest and the wood across his back. Nayati crouched down and began to move into the forest quietly. Always aware of his footing and the ground beneath him the luperci silently stalked after the herd. Onawa stalked with him, silent as a ghost, though she was a good ways apart from him. She would not always help him in the actual effort to bring prey down, but she was always with him and he had a feeling she enjoyed it as much as he did. The AniWayan had learned much from her in the ways of being a silent and deadly hunter as she was the image of perfection for that art.
