false sense of security

It had been nearly a month since Haku had granted the girl reacceptance into Dahlia de Mai. She'd spent most of her time with her older sister in the treehouse her brother-in-law had built when he'd lived in the packland. Through Kol, Bris had come to know by appearance and general personality the veteran members of Dahlia, but even the older Stormbringer had admitted that the newer members had swarmed the packland far too quickly for her to properly meet. The rest of the white girl's time had been spent getting to know the geography of her chosen home, along with the lay of all the neutral lands throughout the general region known as Souls. She'd even begun taking lessons in the bow and arrow from a strange tribal wolf she'd met a couple of weeks back. Despite the ominous cloud of war hanging over the heads of all Dahlians, Bris was feeling quite content with her decision to make a home there.

Unfortunately, in all the time she'd spent exploring and practicing and talking with Kol, Bris realized that she still hadn't come to know a single other member of her pack aside from Haku and his black subordinate Alex, and she'd only met her for a few brief moments at the border upon her entry. There were currently three individuals the young Stormbringer desired most to get to know. One of them was the strange black lady whom Kol had mentioned seeing at the last pack gathering before Bris' acceptance. She'd seemed to have some standing with Haku, and there was something hauntingly familiar about her. Kol had yet to meet the strange woman herself to find the root of her familiarity, so Bris was taking it upon herself to seek her out. Her older sister had enough to worry about, first and foremost as far as Bris was concerned was visiting Alexey and patching up whatever misunderstanding they'd had. Of course, Kol still had yet to do so, which made her younger sister wonder exactly where she'd been sneaking off to lately.

Bris wasn't really sure what her destination was today, she was really just hoping she'd run into the woman she sought by some chance of fate. The day was pleasant enough for an aimless constitutional regardless; the morning sun hung brightly in the cloudless sky, its bright rays bouncing off what little unmelted snow remained on the ground. The weather had been more rain than snow lately, and Bris found herself missing the fluffy blanket that made everything sparkle so beautifully. The young girl's four paws padded softly against the moistened earth, turning them from a pristine alabaster to a muddled and muddy brown, but Bris didn't mind. This was her first winter, but she was already quite sure it had become her favorite season. It was the first time she'd ever felt she truly fit in.
