Poor Caillen- the sweet, bashful boy was being given the tongue-lashing of his short career, and by a whelp certainly smaller than he. When Sylvie summoned such authority as this child did, he never shrunk back in confusion and terror as he did now, unsure of how to repute versus such a fiery hybrid as Amaranth. She was obviously a hybrid, at that- red and white like a husky, but built as if mixed between the two, despite her short stature at this age.

Sylvie frowned thoughtfully as she decided on a grand course of action to divert Amaranth's attention from Caillen... but it seemed, her earlier comment, meant to be an apology for her childhood crush's actions, had quite the opposite effect. Instead of the husky girl taking it in stride and calming, she seemed to become ever more agitated- but this time, with Sylvie as the victim to her childish wrath. What is going on...?

Eyes widened in surprise as the strangely wise collie plotted a course of response. Not a dog? But she so obviously was! Even if it turned out the young female was a hybrid, she certainly did not show it physically. She was built almost just as Sylvie was, like that of a pure-bred dog, and her crimson and cream colors only served to emphasize that fact. Frown deepened upon young fairy maw as the lilac lovely came upon a hopefully not... degrading response to argue her side of the case. Just about anything could set her off... With this in mind, Sylvie chose her words carefully.

"I hate to say it, but you look more like a dog, like me, than a wolf, like him. Perhaps it will be more obvious as you grow...?"

In spite of Sylvie's interjections, Amaranth still seemed particularly miffed with Caillen. Her pride and anger, still sparking in the air, even caused the much larger brute to try and hide his goofy form behind slender, agile Sylvie. Feeling a tad protective of the slate and ivory male, Sylvie did her best to play his shield in the matter. As Caillen was addressed for his name in response to hers, chocolate ears flicked backwards, and then down a notch as he stumbled over every letter of his sentence.

Sighing quietly, Sylvie wished that Caillen could control his stutter when it came to tight situations... much like when he spun his wonderful stories upon threads of satin and moon-spun furs, Caillen would be better off if his stutter abandoned him when things got difficult. As soft sapphire gaze rose pleadingly to Sylvie, the sentence almost completely gone from his stage-frightened tongue, soft felt ears rose to a soft, barely audible whine.

Unable to ignore the plucked heartstrings this gesture caused, she glanced at her comrade, orchid petal eyes glinting. Then, soft-coated collie-shea offered him a reassuring smile, hoping that she might give him a little comfort. Sadly, it was obvious in his stutter that the poor young hybrid was at a loss for words, uselessly trying to piece together an introductory sentence. Amaranth commented on his stutter somewhat nicely in comparison to what she had been saying only moments earlier. Violet gems trailed over the two as whirling thoughts crossed over an unspoken whim. Sylvie, it seemed, rather liked Caillen's stutter, though it plagued him with many a teasing comment... she found it cute.

"His name is Caillen... I'm sorry... he doesn't do very well under pressure." Perhaps she should take him home for now, to rescue the poor male from his speech demon? Suddenly, Sylvie was struck with an idea. Why not try to get him to tell a story? His stutter ran for cover whenever he told stories, and he acted much more like the hybrid fellow he was supposed to be.

"He is a wonderful storyteller, though. Perhaps you would like to hear him tell a tale?" Smiling brightly, she wondered which story Caillen would reenact- the dragon storming the castle, the young shea and the beast, the tales of Excalibur and the Hybrid? Suddenly, she was feeling rather excited.

Talk. Think. Walk.
