There were three bodies on the borders.

Both were so mutilated that Gabriel barely recognized them as coyotes. They had been his members, of course, but they were now just two piles of shredded flesh and discarded organs, slaughtered and thrown about to prove a point. This, and the fact they had been decapitated, was going too far. The Aquila stared at these things which had once been living, conscious souls, and felt nothing. He had disconnected himself from his subordinates early on, knowing that those who were unworthy would suffer and fall. As a soldier, as a once-called prophet, he had known this would come.

While he did not feel for the loss, he felt anger. It was a constant presence in his life, as constant as God and sin. What had been dumped at his borders was a challenge, a mockery. Someone had called him out, demanded his presence. Gabriel believed that the time for games, for playing it safe and keeping his coyotes cooped up behind the borders was over. Anselm had been wary to attack Dahlia and the faces of so many that had been at the meeting were uncertain, wary. As a soldier first and foremost, Gabriel could not fathom wanting to stand by idly. He was a war hawk, not a peace dove, and now had proof that whether or not Inferni was ready Haku would come for them.

Gabriel did not call for aid before he began to dig. His paws worked well in the softening ground, but the graves would be shallow at best. Deep enough to hide the taint of Dahlia’s wrath, deep enough to give those poor souls a better resting place then the harsh, unforgiving land around them. The smell of wet earth filled his nose, blocking out the horrible stench from the three once-coyotes.
