Where art thou, brother?

for the Silas :o

It had felt like it had been so long since the Russo last saw his brother. He saw his father and sister almost daily, but the distance between the two brothers was less easy to traverse daily without hesitation. Anatoliy would take the trek daily, but it seemed as though it was best to wait out a few days, and apparently weeks, before seeking out Silas. And, truth be told, the Russo had had enough and wanted to see the other man and the place that was his home. Yes, Anatoliy was going to check up on Silas and to see how he was doing in Inferni. There was plenty left to talk about with his brother and he figured that speaking with Silas without Rurik or Liliya there would open him up more. Some things one did not say in front of a parent and a female sibling, and Anatoliy wanted to know what else lay behind his brother's blue eyes. Plus, he was curious. What kind of place was Inferni?

After a word or two with Rurik about where he needed to go, the younger Russo set off, trying to get there before it began to pour again. It had been raining almost every day lately and Anatoliy was glad to take this chance to travel with only mud to contend with instead of mud and chilly rain. But the walk did not stay pleasant, as it started to drizzle halfway to the borders of Inferni. There were no big enough leaves yet that the brunette could take to cover himself with like he had heard others do during the summer days when rain came. So, staying to whatever tree cover he could, he maintained a semi-dry state, with only his upper body dripping.

The border, skulls and all, was what Anatoliy eventually came to. He sighed at it, wondering if he was supposed to call out for his brother like his instincts told him, or if he could simply meander into the lands. Taking a few tentative steps past the border, the Russo paused. Maybe it would be safer to wait here and call. So he did, managed a, hopefully, loud enough cry for Silas to hear, wherever he was. Or maybe a friend to hear to help direct him to where he needed to go.

He just couldn’t escape the rain. The past few days had been littered with nothing but a few teasing rays of sunshine and lots of drizzle. D’Neville had become his haven more than usual, and it was there in the mansion that Silas had been situated when he heard a call sound for him. Both blacked ears turned to catch the noise and a sly grin rose to his features. It would be Anatoliy, of course. Although the visit was unexpected, it was a wonderful surprise.

He raced to meet his brother along the borders, not caring that the rain would soak through his black and tan fur in efforts to chill him to the bone. Anatoliy would be waiting and Silas didn’t want to leave his brother standing in the rain any longer than he had to. When the familiar scent caught his nose, Silas increased his jog to a sprint, finding the brunette figure not far past where the piked skulls marked Inferni’s territory. "Tol!" It was easy to see that Silas was ecstatic about the visit – he came up to his brother and clapped both arms around him in a friendly hug. "Come, walk with me!" Though he pulled away from the embrace, he left one hand on his brother’s shoulder as if to beckon him deeper in Inferni’s lands.

"I’m glad you came by. Is everything alright? I figured we could walk, and then talk. You know… get out of this rain and all." As he said this the boy could easily see the water beginning to drip from the frame of black hair that tumbled into his face. The blue bandana tied around his forehead hidden in the disheveled mess of onyx hair was equally as saturated. "The mansion isn’t too far and then we’ll be inside and can dry off."

I'll follow your suit :|

Silas did not let his brother stand to soak for very long. For that the Russo was thankful, since he was unsure of how to act around anyone who would show up from the clan. So old and still such an idiot at these kinds of greetings. After a brief hug and a few pats on the back, Silas began to guide his brother toward whatever place it was that was called home around here. It had better be warm or else the Russo would demand his brother pick suitable living conditions. "You came so fast. I was worried I would have to meet that Gabriel you mentioned so long ago." Toliy laughed from his relief, eagerly returning the thumps on the back.

"Good idea, Silas. Best idea I have heard all day, even," he said, chuckling as he followed his brother deeper into Inferni territory. Even in the company of a member of the clan, the Russo still felt a little bit uneasy, as though he were trespassing. Maybe he would feel safer indoors. Even now as the rain trickled on and off, soaking the two brothers, Anatoliy looked forward to only the warmth of indoors and whatever comfortable blankets could be provided. "I will be happy if you provide something warm too. Not picky if its hot food or drinks." Toliy was hinting, very obviously, but he truthfully would have been happy even if there was nothing edible waiting.

"Silas, brother, I know you've been up to more than just taking care of this clan for that war," he said slyly, glancing sidelong at the Inferni coyote. "So, is there a girl you don't want father to know about? Is she pretty?" The smile on his face was crooked, though his eyes glittered with interest. There was probably more, but Anatoliy felt this was a topic where he could easily tease Silas.

"Ahh, Gabriel is probably busy with other stuff. Even if you did meet him, I’m sure he would have directed you to me. Visitors are welcome, you know. Even if wolves aren’t." His voice was playful enough. He was just glad to see his brother by his side again. It had been some time since he had seen Anatoliy and it was nice to have to opportunity to talk to him without either father or sister at their side.

He grinned at his brother’s words, still finding Anatoliy’s cheek amusing. "Of course, Tol. The mansion has plenty to keep us warm and full, so we’ll be able to talk until the rain stops." The two were already on their way and both seemed to be walking a little faster than their usual casual pace would bring them. The mansion wasn’t too far off though, so the boys would make in there in just a few more minutes time. Silas, much like he supposed his brother felt, couldn’t wait to get inside.

Anatoliy could read Silas so well. Was it because Silas was predictable or just easily read? Or was it their bond of brotherhood that gave Tol a closer insight as to how the young Russian was feeling? Silas couldn’t be sure. "Gorgeous," he simply responded, icy eyes sparkling with the thought of her. "Oh Tol, she lives in the mansion too. Maybe you’ll get a glimpse. She’s absolutely beautiful." The mansion came into view and Silas grinned with satisfaction. He’d have to fetch some blankets for them both, and maybe they’d even be able to get a fire started in the fireplace. All of this would be in the works for the making of a truly wonderful day with his brother. Hell, maybe he’d even convince Anatoliy to stop by more often. Silas couldn’t doubt that he would absolutely love that.

Anatoliy gave his brother a huge, toothy grin. He was fully amused by his brother's reaction; he had, in all honesty, been guessing. And he hit it straight on the nose. So, Silas had a girl he wanted. That meant that his big brother was growing up. Aw, that was such a tender thought that the Russo put his hand to his chest and actually sounded out his touched emotion. "Brother, you are in love with a girl. You are growing up," he cooed, giving a false sniffle and running a finger under his eye to catch the false tears. Toliy put a large hand on his brother's shoulder, prepared to give his brother a mocking speech on being a gentleman.

"Brother, you had better behave yourself around her. I don't want to hear that you've had your hands where they ought not be." Anatoliy gave the Agata male a hard stare, gripping his shoulder a bit harder. "Don't smirch our name. We are gentleman, Silas. Remember that, yeah?" Then, letting his hand fall back to his side, the Russo let the hard look fade to be replaced by his snickering grin. "Haha, brother likes a giiiiirl. Liliya will have a field day. Imagine what she'll do. She will prance for days." Anatoliy pulled a face, knowing such a thing would annoy him since the girl would not stop for a while. Then when he himself had a girl, she would probably dance for days more. But at least the day she finds herself a man, Anatoliy would torture her in other ways. He had to think of them, but that was beside the point. "I promise not to embarrass you in front of her. Maybe."

Thankfully they arrived in the mansion, and they were out of the slight downpour. Anatoliy was glad for it, but he was mostly grinning over his brother's crush. "So, who is she? What's she like? I want to know why you don't want Dad to know, too." Probably to avoid the embarrassment, but what did he know? Toliy had yet to bring home a girl for Rurik to meet.

Of course he could tell that Anatoliy’s words were laced with playful sarcasm, and Silas shot him another disapproving, yet amused smirk. In love? Was that was it really was? Silas knew that Halo was absolutely gorgeous and that her presence brought on all sorts of strange feelings within him, but he wasn’t sure if that was what love was. He had, obviously, experienced love for his family members, but love in this way was completely new to him. He wasn’t sure quite what to think. "You think so?" He commented softly, almost to himself more than to Anatoliy.

"Oh, Tol, come off it," Silas complained, giving his brother a slight shove as he seemed to playfully lecture him about treating Halo right. "It’s not like she’s my mate or something. Just… an interest." But he himself couldn’t help but smile at those words. And then, the boy stopped dead in his tracks, directing a hard stare at Anatoliy. "Oh god, not Liliya. Tol, don’t say a word to her! I don’t want to have to hear her go on about it." He sighed, shaking his head slightly (which sent water flying from his saturated hair) before continuing their walk to the mansion. The building had seemed to have snuck up on the two, and the young Praeses hadn’t realized they were so close. "Pleaseeee, don’t. I would have to kill you then," a mischievous, yet playful look shot in his brother’s direction.

And then, they stepped onto the covered porch and the rain was avoided for now. "Home, sweet, home," Silas cooed, as he opened the front doors and steered his brother inside. They came into the front lobby and Anatoliy instantly started firing off questions again about Halo. Though of course he wanted to talk, Silas merely frowned in return. "Ahh, before we talk, let’s move into another room." Halo, after all, lived in the mansion too, and he wouldn’t want her to overhear any of the Russo’s conversation. Silas escorted his brother down the center wing hallway, turning to the right and leading them into the sitting room that was situated just below where Silas’ room was upstairs. "Don’t want anyone to, you know, hear our conversation," he told Tol, shutting the door behind them.

From a trunk situated against the back of the room, Silas pulled out some quilts. He tossed one toward Tol, "You can dry off and keep warm." Once he retrieved one for himself, Silas closed the trunk with a dismissing swipe of a paw and draped his quilt over the back of one of the intact chairs. "Let me grab us something to eat and I’ll be right back." Silas went out into the hallway and skirted over towards the kitchen where he knew various meats were stored. Though he didn’t want to waste time cooking up the meals like Cassius had so long ago when Silas had first moved in, he took two slabs of caribou meat and plunked them down onto two china plates. Balancing them both with one arm, Silas made his way back to the sitting room where Anatoliy sat waiting, hopefully hungry and beginning to dry off from the damp weather outside. "Here, brother – something to hold you over." He handed him one of the plates, before taking a seat in one of the chairs. He pulled the quilt over him, before setting the meal on his lap. Before anything, he removed his bandana and rung the water from it, not bothering to care that the water was leaking onto the floor, before retying it back into its usual spot amongst his dark locks.

"Now to answer your question, her name is Halo," he finally divulged to his brother, smile reforming amongst his features. "There’s just something about her. I mean, she’s drop dead gorgeous, but then there’s the air about her… she just has this strength. Whenever I’m around her I find myself trying to impress her. And it’s not that I don’t want dad to know, it’s just… I don’t want to bother everyone with something that’s just… well, not definite. I don’t know what she thinks of me." And just like what often happened when Halo was around, Silas could feel the warmth of embarrassment spread behind the fur along his cheeks.

All his teasing elicit the response he wanted from Silas, who seemed worried by the thought of Liliya finding out. He could not blame him, since Liliya really would make life like a living nightmare. If the Russo had it his way, he would find himself a mate and then tell Liliya about it. Of course, the girl would probably spasm all over him for hiding something like that. At least Silas had no secreted become mates with Halo, because really, the reaction was hard to predict. Anatoliy wondered what their father would say to these kinds of things. Would he be happy that they found someone or would he feel sad he was kind of losing his children to a woman? "I better listen then." The Russo doubted that Silas would do much to him. He ought to be more worried Rurik would tell embarrassing stories.

Raising an eyebrow at his brother, Anatoliy gave him a skeptical look. Who else in this pack would understand them? They spoke Russian and were not conversing in English at all. Surely Halo was not fluent in their native tongue. So that only meant that Silas was hoping that the girl would not suddenly appear and catch them in the middle of the talk about her. She would understand her own name, at least. Oh, this was cute. The Russo wanted to press this matter, but they had already moved to a private room. Thankfully, Silas also had quilts on hand. "Ah, thank you, Silas." Anatoliy took the one offered him and unfolded it, draping it over his head and shoulders and giving the fur there a light rub to soak up the water. He noticed, out of the corner of his eye, how his pony tail just looked terrible. Pulling the hair tie out, he ran nails through it, straightening it out. With a few quick movements, the dark brown hair was twisted into a braid, which he tied. His brother then went off for food, leaving the brunette alone to dry off.

Anatoliy sat down just as he heard footsteps approaching. He still felt kind of huge, but like that was an uncommon feeling. Silas handed him a plate with raw steak as he slid the blanket down around his shoulders, hair spiky and unruly. Toliy focused on the food on his plate and smiled. Usually the Russo had cooked food, so raw was a nice change of pace. "Just one? It's like a snack, brother," he joked, taking a bite of the flesh and savoring the taste difference from cooked meat. Wiping whatever blood may have dripped down his chin, the Russo listened to Silas.

"Oh man, brother. You most definitely got it bad." Anatoliy whistled, watching the expression on Silas's face. It seemed as though his brother was truly infatuated with this woman. He wanted to meet her. "I can meet her, and find out nonchalant like for you. If I pretend I haven't found you yet, maybe she'll tell me more than if she knew I knew where you were." But, somehow, the Russo doubted the Inferni would want his help like that. Besides, Anatoliy was not the best at those kind of things. He was not sneaky; he was more to the point and honest. Lying was not his forte.

So sorry for the wait! +3

Anatoliy’s words of course elicited a frown from Silas, though only playful. In fact, Silas really enjoyed having his brother around, playful mockery and all. In the months that Silas had been in Nova Scotia with merely sister and father, he had found himself truly missing the brotherly bond he had with Tol, having to explore and create mischief on his own. Now that Tol was here, however, Silas was excited about all of the prospects. The war with Dahlia de Mai was over now, so it was easier for the Infernian to move throughout territories without so much worry on his shoulders. This meant more time to interact with Anatoliy, thus making more time for potential mischief.

"I forgot you eat like a bear," Silas replied jokingly, bringing his own steak of caribou meat to his muzzle. The raw flavor was savory and the boy licked at his lips to wipe up the blood that dripped there. "Besides, the Aquila would have my hide if he knew I was feeding the enemy." A sly grin appeared and Silas couldn’t help but chuckle playfully, obviously just messing around with his brother. Once he had chewed away at half of the meat, Silas wiped his muzzle on the back of one palm before continuing talk of Halo.

"Ehh, I don’t know about that, Tol. I don’t want to come across as… oh, I don’t know. Childish, I guess. I mean… I just need to get the courage up to talk to her some more and see what she’s feeling. It’s just… hard." He took another bite of his snack, before continuing. "Oh, but wait ‘til you see her. She’s gorgeous." In fact, a small part of Silas wanted Anatoliy to be jealous of his find, even though Halo was a free spirit and was in no way attached to Silas. Still, Silas had sought her out first, thus placing an invisible claim on seeking her affections. "What about you?" Silas pressed, finishing up the last bit of his caribou steak. "Seen anything you like yet?" Anatoliy had joined the ranks of Cour des Miracles with both father and sister and there were bound to be a few attractive females wandering around there.

me too Dx

Anatoliy laughed, wondering if being in another pack would automatically make him an enemy of the coyote clan. "Some of us just happen to have grown since we were little. It's not my fault you didn't grow into a bear like the rest of the family." Of course Silas was just as big as the rest of them, but if his brother wanted to tease, the Russo was going to comply. He easily downed the rest of the steak, careful to keep the blood from dripping down his chin. Plate clear, he set it down and out of the way of his feet, in case his hand motions got overzealous. "So, what, she's an older woman?" He raised his eyebrow at him, ring pulling at the skin. "Why would you worry about sounding childish if she were your age? Unless you're trying to impress her." Anatoliy smirked at Silas, wondering just how bad he had it.

He gave a heavy sigh, leaning back and resting his face in the palm of his hand with his elbow on the edge of the back of the chair. "Man, Silas, you always seem to get lucky. All I've had is family. None of the girls back home are nearly as pretty as those I've glimpsed here. It's not like the buffet the port cities are, but they're more exotic here." One or two he had more than glimpsed, but he doubted that his brother cared. Silas seemed to want to brag a little, and Anatoliy wanted to let the guy vent and blow up his ego a bit. That's what brothers were for. "You better show me, or else you're just all talk, brother." Undoubtedly, he would meet her.

So, who had the Russo met? That he liked. He paused, a little surprised by the question and then flustered by trying to figure out what he thought. Well, he had met one girl, but she was just another girl. Most likely. "Well, not... really?" Anatoliy fiddled with the quilt still about his shoulders, eying Silas. "I did meet one, but I don't really know what to think of her yet. She's a fighter, that's what I know. I'm not a fighter, but she's still nice. I promised to spar with her later, or wrestle, or whatever. I think she's a little bit insane, too." He laughed, remember how she told him of her plans for her home. "She wants to build her own house."
