For Liliana~ wc:386

Dusk threatened to spill orange light over the horizon, the colors subdued by the swath of grey clouds that still covered most of the sky. The air was cool and humid, carrying with it the scent of rain that the lands had been experiencing the past few days. The clouds were finally beginning to dissipate, though, and while the lands were still damp with the gifts from the heavens, the air was clear and perfect for travel. And travel Ehno did. It wasn’t an intentional journey, but as he was wrapping up a quick patrol of Crimson Dreams' borders, he felt the need to continue forward. Reluctant to return right home right away, he let his legs continue at their casual pace and set forth into an impromptu journey.

He found himself drifting west of his pack lands, a direction seldom ventured by the Marino. The eastern lands of Nova Scotia usually had his attention when he wasn’t home in Crimson Dreams. The large city of Halifax and his children’s home in Phoenix Valley called to him often, and he had travelled between there and the land of Dreamers so frequently within recent months that he knew the path he took almost like the back of his hand. So the rolling plains to the west, with their spotted regions of forest here and there, were a fresh and welcome sight to him.

The Dreamer found himself within one of the lightly forested areas, his leisurely pace allowing him to drift quietly along. As the trees began to thin out more and more around him, and he neared another area of grassy plains, he spotted a peculiar sight stretching along the horizon. He quickened his pace just a tad, curiosity moving him forward now. When he finally reached it, he discovered it to be a fence of sorts, though one vastly different than the quaint white picket fence that surrounded Haven Manor back home. This fence was constructed of wooden poles placed in the ground every couple of yards with a few rows of gleaming metal wire binding them together. Ehno peered closely at one of the wires, noting the vicious look it had with various bits of sharp wire protruding along its length. Barbed wire, meant to keep some things in, and some things out. Interesting.

She was doing what she did best, wandering aimlessly. She was actually looking for some wild plants, she wanted to see what grew around here hopefully not finding something poisonous. Her father taught her about spices mostly, but she wanted to learn more about herds to use for remedies in horses, and other animals they tended to. She wasn’t familiar with a whole lot of plants. Mostly knew about the spices her father had picked for supper, and the few poisonous plants about the area. This wasn’t her most particular enjoyment, far from it, she’d rather be riding or something, but wandering was good too, even if it meant she’d have to catalog some things like plants that grew around the area. She didn’t notice how far she’d gone and soon hit a fence, barbed wired and everything. Curious she tried to see what was beyond it, but she could only see the same old trees and brush, sniffing it, she didn’t seem to smell anything different either. This curious contraption confused and excited her, and she started following it, she even noticed there were some nice plants that grew along the posts of the strange fence. She made a note of it in the back of her head, and kept forward. She didn’t know how far she’d gotten around the thing before something caught her eye. She stopped to see another wolf looking curiously at the fence, she didn’t’ know what to do, she wasn’t exactly in AniWayan lands but she didn’t know if she was in someones, particularly his, lands while roaming. She started to back away, when something in the back of her head slapped her. She really was too curious, it sometimes made her thing she was a cat rather than a wolf at times. Instead she stepped forward very loudly but only a little, not enough to get too close to him.

Umm… Hi…

She said shyly, she’d let him talk right now, she was too shy to really say much else, but she couldn’t even move from the spot, he looked older than her, but not by too much, he was definitely an adult, where as she never quite felt like an adult. The way his fur came togethers the colors on his fur were rather interesting, but she didn’t look at him too long it made her blush, she learned frm her parents that staring was rather… rude. She didn’t want to seem rude especially if she was trespassing.

The barbed wire fence held a particular intrigue for Ehno. Old human creations always had a way of catching his attention, though usually his curiosity for their relics was sated with a trip down to Halifax or a romp through the musty underground path hidden underneath Haven Manor. Finding something like this, isolated out in the open wilderness, was much rarer, and thus even more interesting. The old human-made buildings and objects had a tendency to be clumped together in groups like the cities and villages dotted along the Nova Scotia countryside, and it wasn’t often that something of theirs would be out alone amongst the rest of nature. As he examined the fence, he began to wonder just what they could have possibly needed it for, and whether the fence’s presence was an indication that more little objects of the human species’ legacy were around here somewhere.

By the time the girl stumbled upon him, the Marino had knelt down beside the fence to get a closer look at it. He was poking idly at one of the spurs on the wire, trying to judge just how sharp it is without actually hurting himself. Past all the curiosity, the thought of it amused him. But the sound of the stranger’s footsteps and shyly offered greeting abruptly tore his thoughts from his curiosity. His ears perked up and quickly turned to face the approaching stranger. She had a youthful appearance and a pelt of mixed colours that gave her a very interesting look. She didn’t have an entirely wolfish appearance, and Ehno found himself wondering what sort of heritage she came from. The Dreamer smiled brightly at her, waving a hand in an idle greeting. “Hello there,” he greeted, words painted with his usual Italian lilt. “This is some crazy fence, eh? Gotta wonder how the humans came up with it.” He grinned and motioned vaguely to the fence as he commented on it. Perhaps she knew some more about it than he did.

When he looked her way she could see his face more and saw he was quite handsome, she felt her face go hot at this thought, and he seemed so very sure of himself, what more was he seemed rather nice, he just struck up a conversation as though there wasn’t a care in the world who’s pack lands this was, and who’s pack she was from. Which made her feel better, although her guard stayed up at all times. She had never fought anyone and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to or not, at his words she wasn’t sure how to answer him. Looking at the contraption before her, she knew it was made by humans there was no doubt about it, but what it was for, she had no idea.

They were strange alright. Sometimes I think they put things like this just to make us ask questions.

She said, feeling slightly more confident, but she wasn’t sure what to say, human contraptions weren’t her thing, she could ask someone from the tribe when she got back, but she doubted she would,

Um, I’m Liliana,

She felt so awkward, why did she feel like this around company all the time? Maybe it was because she grew up alone with her folks that kept her from socializing even though her mother and father brought them to packs all around Canada, for her mother’s job. Well she knew if he proved to be nice that she might lighten up eventually, but she was still rather scared.

I really do hope I’m not trespassing.
She blurted out her worry even though she wanted to keep it to herself, she didn’t know much about borderlands other than they tended to stay in the unclaimed areas where the packs weren’t really big enough to fill in the spaces. They would be soon she was sure of it. But that was her unconscious thought, and she wasn’t going to share that out loud! She kept her thoughts shut out keeping the present to her, the past was the past, and the future would come soon enough, what mattered was now, and that was her fear that she would be punished because she certainly had AniWaya’s smell all over her.

When the girl commented on the strangeness of humanity, he nodded and made a little hmm sound of agreement. Ehno didn’t know all that much about them either, and what he did know was gleamed from his lengthy stay in Rome, his frequent trips to Halifax, and what he discovered in the few books he’d managed to read. It was obvious that they’d had quite the empire throughout the planet, but the Marino’s interest in them was solely focused on the various artifacts they’d left behind. Simply taking a look through all the buildings and objects scattered about gave him some insight to their lives, though his interest never stretched farther than that.

The stranger introduced herself as Liliana, prompting the Italian to finally stand from his crouched position. The usual friendly smile clung to his lips as he watched the doggish girl and began to introduce himself in turn. “Good to meet you, Liliana. I’m Ehno.” It wasn’t often that Ehno had a chance to meet one of his westerly neighbors, and he was pleased to find that the encounter was thus far rather pleasant. Being a perpetual social butterfly, the Dreamer was always eager to meet new people.

Liliana was quick to mention her concern of trespassing, and it was then that Ehno really began to notice a bit of nervousness within the girl. He shook his head and kept the radiant smile in place, hoping to reassure her. Certainly not everyone could be as comfortable around strangers as he was. “Nope, these are all unclaimed lands, as far as I know. Right between my pack, Crimson Dreams,” he motioned toward the way he came, “and AniWaya. Which, I’m guessing, is your home.” While the Marino hadn’t had the opportunity to meet to many of the tribe’s members, he was familiar enough with it’s particular scent.

Ehno seemed rather nice, and he has a very calm caring smile which did cool her wits off a bit and she did relax, especially since he said she wasn’t really trespassing on anyone’s territory and neither was he. She wouldn’t have to do anything or be protective of her pack and neither did he, no obligations, somehow she felt she should still be a wanderer, but the thought of not having anyone there for her was something that made her shudder, so she would be there for her own pack. She gave a scared smile.

It is a pleasure to meet you then, and yes my pack is Aniwaya, I actually just joined them truth be told. They have been pretty nice so far.

She said feeling sort of better, and loosening herself up a little. She was glad that he was nice, his last encounter wasn’t one she cared too much about. She wasn’t going to mention that day either, it was nice just to have a simple conversation. She looked out past the barbed fence to where something might be penned in.

Do you suppose there is something trapped behind these fences?

She asked curiously, she’d heard her mother tell of a time when her own mother had helped rescue other wolves who’d been caught in cages, as well as other animals, many of them felines, others were herbivores. She’d explained about how the animals needed to grow in numbers rather than just be caged and eaten. They needed the chance to live outside of the walls and mate, and reproduce. She always loved that tale, but that’s all she thought it was… was a tale… until she found herself looking in at this fence. Maybe there were other wolves behind it, scared and not eating what they needed because their own food wouldn’t move near the fences?

wc:313 Sorry for the delay again. :< Should be able to respond faster now!

His new acquaintance confirmed that she lived in AniWaya, revealing that she was a new arrival to their ranks. Briefly he wondered if she was from this region, or if she had traveled far to arrive at AniWaya’s borders. Ehno was glad to know that they were treating her nicely so far. Hopefully her adjustment to her new home would continue to be a pleasant one. It didn’t come as much of a surprise, as from what he had heard, those in the western pack were a kind and peaceful bunch. “Ah, glad to hear that. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it there. From what I hear, everyone there is quite pleasant.” He was aware that his niece was apparently taking lessons in medicine from one of the AniWayan members, though he had never met the wolf himself, nor did he know much about him beside that. Both packs were rather personable and peaceful, and it seemed to have brought them into a sort of unspoken alliance.

The young woman brought up the possibility of something being confined behind the sinister-looking fences. The same thought had crossed his mind earlier, though he focused more on it now. It wouldn’t surprise him to find that the barbed wire fence was keeping something penned in after all this time. What that something could possibly be left him with quite an intriguing mystery. “There certainly could be,” he said, looking out over the fence. An idea sprang to mind and he turned his gaze back to Liliana, one of his playful smirks decorating his features. “If you’re up for a little adventure, we can take a look for ourselves,” he suggested, accented words cheery. If this fence was still serving its age-old purpose, it would indeed be interesting to see what lay behind it. Curiosity began buzzing about in his mind, ever fueling his desire to explore.

OOC: I sory such a short post  I will make a better one on my next go!

Liliana was pleased to hear he seemed satisfied with her answer, which was good because she doubted she would be leaving the pack’s ranks for quite some time. She smiled at him when he mentioned an adventure, and she could see the delight in his eyes, she nodded, though looking at the fence she wondered how they would get through she tilted her head a little, she wasn’t a very well learned wolf so she seemed rather well unlearned, and not always had the brightest of minds

How will we get through?
She asked looking up at her now new friend. She knew he was a friend from his actions, and an adventure you can’t go on with just anyone. She hoped she didn’t sound stupid after asking the question, it would probably be so obvious that she should just keep her trap shut, but she waited for that moment until she was proven to be a total idiot.

He was pleased to find that his new acquaintance was indeed up for a little impromptu adventure. Exploration was one of his favorite ways to pass the time, and what better way to do it but with someone by his side? A new place to explore and a new friend to get to know—it seemed like the perfect combination for an outgoing adventurer such as Ehno. Certainly he had set out that day with an adventure such as this in mind, but he hadn’t expected to run into a kind new soul who would join him on his foolish feats of exploration.

The AniWayan questioned how they would get past the sinister fence, and Ehno tilted his head to the side slightly as he regarded it. “That’s a good question,” he said, studying the fence before them for any weakness in its structure. The fence wasn’t terribly high, but it would take a bit of a jump to make it over as it was. A bit of an idea came to mind and the Dreamer immediately went to the nearest of the periodically placed wooden poles and shook it a bit, testing to see how loose it might be. This one seemed reluctant to budge, holding stubbornly to its place in the ground. He moved to the next one a few feet away and gave it the same good shake. The Marino was pleased to find that his one gave way more freely, probably from being knocked about a few too many times.

He pushed the pole forward as far as it would lean back, and it worked to pull some of the wire lower along with it. It created a bit of a dip in the fence that would be much easier to step over. Ehno looked back toward Liliana and waved her over with his free hand. “This should do it. You can step over the fence here while I hold it down, and I’ll hop on over after you.”

She watched her new friend as he sized up the fence for a few minutes then started walking towards the posts, why the posts? Weren’t they really sturdy? Her question was answered on his first attempt, but he tried a second one, this time her answer was not as clear. Well it was so old… she watched as h stepped on it to bend it and motioned for her to go over, she moved over to the fence, and her long legs would easily make it over that, so she stepped over, finally, some exploring to do that no wolf had explored, not recently, unless they did the same as Ehno, she wondered if any wolf had been over here what fate did they meet?

Well that was easier than I thought it would be,

She said, then got the sudden thought, what if the things that were trapped back here were dangerous? That gave hear heart a short skip just thinking about it. She hoped that whatever was back here wasn’t going to hurt them. She didn’t even know if she could defend herself any better than the day her dad died saving her. She didn’t want to be responsible for any more deaths.

What if what’s back her wants to hurt us?

She said knowing it was a little late to turn back now, she was already over and the itch for exploration was a bit more than her fear that something would come after the two. Besides, there were trees, she was a rather good climber, and well she doubted whatever was stuck here could climb trees or it wouldn’t be stuck here. That did calm her a little, just that one thought, though she didn’t know if her new friend could climb. Well she really didn’t want to find out. It would be better to find some fluffy bunny or something and laugh at the whole thing.
