It was miserably cold outside and Zadkiel was in one of his negative moods, which only made fairing the mixture of snow and rain more difficult. Despite being content with his mother, Zadkiel wasn’t adjusting too well to the more feral living conditions of Canada. Back in Europe, there had actually been buildings and comfort. Here it was mostly woods and a few ramshackle homes. Nothing like the luxuries Zadkiel was used to.

Stomping around in the snow moodily, he headed towards a pile of fallen branches. His small, rough hands dug through the branches until he found a solid one that he liked. Gripping it firmly, he broke off a solid piece of it and turned to the cover of the woods, picking out a nice tree that still had a few leaves hanging from it. He let himself fall to a sitting position against the trunk and quickly pulled out his favorite pocketknife from his deerskin pouch.

With careful hands providing unbelievable accuracy, the seven month old boy chopped at the wood. Letting his hands do the work, in moments a shape began to form, the wood shavings falling into his lap. And as the water from the tree above began to drip to his head, Zadkiel placed the knife in his mouth and quickly wiped his long blond hair from his eyes and went back to work.

Working with his knife soothed him.
