Dated July 4th.

While there had been many strange personalities in the tribe in his time as Chief, Dawali more frequently found his mind encountering Lotus. The teen was close to adult status, but the Chief was uncertain whether the boy was ready for this. He kept talking of himself as if he was a female, and this worried the red wolf. Never before had he encountered anyone who did that, and he wasn't sure if it was an illness or an imagined thing, or something else entirely. He was fairly certain the boy was not possessed, which was a relief. Whatever it was, it was probably not healthy, and the last thing Dawali wanted was to have the child end up as the weirdo of the tribe at such an early age. The red wolf had turned this uncertainty this way and that for the past few weeks, and decided that there was little he could do other than calling the boy to him and attempting to solve the puzzle. Additionally, Lotus should learn about life as an adult in the tribe. The Chief had no doubts that Ember already had taught him well, but tradition was to call the teens to the Chief. He remembered his own encounter with the Chief when he was just a year old; it had been quite intimidating, but at the same time he had felt very important. Dawali believed it was important to maintain these traditions; it could only contribute to the loyalty within the tribe. Sitting in the Town Hall, in the middle of the village, he had many items strewn out on carpets in front of where he sat cross-legged on the wooden floor. Russet muzzle was lifted, and he called for Lotus, and Lotus only, to join him in the large building. He should have to do this for Anatole too, soon, but now it was Lotus' turn.
