It should feel odd, shouldn’t it? The male stayed in his two legged form for so long, wouldn’t shifting back to his normal canine body feel foreign? But, it didn’t. Each time Heath returned back to the body that he had been in as a pup it was not a foreign feeling that he got at all. It was comforting, as if he had chosen to return home and there was something right about the decision. Heath had picked his regular secluded location, out north beyond the stables to strip off his jeans and leave his pocketknife and folded clothing on an old fallen log. He fell to his knees before setting off the change, easing his body into the shift with a deep breath and relaxed muscles.

Then he was back, amber eyes blinking, his four paws settled on the ground and all his toes feeling the soft earth. He sneezed, shook his coat out as if there might be dust on his black, gray and brown lupus pelt and then set out into the undergrowth. There were small trails, with old worn game tracks leading him into the forests of the pack lands.

Black nose fell to the ground, large coyote ears swiveling and working the wind that drifted around the trees that surrounded him. Small scuttling sounds spoke of arboreal small mammals, and he could not help but perk at their sound and scent. A squirrel was something to be ignored, but his stomach was empty and on the verge of protesting with rumbling growls. Heath set his nose to the ground once more and continued the search for something with a bit more substance.

So sorry for the wait! 302

Not a drop of rain fell from the heaven where grey clouds were dispersing along the horizon. What a change it was from the morning while a thin layer of haze still lingered between the trees. The female chose her favorite spot, a patch of towering pine trees directly in the middle of the sky. She was already in the hunters crouch, her metallic colored irises locked on a doe that grazed quietly on her own. The gentle breezes brought her scent directly through the mouth of the hunting girl. She drank them pleasurably, swishing her tail from behind the log where she lay.

The grey female found she was unexpectedly close to the prey without being noticed. A forests ground like the one under her coal black paws was softened by the mornings rain, absorbing all sounds. Digging her claws in the dirt, the young wolf rose from behind the log, her jaws opening. The deer shifted to another patch of watered grass, catching the wolf’s stealthy movement to her left. She raised her head and bellowed before pawing the earth and bounding through the forest away from the predator. In a split second, the female was on her trail, flying through the trees at a blinding pace.

She could hear the breath flowing in and out of the deer’s lungs and her pelt brushing against the wet foliage in her haste. The sounds mingled with the own roar of the wolf’s blood in her ears and through her veins. Legs pumping, the wolf leap over a fallen tree and landed silently in the bracken on the other side. Her eyes sparkled with joy as she found herself full of pleasure with the chase. Focusing on the white splash of fur on the doe’s tail, Ever found herself gaining.

thats not a wait at all ^^... you can decide if Heath helps of hurts the chase xD

Heath meandered, his pace was even and at a calm trot. His nose was working the ground, testing each blade of grass, each bit of open soil. The scents had fallen, the trail lingering around the moisture that had collected at the base of the green undergrowth. Ears moved to the left, the sounds brought to him before the scent. He was downwind, improper for an actual hunt and in the path of something moving quickly.

The Marshal could tell the difference in hoof patterns, the difference in weight, the hollowed sound. It wasn't a horse, the sound wasn't heavy enough, and what would a horse be doing out here anyways? They stuck to the more open areas, the wild herds gathering in plains and fields. Without the use of his nose (for the wind only gave him what lay behind him) his amber eyes looked upwards, attempting to see what it was that came crashing towards him before it burst through the greenery.

The coy-wolf braced himself, and when the nose of the deer broke through the foliage Heath moved briskly to the side. Stumbling, Heath tried to keep his balance but fell to the side and then fumbled back to gain his footing. A blur came behind the deer, a wolf. The male rose with haste, attempting to follow.

Ever fell into a comfortable rhythm, following the scent trail of the doe that raced in front of her. She became able to anticipate the deer’s movements, both creatures familiar with the woods. Her tongue lolled out of the side of her mouth where cream colored fur grew. Suddenly, the predictable doe sidestepped gingerly and galloped off in other direction. Caught by surprise, the wolf slowed to a stop for an instant and looked around, enraged at losing her prey while she listened to its light hoof steps fade into the forest. She could smell the male before she laid her grey eyes on him. He looked ready to follow her into the forest. She wasn’t going to let her prey slip from her claws. Lips pulled back, Ever snarled quietly before spinning rapidly around and fleeing back in to the woods.

The female let out a ravenous growl when the deer came into view again. It was slowing in front of a slope that dipped dangerously down to the sea. Teeth dripping, the grey wolf growled loudly at the moment another wave of hunger shook her stomach. Her feet circled the prey as it stared blankly in her direction, quivering slightly. Muscles bunching Ever sprang on top of the deer. The doe bellowed and kicked with her hind legs, shifting at the last moment. The wolf landed awkwardly on the prey’s haunches, digging her claws in while it bucked at her chest. Both creatures collapsed onto the grass but the grey wolf ended the scene quickly by a vicious bite to the doe’s neck, killing her instantly. She sat, panting for a moment, lying beside the dead corpse.

Eyes shot to the side, large eared head moving with them to follow the trio that buzzed past him. Heath chased them, hoping to help and if not to merely attempting to ease his curiosity. For he didn't recognize her, or her scent. The coy-wolf made his way quickly, but with the commotion that he heard in front of him he slowed. So much for helping. He figured the other, who was certainly female by the smell of her, was likely experienced and needed no ones help to take the deer to the ground. Heath understood his limits, and knew that he wouldn't attempt to take a full grown deer down himself, unless it was ill of injured. His coyote-like body make it difficult for him to weigh down anything bigger then a fawn.

He crept towards the pair, the scent of blood enter the air and the screams of mercy and the last agonizing breaths escaping into it as well. Cocking his head as he watched the small wolfess on the doe Heath found that she was younger then he expected, unlikely a yearling yet. He cleared his throat, wondering if she had noticed him, and partially glad that he had not interrupted her chase. "Nice catch." He commented, head nodding towards the obvious carcass he spoke of.

She knew she should feel tired. Her legs ached and her muscles were still tense, but still she jumped when the male cleared his throat. The female looked over to see the wolf who had skittered her prey standing with his eyes aglow. Her face softened as he complimented her catch with a pleased nod. A smile then bloomed lightly across her face and she stood, stretching her legs. Feel free to join me, I could not eat all of this myself. This is what the silver furred wolf had assumed the male had followed her for. Her brow furrowed as she realized the words had escaped her lips strained and heavy unlike her usual gentle chimed voice.

The grass around the dead doe was flooded with blood and the slight breeze carried the scent into the forest. It was not a beautiful sight on the clear day. The deer's bellow still lingered in the girl's head as she looked over at the male expectantly. Her colorless eyes took in his form. He didn't look like most of the wolves she had seen around but the female registered his coyote blood. His aura was unfamiliar but she could scent the sweet fragrance of Miracles pack and instantly Ever felt more comfortable. She noticed he didn’t seem to be much older than she was, though he carried himself as an adult. His fur was a beautiful rich brown and black and his slim frame matched her own.

The ocean bellow the ledge the creatures stood on lapped up the side of the wall, spraying foam into the air. Humidity was setting in for the first time in months and rays of sun were shining into the forest, although the shaded grass was still wet from the morning’s rain. Ever swished her tail when a pleasant wind with the absent smell of rain washed across her muzzle.

Honey colored eyes watch her for a moment. Her scent was distinctly Cours, but she was fresh to the pack. Heath had been a member for some time, one of the first he believed that had stuck around this long. His roots were deep and solid in these parts, his pack had grown to become his family and such a thing made it hard for him to even think about leaving. Even when unexpected meetings from his wayward father made him wish to be far from everything that reminded him of the Valley pack leader, Heath had stayed strong and unmoving.

Her offer was pleasant and something that he had not entirely expected. Of course everything that he caught was instantly taken to the cabin that he called home, to be shared with Ruri. But he saw no harm in accepting this fey’s generous present.

Well, thank you. He spoke, his smile lost for a moment. I’m Heath his name flowed from his tongue easily, and then remained silent in the hopes that she would also give him hers. Resting close to the carcass, the male sat across the dead meat from the unnamed fey. He would be polite, waiting for her first to start the meal, take the most tasty and nutritious of parts for herself before taking how own aste. It was her’s after all, and he was not looking to challenge her for it.

She watched him with a sweet smile. It had been long since the grey female had seen anything like the male. His expression became pleasantly confused at her words. Expected. The young wolf had changed attitudes so quickly. It was only the thrill of the hunt she needed for the female was not aggressive when it came to sharing prey. Besides, a dead carcass smelling deliciously to both wolves was a great conversation starter. Most of the time the silver girl was shy, avoiding others whose aura stretched red with distaste even before they spoke to her. But today the sun was shining and the air humid; lighting new confidence that sparked her independence.

The male now dubbed Heath, sat politely on the other side of the dead doe. His body language was practiced and patient, even as Ever sat still. The silence was short, broken again by a voice that passed through a wolf’s lips. I am Ever It was a short statement but the milky voice lingered, easily entwining through words. She couldn’t dare keep the male waiting so she ripped off a small piece of fur, her eyes lighting at the sudden burst of flavor. Hungry with desire Ever let her instincts take over and thrust her teeth into the hunk of meat. Blood flowed through her mouth and the warmth satisfied her cravings. It was indeed a good catch, not even the female could object, but a hard one. The silver furred wolf was impressed by her skill, having to hunt for herself for 3 months she had picked up on some expertise. Looking over the red carpeted body of the doe, the female watched the male’s activity.

Heath was not helpless, and was not one to feed off the winnings of others. If Ever had been a male Heath might have bowed out of the conversation and kept his pride whole and full and found something that he could take back to Ruri. But, she made him feel welcomed at the foot of her kill, and it was growing ever harder to keep himself from diving nose first into a bloodied patch of deer.

She spoke, giving her name and Heath gave a small nod as he accepted it into his memory bank. It was then that she took to the feast, for such a catch was calling to all of their senses. The coy wolf kept his eyes on her as he stood to approach to dead beast, knowing well where he stood at this meal.

There was something very different about them all when they came to a fresh bloodied corpse. Control and tone was not something that they always could manage to keep, and Heath would watch her until she had settled well into her feeding. It was instinct that made him do so, for it would instinct that might possibly make her change her mind in allowing him to join her. The male let his ears fall for a moment, his body resting on the ground and he looked away as teeth sunk into the cooling flesh.

Sorry for the fail post. It's late :3

The female shifted, attentive to how weary Heath was. She sighed contently as she felt the corpse move when the male dug into her catch. Chewing on the meat she found herself quickly full only to see she had eaten a decent portion of the doe. Clawing out a bone from the lifeless creature, a little ways away from the body she began gnawing on its hard bloody surface. Watching Heath, she wondered if he was willing to converse. The two had hardly exchanged any words past the simplicity of their names. Occasionally she could see the males amber eyes intent on the kill as he continued to feast. At these moments the silver female smiled, glad she could have company. It had been awhile since she had had anyone to share the beautiful cloudless minutes with. Licking her cream colored maw, Ever decided she would wait until Heath was satisfied before she broke the silence.

Heath sunk into the deer’s flank, the vaguely warmed meat tasting salty and fresh as he calmly opened the skin and ate it as well as the muscle beneath it. It was tougher then the softer organs that hid inside the cavern of the beast’s ribcage, but Heath was happy to settle for what he had. Part of him wanted to fight her for the tender tissues, but only the instinctual voices that told him to fight for everything and anything that might be better. They were easily quieted soon after he felt the heavy and familiar weight in his stomach.

With the speed that it took for them each to get their fill, there seemed to only be a moment or two of true silence. The coy-wolf licked his chops, tasting the blood on his teeth and wiping them clean. His eyes looked at the hole he had created, licking at the ravished flesh and finding that he could not consume another bite. Eyeing the female, Heath rolled to his side, his black nose pointed up and a smile hung on his face. Thank you. He spoke with deep satisfaction in his voice.

She smiled even though he couldn’t see it. Not a problem. The sky was an endless blue, bright as the water. Colorless irises wandered lazily, looking for something to focus on. Rolling on her side Ever looked over the edge of the slope at the water frothing against the rocks. Her tail twitched when a gentle breeze wavered the blades of grass and tickled her pelt. She closed her eyes and sighed, her stomach full and warm.

The air was getting colder as the two wolves lay in the ledge, breathing. The female turned towards Heath, feeling rude for getting lost in herself. She pondered her memories for something she could say as she looked at his face, silhouetted against the sky. Turning up blank, the silver wolf remained silent and instead stared softly at a daisy brushing against Heath’s pelt.

It was like the calm before the storm (though of course it was after their personal storm), the settling of stomachs that had pushed them to become the animals that at times they wished to forget they were. The moments after the chase were almost more crazed then the actual hunt and kill. Though he had calmly asked for her permission to join her meal Heath had felt the uncontrollable need and the blood in his mouth had taken its course and killed his any power he had over his instincts. But now they could relish, savor the flavor that faded on their tongues, leaving them dry and allow their bodies to digest.

He heard her shuffle in the grasses, and looked up himself. He yawned, simply his body telling him he had eaten too much and the only plausible idea was a nap. No, he thought. Heath stood, stretched his legs and then falling into a full stretch of his back, shoulder and hip joints. His stomach felt distended from his lean build, though he figured it was merely his brain reminding him that he needed a bit more muscle mass.

A lazy summer day. He commented mostly to himself, forcing his legs to stay standing rather then fall into a sitting position as he paused in his movements. The corpse sat next to them, and though he didn’t have much of a problem with death so close and present he asked, I was going to find some water, join me? Gold eyes looked at the female, wondering if she would follow.

The strong wind rolled across the territory and brought a wisp of clouds with it. Leaves rustled in the gust and the grass, lush and green from the morning rain, swayed lightly. Heath’s muscles rippled before he stood and Ever watched him stretch lazily, remaining on the ground. He commented on the day more to himself but still the girl nodded. He glanced at the corpse than asked if she would like to join him from a drink of water. Tongue rasped dryly over cream furred maw, the female stood and extended each of her black legs individually.

With the satisfactory crack of stiff bones, Ever tilted her head towards the male’s and met his golden gaze, a smile reflecting in her eyes. I would love to. She said quietly and padded up to his side. In her mind’s eye Ever tried to figure where Heath would take her to drink. Her eye’s wandered along the cliff ledge again and watched the mist float and fade into the air, dampening the red ocean rocks.

A stream or crick was never far away in the Cours pack lands. It was only when one got too close to the beach that the small waterways seemed to dry up and be replaced with sand and rock. But here in the lush greens there would be no problem finding water to quench their thirsts. Both wolves seemed at peace, content and comforted by their heavy bellies. Ever accepted sweetly and they walked through the shaded tree cover with a pace that was slow and lazy.

Before water to smelled or heard of Heath questioned her, simply to break the silence that had come over the pair, Has Cours treated you well? Heath was a long standing member, rooted deeply within the ranks and happy with the home that he found. He wondered if the younger female had found the same. Paws crept over the sparse grass until the trees thinned slightly and the brook could be seen. The male paused, letting the female make the small decent down the bank and into the small deprecation that the water had etch out of the landscape.

The female followed the male closely as they walked through the woods slowly and easily. Their paw steps were silent as they padded on the soft ground and clumps of grass that grew randomly. Ever’s eyes lit up at the canopy of trees thinned and sunlight shone through the spaces created and onto a slim river, turning the ripples to crystal. The girl hesitated on the gentle slope, studying the river that had seemed to have grown there itself, until Heath questioned her out of silence. She descended down the shallow hill and onto the bank of the brook.

Ever lowered her head and lapped up the cold water quietly before answering. Her mouth was no longer dry and she felt as satisfied as ever with a warm feast and cold drink. Thinking hard about her experience, the female finally answered.

Yes, it has. All has been well. The girl said truthfully, staring down one side of the shallow stream. Although it was thin, it was well composed into the forest with every curve and twist rounded elegantly. The silver wolf bent to drink again, noticing the pebbles shifting slightly from the current on the bottom.
