It had taken a day to track them down, for the lands were vast and they moved continuously. The task was not like searching for prey, that was much easier. Heath was not particular when it came to what he hunted, and it was usually something as common as hares. They were plentiful even in the field beyond the stables and Heath had little trouble catching them and plenty of luck. No, this took time. Time that he arranged to be away from home, packing plenty of previsions for both him and Lumière.

Once they had come into view the Marshal had stepped back, using his nose to follow them and allow them to get a little more comfortable with his lingering scent. The next morning, he came close enough that they could be seen over the clear hills. The sun had blazed the grass brown in places, and they huddled in the green patches of grass and clover. Heath sat atop a rocky out-crop, amber eyes watching them graze, taking note of their interactions and who lead and who followed.

It had been the roan mare that accompanied him that had told him that this was where she had grown and lived for all the years of her life. Heath remembered the day that they had met. It had been by a stream, alone in the woods. But the herd had not been far and when she accepted his wolfen scent and posture so did they. There was something about the group, something that set them apart and made them worth tracking for so long. Lumière’s abdomen was extended slightly, the babe inside still growing and far from ready to meet the world and she stood beside him, eyes dark but reflecting the same that shone in his own.

The male rose, nothing on his person but rope in his hand and the bag that was slung over his shoulder. He huffed, and made his way down the small ridge and towards the meadow, his companion unsaddled and following.

Liliana was walking towards the wolf and the horses, unknowingly, she’d been thinking about getting her own horse, but she’d not know anything about where the herds were near here. Today she wasn’t looking for them, she was just walking like she normally did, she loved exploring the lands inside and outside of the pack she’d joined after her parents died. Today it was a nice hot day, although her shaggy coat was rather long, and it did make her feel hotter than normal, she still felt rather comfortable in the shade, out here though, there was not so much of that, but she wasn’t complaining. She was happy, it was not raining, her fur wasn’t sticking to her, it was a good day, just then she spotted a wolf, she stopped suddenly, her heart beat quickly on her chest. Just as she was turning around she saw his horse near him, unbridled and unsaddled following him. Her ears perked up. The horse was a beautiful smoky grey, She could see that the wolf and horse were both looking at something, just further back, she was curious but it looked like they were up to something, she saw the rope and a bag, as the wolf walk down the small ridge that was blocking her view of what he was up to. She moved up the ridge quietly still a few feet away, then saw exactly what they were up to, she let a small audible gasp, it was a herd of horses! She knelt down, knowing that her presence was known, at least to the horses, she didn’t want the wolf to think she was going to hunt these animals and much less let the horses know the same thing. For now she’d observe, maybe if she really tried she might even catch herself one. But unlike the other wolf she wasn’t prepared to catch a horse. She’d at least come back an trail them when she got the supplies to catch one herself. How could she be so unprepared?

please let me know if i didn't follow your right ^^

There would always been much to take into consideration when on such a hunt as this. There was a chance that he would go home with nothing, and the chance for that was very good. The coy-wolf continued his calm and slow walk. He knew not if they would startle, but would not allow his body to tense with the anticipation. Something came to him on the wind, something familiar and yet something that he had not expected. He took a deep breath, keeping his body completely relaxed, and then turned to find the one that stalked him. Normally Heath would be subject to his feelings, horribly tense and on edge at the thought of being followed. But here he knew better. Though Lumière would allow his emotional outbursts, these new horses would not.

Amber eyes looked to find a dark muzzled and shaggy furred female. She was a tribes woman, her scent so very obvious. There was no place for mixed feelings, he knew well that he needed to be calm. It needed to begin here and travel with him as he got closer to the herd, who (as he glanced backwards) did not seem to notice any disruption in the their world. Grateful the morte dre Soul male gave the newcomer a nod, and closed the small distance between them with a few purposeful steps and found that he was neither annoyed by her presence or disrupted at all.

Hello. He spoke. There was no rush, for rushing would make his task near impossible, and Heath merely greeted with a small smile. The roan mare that was his companion stared at her, perhaps a bit annoyed that she was not enjoying the sweet grasses that they other horses were standing among. What brings you here? Heath asked openly, wishing to know out right if she targeted this herd as he did.

As predicted the wolf had spotted her scent, and when he turned and walked up to her, she decided it was best to show herself full height. She straightened as he came closer, this was a well built wolf, who looked like he did some hard labor, having to take care of a horse did take a lot out of a wolf, she knew, she was taking care of the horses and cows and bulls and what ever animal they had around. He’d offered a smile, which meant he meant no harm, yes? She knew he was after the horses, maybe he needed another one. What if he was able to help her get one too? If he did, how would she take it home? He was quite too the point too, before offering a name or anything the wolf asked her why she was about.

I’m sorry I would have passed by, but I saw your horse. And then I saw the herd. I’ve been looking for one since I came to live in AniWaya.

Her speech was slightly accented, with some of her words were a little over emphasized but still easily understandable. She wanted to make sure that Heath knew where she was from and that she wasn’t following him for any particular reason, and hoped that if he was doing what she thought he was, he’d help her out too. She could do it easily herself but the herd was here and now, and she could see plenty of beautiful horses in the mix, but it didn’t matter what color it was, the horse tended to choose its master if it really wanted to. She could tell these horses were rather at home, they didn’t seem to care that the two were here, which was a surprising thing, but not so much since she knew many packs lay all around the herds territory. She already felt excited about breaking in a new horse, and even better about training it. Her mother had taught her bareback riding, but she’d always had a bridle on the horse. It might prove difficult go bring one home with her.

Heath did not look away from her as he waited for her response. Amber eyes watched her features for thing that might say she was attempting to deceive him, but he could read nothing but honesty in her tone and along the lines of her face. It was not his immediate assumption, to think that she had followed him only to lie to his face. But this was a delicate matter to the male and he would not take any chances. Her voice was exotic, as was her pelt. He was mated to a dog, and Heath caught the resemblance to the once domesticated creatures in the length of her snout, her ears and feathering that her coat possessed. Her speech confirmed his guess that she belonged to the tribe, a place Heath had only been a few times.

Aniwaya? Heath questioned. He knew that they owned their own stables, though in his eye they were not as expansive as the Miracles’. Heath took pride in the work he did. The coy-wolf did not give her time to answer with much and spoke once again, Were you hoping to tame a wild horse? Another question, and Heath felt that his energy was turning from calm and collected to energized and too curious for his own good. He had the experience, Lumière and Stark were both from the wilds of the ‘Souls regions and he had master them. Though mastering was not the best fitting term, since it was a commitment between to creatures and not a submission of one to the other. Lum owned Heath more then he would ever own her.

I’m Heath, from Cour des Miracles. the French name rolled off his tongue heavy with his first language. I am the horse Marshal there. He commented, giving his co-rank to the female. The roan mare placed her nose on his shoulder, a hand went to touch it before his mind could register the needed to do so. Then he waited, looking for her name.

OOC here!

She could only nod with his first question, was he not familiar with AniWaya? But his next question cut off any answer she had in which made her forget that said answer. She smiled.

I’ve been hoping to find a herd yes, although I have no rope or bridle to take one with me.

she said feeling rather embarrassed for not being as prepared as she should have been. Heath introduced himself, she had heard of the pack Cour des Miracles, but had yet to meet anyone from there and before she could bombard him with questions, he spoke his rank, and her ears perked up to full height.

I am Liliana Vess, I am known as an Elan Soquili which is pretty terms for animal friend, I make sure the animals are fed. I work with the horses too! My mother use to train them, and trade them to pack all across old Canada.

She said excitedly. Her excitement let her forget that her mother was gone now and it was just her, she had no other family, but she was too excited to care. Someone she could talk horses with! She looked to the herd , they seemed to be listening, their ears were twitching back and forth but they seemed rather calm, which was a good thing. Maybe if she could get one to follow her she’d be able to train it and break it. That excited her to no end.

This was quite interesting, the Cours male had found. It was not everyday that he came upon another wolf looking for the same thing he was. But she was not prepared like he had come, and Heath could only conclude that she had actually just stumbled upon the horse herd as she had said before. She was genuine, from what the Marshal could see, and knew that her tribe was an honest and honorable pack. It did not take him long to conclude that he had no issue with her coming with him, if she would like. Under certain conditions of course.

I have plenty of rope Heath responded, a small smile on his face. He had not yet told her his plan on escorting her through the herd, but he would be getting there.

The introduction was completed as she spoke her name, giving a small bit of her history in the same breath. Heath watched her closely, gold eyes taking everything about the dog-looking female in. He felt her energy, saw her body language, heard her tone. To him, it seemed a bit too energetic for what they were about to do. Excitement was normal of course, and a natural response to a situation such as this. Heath was excited as well, but he had squelched the symptoms of it.

I will take you to the herd, but you need to become as calm as you want them to be. He spoke, tone soft as if he hoped to speak the steady energy into her. We can not run into their center and hope they will understand. We need to ask Heath waited, looking for her response. If she hoped to get near the herd, it would have to be on his terms, and his alone.

At his mention of having plenty of rope she nearly whooped with joy, but knowing how skittish the horses were likely to get held it in. She smiled and took a few breaths, letting her excitement quell a bit. His conditions were the same as her mothers, and she knew when to work. It didn’t take too long to slow the rushing of her heart, and become as calm as the wind on a cool spring day. She smiled at him and nodded, looking at the herd.

Yes, I understand,

Was all she said, there was no need to elaborate to much more than that, she was sure after everything was said and done they might be able to tell tales and such. By the time she finished her words she felt fully calmed and she told herself it was best to get excited LATER, she knew how important it was to be as calm as a horse, to let them know she was not there to hunt them. The rest would come when it did. She looked at him, waiting for his instructions. She knew she could go into the herd herself without them running off, but she’d rather work with someone, it would be much more simpler, besides, he was the one with the rope to help, she didn’t. That was the main fact, but she was also very curious about him, and how he took care of his own horses, hoping if they do get a chance to talk later on she’d learn a little from him. She knew quite a bit from her mother but it never hurt to learn anything new, that was the optimist inside her and it helped keep her calm, but she did have to keep quelling the excitement that was building in her. She made sure to clear her mind once the time came for her to go into the herd. Nothing else would matter then.

Good Heath thought as she gave her two worded response. She felt ready even though the male was not the keenest of creatures here, so close to the beasts that had brought purpose to his life when he thought it was about to end he could see clearly. His handling technique was not perfect, for Heath had come to understand that he would never be perfect, but beside a horse he was a better creature. Just as when he was beside the female who claimed his heart. These beasts claimed a part of him as well, and he was bettered because of it. He gave a nod, uncoiled half of his long rope and cut it with the knife that he always carried. His light colored hand handed it to her, eyes looking at hers. With a nod of his head the male turned to approach the herd that he had been tracking for a few days. They had drifted slightly, but not far for the grass was too good to leave just yet. Lumière walked beside him, as if in step with the lean coy-wolf. Heath touched her, drawing in the energy that she projected and learning from it. Meeting Lilliana had broken his concentration, but it was easy returned to him and the purpose of this venture solid in his thoughts and maybe even more so since she had the same. The canine walked together to the herd and when they got so close that their presence could not ignored by the other Heath roan mare moved away from him, her head lowered slightly, ears forward with innocent curiosity.

The male did not speak, his eyes watching the grazing beasts. Amber eyes looked to the female, wanting her to stay close to him. He asked her to come close with a gesture of his hand. Whispers would be best and he needed her to hear him. Heath took a deep breath, standing among so many horses was empowering for the Marshal and he needed to keep the calm that he had spoke about. Nerves and jitters would be smelled and sensed instantly, and Heath couldn’t risk any of them getting hurt. Lingering on the outskirts of the herd he spoke to the Aniwayan with his eyes scanning the herd. The large stallion there, He spoke, pointing to the sand colored horse that grazed alone beside the herd, he owns this herd and we are his guests. It was important to watch him, always. The male had seen him before; Lumière had recognized him as well. Her father perhaps, maybe a distant relative. Either way, she had once belonged to his group and that was the reason Heath had chosen them once again.

Allow them to greet you, if they want. Here. He handed her two apples from the sack he carried, a bribe for someone friendly. If there is any trouble, leave immediately. Don’t run. Heath warned her, waiting a moment for any softly spoken questions before leaving her side to seek out any horse that wished to greet him.

OOC here!

Heath was quite the horse charmer it seemed as he walked into the herd. Liliana did the same, she felt confident… well she had to the horses smelled whatever was on her, and if she thought anything of a meal, they’d trample her. She definitely had no interest of a meal, and was quite full. She made no sudden movements and walked over to Heath when he ushered her over. She stayed quiet, and looked at where he pointed, listening to his whisper, making sure she got it the first time so that she didn’t have to ask him what he’d said. She didn’t nod at understanding anything he’d said, the less movement she made the happier things would be. She kept her eyes on the stallion as she took the apples from the male and scanned the herd. The ones closest to them saw the exchange of something red, and well sweet smelling so a few had perked their heads up. Liliana smiled, letting her head move slowly between the horses. Seeing which one would pick her, she kept her distance from the stallion though, knowing all positions of the great horse. Soon she found herself being greated by a beautiful chestnut mare with an almost see through white mane, She stared at the horse in awe as she moved up to Liliana, she held her hand out, smiling, but showing no teeth, but keeping her eye on the stallion as the mare came to her. She smiled broadly as the chestnut nosed Liliana, inspecting her, she kept quiet as the horse blew on her shoulders, tickling her as she made her hair move.

You are a fine beauty,

She whispered to the horse, letting the horse hear her voice. The chestnut blew through her mouth and shook her head, not use to the noise Liliana was making. She kept quiet, knowing if the horse really did choose her, it was amazing, so fast too. She liked it. She’d have a companion. She looked the horse over, she was well fed, she seemed somewhat young, but older than Liliana, a life partner for sure.

Here's a pic of the one for Heath

The AniWayan left his side and Heath fell back into the state of mind he hoped would show those around him that he meant no harm. His steps were slow, purposeful and yet light. Lumière traveled between the two wolves, though her head turned to look at Heath as he scanned the herd. She was his back up, and his escort through the grazing beasts. Amber eyes looked at their faces, some had paused in their feeding, others walked away and then some still munched on grass and thought nothing of the new canine guests. Every now and again he looked to see how the doggish female was doing, and found that he had no real need to worry. She seemed at ease with them just as he was.

A black and white face stared at him, ears turned to the side for a moment. Heath paused as he passed the young stallion. Lum paused as well, watching as she stood yards away with other herd members between them. The Marshal rounded the stallion, his curiosity heightened. A deep breath passed through his nose, testing the horse’s scent as he was sure the patched one was doing himself. He had light eyes, unlike the darkness of the roan mare’s. They looked at him, no longer unsure his ears turned forward, accepting his presence and curious just as Heath was.

It was gravity, and Heath allowed it to pull him towards the youth. A hand outstretched, an apple placed on the palm. How the tribes woman was fairing he could not tell, eyes locked as he watched this one’s body language. The painted horse sniffed, and took the apple with a great stake of his tail. Lumière was at Heath’s side, her nose close to his face. Her presence spoke of the trust they held, showing his good nature.

WC:424 (2 points) OOC: YAY! Big Grin

Liliana had forgotten about Heath the whole time she was picking out the horse… well actually it was the other way around. The horse just picked her out, she’d walked right up to Liliana, this horse was beautiful and when she watched as it had approached her for the first time she knew right away what name she would give her. The horse seemed to walk on clouds, it was as though every step was prearranged, which gave her so much grace… and that’s what she would call the horse… if the horse accepted. Liliana, in one of her hands she held an apple up to the horse, who took it as gracefully as she had stepped. She wasn’t a clean eater but a horse and an apple… they never usually were. Liliana smiled and put her hand up to the long stretched nose of the horse. The fur was full of dust, but it was as soft as a horses nose could be. The horse moved her head up and down, not use to such handling, but Liliana tried again when Grace settled down. This time she let Liliana rub up the bridge of her nose between her eyes. This was what she loved. Being so near the horses. Even if she wasn’t to take the chestnut mare home with her, she would have thought of this experience as one of the few best in her lives. To be able to walk around in a herd of horses and they not mind her. It was magical. She made a mental note to do it often… even if it wasn’t just this herd, there were others. And if she could do it now just as her mother had when she was alive… she’d do it too, she wouldn’t have to get a horse, just being there with them, was all that she really wanted. She kept rubbing the horses’ nose, letting their scents intermingle with one another for a while longer, before she did remember the wolf who had helped her, she could see him there with a black paint stallion. She was at awe with the nerve of the male. Stallions tended to be hard horses to handle at times, but it seemed just as Grace picked her, so did the stallion pick Heath. She wasn’t in a hurry to ask questions. She knew that in a place like this… if one is in a hurry they tended to get trampled. So it was all about ease, timing and most of all... calm.

It was something deep inside, something as rich as instinct and just as powerful. Heath couldn't explain it; he couldn’t even describe how it happened or how it felt. But it could not be ignored. Lumière watched the patched youth with intensity, her head just Heath’s shoulder. He could not see the dark eyes watching the light gazing stallion, or he would have noticed that she watched him with a hard and trained glare. She was testing him, tempting to see if he would break the calm and question her place among the hoofed beasts. Heath only gave the apple, and stepped back. The unnamed stallion followed, ignoring the mare and keeping his interest on the coy-wolf.

This was what Heath had wanted, and paused in his retreat, finding the stallion still keen on his intent as he had walked towards him so that his flank was closest to the canine. Heath reached for it, gently and speaking through the soft touch he asked for his acceptance. The horse’s shoulder was pale, bright and whiter then any snow Heath had ever seen. The black was inkjet and crossed around his stomach, the blotch so round and crisp that not a single black stand melded with one of alabaster. Solid pieced placed together to create this soundless creature.

He took his time, Lumière watching as always, and learned from the horse. Could he pluck this young steed from the herd without much of fight, not even a whinny or snort? The Marshal did not even question it, he did not even think beyond the feel of the muscle below the perfect pelt. Nothing beyond the rush and push of his breath, nothing beyond the silence that fell between them. Like life pouring out of each of them and melting into one. The rope, looped as the apple in his hand served as hi distraction, and soon it was around his wide powerful neck.

OOC here!

Liliana smiled as she watched Heath use his rope but her attention was right back to the chestnut Mare she had in her own care, which was now nosing at her chest looking for more apples. Liliana decided it was a good time, one where she should bring the mare away from her herd, and into a new one, one filled with horses, wolves, cows, pigs, and all other assorted animals. She presented the last apple that Heath ahd given her and coaxed her to the edge of the herd, where the horse followed willingly, she didn’t hear the other horses as they moved away from her, or the horse their warnings of keeping her head on her shoulders. Liliana used her distraction just like Heath was and put the rope slowly around the horses neck, she was not planning to ride the mare, unless she wanted to be bucked off… one thing at a time, that’s what it was. Right now it was to get the mare home. She was sure Heath had his own hands occupied with the two horses , he wouldn’t miss her, she was sure they would see each other soon, but right now it was time to move. The mare was slightly uncomfortable with the new addition to her person. Liliana cooed soft words then led the mare away, slowly. Today was a great day, and she knew it as she set her direction to Aniwaya, with her prize. She was glad she went out, she was glad she met Heath, and even more glad she found where there was a herd of horses around here, now it wouldn’t take her half as long to travel, and she would mostl likely find more horse herds soon enough. This made Liliana happy, she wanted to whoop with joy but she took deep breaths in reminding herself that Grace was still a wild horse, and sudden noises would make the horse buck and go to the safety of her herd.
