Light Behind the Sun

private, sorry this is all over the place... -headdesk-

Each day was different, something new to see or discover. Anu stayed with the trio of little males as much as she could, though it was impossible to not have to leave them from time to time. That was where the others came it, and Anu had never been so grateful for the pack. She knew that each time she left them they would be in good hands. But this day Anu followed the two more eager of her litter and led the more timid through the Manor grounds and towards the large lake. Anu had wished to show the boys the lake’s shore as well as enjoy the sandy beach herself. The Lt. General had become lost to her Optime form, remaining on four legs ever since she had come to know she was pregnant. And it was simply easier to keep the boys in check in the more lithe shape, having always been more agile with more footpaws.

They were energetic children, Oak and Cypress stumbling over each other to lead the little pack as they made their way through the trees and towards the scent of water. But they were also well mannered and pleasant puppies. She had tried to teach them to be calm and collected, speaking of peace and quiet often as well as the importance of the world around them and of trees. How much they would remember as adults Anu did not know, but she told them of the large guardians that they had been named after, and told them that the Sun was their giver of life. It was a simple creed, but it was her’s to share and so she did.

Alder walked along side her; diligent in keeping up with her pace even if he held the energy to run ahead with his siblings. All their eyes were blue still, and Anu wandered is they would always be the bright mirrors of her own gaze. The smell and sound of the lake was close, and she walked forward and through the parting of the large tree trunks to meet the view of the widespread body of water. Oak barreled through the sandy ground, Cypress not far behind his snout snapping at the black tipped tail in front of him. Anu sat on the sand, Alder beside her, blue eyes looking up at her wondering what they were to do next.

Puppies! ♥ 300+ words.

Vigilante was comfortable with his life, though he was beginning to wish for more. It had been such a long time ago that he and Ayita had discussed starting their own family with a litter of pups born to them, but he did not know if she still wanted to. Their house was full, home to them, as well as Amaranth, Ever, and Zafier. With five of them and the stallion outside, their house seemed to be filled to capacity. Soon, he would broach the subject again with his lovely mate. He was happy with the life that he had worked so hard to build for himself and for her, but he wanted more than what he had now. The caramel-colored King wanted children of his own with Ayita.

Snow-tipped muzzle looked to the body of water he could see in the distance, large paws pulling him in that direction. Once again, he was making the trek to Crimson Dreams on four legs, curled tail held amicably above his back. The summer heat was not particularly something he enjoyed, but his thick and fluffy fur was not only meant to keep him warm and safe in winter, but also to keep him cool in the summer. Still though, he did not like the sun beating on his back. He wanted to continue forging a relationship with the Dreamer pack, though, so he set off in his normal dog form for once.

Multiple scents and sounds reached him as he came closer to the part of the lake that was territory of the Dreamers. The King's jade eyes settled on the small family he was approaching, and the male slowed, not wanting to be perceived as a threat. He kept a bit of distance between them, hoping that the mother would not think of him as an intruder. "Hello there. I am Vigilante Haskel, the King of Cour des Miracles. I was just visitting, hoping to meet someone else from this pack," he called, his tone warm and friendly.

Big Grin!

Her mind slowly grew blank. The worries of the future left her, but with them so did the possibilities. Her black nose rose to meet the sun that hung above them, her face taking in the warmth that washed so generously over her, given by the round gold orb. It was a pleasant feeling, and she greedily bathed in it’s raze after having been confined in the Manor for so long. Her eyes closed for a moment as she blindly stared into the sky. Her ears took in the sounds of scrambling in the sand, of bitty growls and small barks. Then there was the presence beside her. Anu sighed deeply, content as she broke her meditation and looked downwards to see the black and tan pup facing the sun as well. He opened one eyes, likely feeling the stare that Anu was giving. He sat perfectly still just as she did. Go play with your brothers. Anu spoke, scooting him forward and was met with much resistance. But the black-faced pup moved towards his siblings and awkwardly got into the middle of their games.

The trio tumbled and gnawed on each other’s ears as they wrestled. Oak ran quickly around the others, splashing in the water as he tried to pounce on the molted brown and black burly Cypress. The discovery of the lake did not go unnoticed, and soon Cypress and Oak had learned the wonders of splashing and Anu was surprised to see that Alder joined in on his own accord as well.

Through the ruckus that the pups were making Anu felt the presence of another, her ear turning to take in the noise of the male that approached. Boys She spoke in a hushed tone laced with her strict ‘mom voice’ in order to get their attention. Her head turned as she recognized the scent of the Miracles pack. She remained seated, still and waiting as he spoke. Then the female rose, the blue eyed boys following with curiosity as she approached him. Welcome Vigilante. Her voice was warm and her smile wide. She had wished to meet the leader of those lands for some time, especially after the last meeting she had with one of his followers. I’m Anu, Lt. General and second in command here. These are my sons, Cypress Alder and Oak. Anu paused, but it was only in the next breath that she spoke once more, It’s a great pleasure to meet the King my son Haven serves.

♥ 300+ words.

Jade eyes watched the puppies play, a glint of amusement visible. Vigilante had helped to raise his sister's litter, and he had been present for much of the upbringing of Amaranth and Kable, but someday, the King wanted a family born of his own blood. He loved the family he had built for himself in Cour des Miracles, but there could—would—be more for him someday. The mother present was lucky to be blessed with three visibly healthy puppies, and possibly more, though he thought it unlikely that she would take only some of her young children out to play.

The King smiled as she approached him, the warmness in her very obvious. It was rare to see such friendliness upon first meeting, though he suspected it was also because he had taken the liberty of introducing himself and giving his purpose upfront, rather than needing her to draw it out of him. Vigilante chose to be careful about how he went about his business, knowing very well that his behavior would reflect on his pack. The image he hoped to present of himself was the one he wanted his pack to be seen as; it should be respectful, first and foremost, on another pack's land.

Vigilante returned her warm smile with one of his own, curly tail resting low on his back today in a show of respect. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Anu, and you as well, Oak, Cypress, and Alder," he added, smiling happily at the three boys, his expression less stoic than usual for just a moment. "I had not realized Haven's mother lived so close. He is a good man, and though I don't know her well, his mate seems nice as well. She was a member here at one point, I believe," he continued.

There was no doubt in her heart or mind that she was blessed. She was slightly shamed for the insecurities that she had felt when it had first come to truth that she was pregnant. There had been so much joy, but it could not cover the unknowing and the worry and the panic that had come to her as well. But now the mother did not falter in her belief that she would forever live on in the three males that held her blood, she knew that they would grow to be moral beasts for that one one of her greatest wishes for them, though there were many.

Her tail waved behind her, happy to finally know the one responsible for the wonderful pack that Haven resided in. Of course she thought of Anann as well, for the female had been gracious in her courage. Anu owned her her life as well as the lives of the trio that scampered around the two adults, even if the golden wolfess thought her actions were only small and nothing near courageous. Anu watched as the male reflected her happiness, he was not just as righteous as she had imagined but cordial as well.

She could see the heavy dog blood in him, and found his form interesting and slightly exotic compared to the normal timber wolves and coyotes that were common in the area. He spoke with the same warmth of his smile, and Anu gave a slight nod as she responded. I am glad that he chose to settle so close. Haven was one of her children that she could never live without knowing if he was well or not, the fact that he had thrived in the Cours pack brought her ease of mind on a daily basis. He had not always been so stable, and she had worried about him often. She did live here for some time, and is a lovely girl. I was very excited to hear about their mateship. She paused, then extended a small invitation, Come and sit Vigilante, there is a nice breeze that comes from lake.

Oak and Cypress had taken to the male, their noses exploring his paws and curious to know if he was a new playmate or not. Alder stood to the side, weary but still his blue eyes watched him with wonderment. I have also met Anann, and her horse Rem. Anu added, her voice trailing slightly as she moved towards the shore.

Vigilante had come to realize that the pack of Dreamers seemed to keep to themselves, and the members that he had met were kind and gentle. In Haven's case, he was valiant and righteous. The King was finding that he liked the members he had met thus far and he found the premise of the pack nice, calm. Anu was just as kind as the others and very welcoming, and the Miracles dog moved closer, taking a seat near her and accepting the invitation she had offered. Jade eyes watched the two puppies by his feet, a small chuckle rising in his throat. The third pup seemed more timid, but that was alright. It was good that he did not jump on every stranger he saw, even if Vigilante was not quite a stranger anymore.

His gaze travelled to the lake, the breeze ruffling the thick fur of his face. "It is nice here," he commented simply. Cour des Miracles had water as well, of course, considering the entire territory spanned the beach inward. The ocean was different than a calm lake like this one, though. The ocean had waves that crashed every few moments, the heavy scent of salt in the air constantly. This lake was calm and safe for the puppies to splash in.

"Anann is a good woman. I am glad that she joined our pack, and I am glad to hear that she is forming relationships with other packs' members." The last time he had spoken to Anann, she had been trying to determine what would be the best job for her to take on. Vigilante had found her intriguing, and she was one of the members that he hoped he would grow to know better as time passed. He had gotten along with her well when she had come to visit his home.

sorry for the wait! <33

The Dreaming female strode to the lake’s bank and gracefully settled beside it. The King followed and she was grateful that he accepted her invitation. Hospitality was something that she felt a prize to be shared among the region’s groups, and for someone so gallant in his leading of Haven’s pack Anu would not be stingy in her offerings. If he cared for a place to rest in preparation of the trip back to his homelands it would be provided. Though the second in command had a feeling that he would wish to travel straight to his kingdom, keeping vigil just as his name hinted.

Oak and Cypress watched with great interest, sniffing at the male and looking on with wondering blue eyes. They questioned her with their silence gaze, looking to her every once and again as if they sought permission to climb all over this newcomer and play as they always wished to do. Alder suck close to her, attempting to look on with the same amount of quiet interest as his mother commanded herself. But of course there was a more timid look on his face, and he hoped that they King would not address him.

This is Rabbit Lake. The pack shares a home not far from here, called Haven Manor. She said with a small grin, the orange knight that strung them together having been named after it. The woman had been to his home, and knew of the winds and the waves that blew and crashed. It was certainly different, but held its own serenity in the shallow pools and the low tides.

Yes, quite valiant. She scared off a moose that threatened to trample me, saved my life as well as theirs. She motioned to the puppies that had gotten even closer to the doggish leader.

That was not a wait, you silly! This was more of one... >_>; 300+ words. WotD: Galore.

The usually calm, stoic face held a warm smile today as the caramel-colored dog looked on at the puppies. He nodded subtly, hoping that it would be enough of an indicator to Anu that he did not mind if they came even closer, and he would not be offended if they climbed on him like he knew puppies liked to do. The two more adventurous ones were close by his feet, and he chuckled. They were rather cute, and of course the more shy one was, as well. They would grow big and strong in this pack, adventures galore. The pack of Dreamers seemed to be a good place to be raised.

He listened with interest, recalling all the information that Ghita had given him when she had met him at the Dreamers' borders. "Our pack has something similar, the Chien Hotel," he said, though he did not miss the name of the mansion and its matching of his Knight's name. "Most of our members have found their own homes outside of the hotel, though, as our land encompasses an old city. It must be nice to have most members of the pack living in one place. I would think it would be comforting to be so close." He liked having his own house for his family in Lunenburg, but he could imagine that it would be nice for all the pack's members to live in one condensed area.

Brows raised at what she said next about Anann. Moose were not small creatures, and most canines would not consider hunting or fighting off one alone for any reason. Anann had been willing to do so to save a mother and her unborn children. "I am glad that she was there. I do not know you well, but I will say that from what I can see, it would be a terrible shame if she had not been. Not only did it bring them safely here," he said with a smile, indicating the ever-creeping puppies, "but it kept you here. You seem to be a wonderful woman who loves her pack. I am glad a member of my pack was able to keep you safe." The words sounded strange, but he meant them. Vigilante never spoke words that were not true if he could help it, and he always tried to choose his words carefully.

XD

Oak and Cypress moved forward to explore the Cours male. There were not too many males that the pups had been able to interact with, their father rightfully absent. Their brother would always be part of their lives, as well as the males of the pack but they had a certain curiosity about them when ever they had the chance to interact with one. Tails wagged, and Oak put two round paws onto the adults leg, back nose out stretched and investigated his scent and took in his face and doggish features. Anu wasn't sure if they had seen anyone with such strong dog attributes.

Oh, Anu said as he spoke of their type of home. Anu had never been to a hotel, and could only picture a large house in the replacement of a building with many rooms that might be a little more separate from one another then the Manor. Anu had thought that Haven had found his own house to live in with his mate Princess. He had wanted to make a place of his own, to fill a job that needed doing, and be proud of everything he accomplished. I like to to know that everyone is happy and safe, and that the boys won't venture far. Anu had wanted to the boy to always live in the house with her, to always stay close.

Anu was glad as well that Anann had been there for her, and that she hadn't cared who she was saving since the two had never met one another until that day. She hadn't second guessed whether or not she would chase off the moose, no matter who it was that she was saving. Vigilante should be proud for having such a follower. His words were heart warming and moving for the new mother. Anu watching him until her emotions were becoming over whelming and she let her eyes move to the lake in the hopes of sealing her tears. You are too kind Vigilante. She did not know how to express the feelings that were brought on by his words. She paused, searching ... I have worried for Haven, always. As a mother does. I am happy to know that he follows someone who cares so deeply. Such a thing was so important for her son, who's valor directed his every move, to know that his alpha's cause was one he could stand behind.

300+ words.

Vigilante chuckled, leaning down to touch his black nose to the small pup's own. He enjoyed being near the three young boys and he found their adventurous exploration of him endearing (or at least, two of them were exploring his presence, as Alder remained by Anu's side). Someday he would like children of his own. Amaranth and Ever were great, and he was thankful for them each day, but it was not quite the same as having his own. That had been one of his primary interests when he had first come here—finding a mate and raising a family, things he saw as the sort of things that normal canines did—but his priorities had shifted. Or rather, perhaps they had just expanded and grown to include his pack and to realize that a family could wait a bit longer for the King yet.

He wondered what it would be like to always have his family so close. For now, he had Ayita, Amaranth, and Ever in the house with him. Kable had left long ago with his father, and Zafier did not live with them. No one had said as much, but Vigilante highly suspected that this was related to the arrogant male's distaste for him. Eventually both Amaranth and Ever would move out of their own accord, and even if they did have a litter of puppies around the house by that time, those puppies would eventually grow and move out, as well. It was strange to realize this. With the Dreamers' manor, though, they would all live comfortably and close together. He was almost envious.

Politely, he averted his gaze when she shifted hers, sensing the overwhelming emotions. That was fine with him, and she was allowed, but he did not want to rudely stare. Instead, he let his eyes travel over the lake once more. "I do care. My pack means the world to me. I am fond of your son, as well," he said with a gentle smile. The Knight was a valued member of his pack and Vigilante had enjoyed their few talks. "Was it difficult for you when he left Crimson Dreams?"

There had been a time where her three sons had been nothing more then a hopeful figment of her imagination. Having Haven and Mati had always been enough for her, but only in a certain way. She had wished to share a litter with a mate that she loved again, to feel that joy once more. But things happened unexpectedly, and Anu felt blessed no matter the circumstances. She was glad that these three had been conceived in a courtship that was based off of a mutual attraction (how ever momentary) and more importantly friendship. Love was not always a factor in the making of puppies, but she believed that there would always be love in their existence. She knew she was blessed, and would be forever grateful for them. Forever grateful for their father.

Watching the two boy interact with the Cours leader made her heart flutter slightly. It was important that they get to know different male figures, and she was lucky to have befriended Vigilante. As outgoing and brave as Oak and Cypress was Alder was shy. He leaned into her mother’s form, looking away when ever the gaze of the green eyed male looked to him. The mother knew not why he was so frightened, though he did smile slightly and Anu counted his emotions as bashful rather then terrified.

His words were just like the feelings she held for her pack. The pack was everything. It was life, and just as any wolf Anu had yearned for such a welcomed place among her own as she did air to breathe. It was. I have faced many hard time, as does everyone, but his leaving was very difficult. Anu spoke openly. Even thinking about the day Haven had told her that he would not be returning made her heart ache. Her smile faltered and though she did not wish to show the returning pain Anu couldn’t help it. She was grateful that he had found such a place as the Miracles lands, but it was not the same as him being home with her.

The only closure I could find was in know he was somewhere safe, and able to flourish there. Her blue eyes looked to him, her smile returning.

300+ words. WotD: Ambrosial.

He saw the pain that sprung to her eyes, a mother's sorrow welling behind pools of wise blue. Vigilante did not think he had been the cause of such sadness, for it would have been much slower to arrive in such a case. He had asked after the pain she felt about losing Haven's close proximity, but the dull ache must have been there for some time, harbored within her heart and easy to slip out. He wondered if that was the way Ayita felt about Kable having left so long ago, but he could not say for certain. Truthfully, she did not seem as affected then or now as Anu still seemed to be. Was it because Ayita had never seemed to achieve a closeness to either of her children, as Anu so obviously had? The circumstances that surrounded Amaranth and Kable's birth had seemed so out of place, and perhaps they had affected Ayita's ability to bond so completely with them. He could not know.

Vigilante did not know the heartbreak of losing a child. The closest he had ever come to having children was now, having Amaranth and Ever both in the house and to care for. He supposed that even he had a closer bond with Amaranth than Ayita did. Would he feel the same pain, if either one of them were to move to a different pack, even if they remained close? It was not an entirely happy thought, but he suspected that he would not be as affected as Anu had been. He found that beautiful, how much she cared for her son, even into his adulthood. He hoped it would be similar when eh finally had children fo his own to nurture and cherish. They would become his world, or so he hoped.

"You are a respectable woman," he mused, though it had not been originally intended to be spoken aloud. Still, he was not surprised by what he said, nor was he embarrassed to have spoken it. He meant each word very sincerely. Anu was kind and generous with her time, welcoming him to the ambrosial lands of Crimson Dreams so freely and spending her day with him, a stranger prior to now.

maybe wrap this up?

Could a mother’s sorrow ever be stated in the matter of a child? No matter how happy Haven had become thinking back onto those days would always bring Anu some bit of pain. It had been an emotional rollercoaster, finding that all the secrets of her last mate’s past, the deterioration of their relationship and the loss of Haven had all left her heart scarred. Though thoughts of Naniko did not bring her the same sort of lingering unhappiness, Anu could not help but wish her son to be home with her and feel the sorrow that came with knowing that he would never return. But it was the same love that gave her the ability to be happy for her son, one that she hadn’t even given birth to. She had given her life to that litter just as she did the three sons that played on Vigilante’s lap. For them as well, Anu would wish for them to stay with her always but it was their happiness that she would always cherish more.

The males words were a bit of a surprise to the Dreaming leader, and she felt the urge to look away from him at the sudden comment. She was a moral woman, or so she strived to be. But it was not every day that someone told her such things, and someone that had just been a stranger moments ago. The features of her face did not change though, and her eyes remained calm and placid. Thank you Vigilante. She returned with true gratitude felt in her heart though her tone was even yet warm all the same. You are quiet the respectable man. She was honest in her return, not just speaking it in politeness. He was, and she was glad that he was the one that ruled over her allies. The two packs worked well together, the relationships between them many, strong and lanced with blood. And Anu would always be connected to them, as long as her son lived there.

Sounds good to me.

The Haskel male was enjoying the time spent with Anu, and he was glad that he came to visit. Vigilante had come to find that all his visits with members of this pack were friendly and good-natured, and he rather liked that about the Dreaming pack. He could only assume that the majority of their members were as kind and as welcoming as those that he had met thus far, and he was glad for it. He enjoyed knowing that their neighbors were such an amicable group and that the two packs were on such good terms. Their packs had relationships strung between them, and as far as he knew, all of them were pleasant.

The returned statement brought a faint smile to the usually stoic male's muzzle, showing more in eyes that he turned down to watch the three puppies at their feet. "Thank you," he returned. Jade eyes glanced backwards to the way he'd come from, turning to face Anu again. "I don't like to be away for long," he said by way of explanation. "I should be returning soon," he added, "in the case that I may be needed." He did not like being too far to reach immediately, as he knew the pack relied on him as their leader. He intended to be available to his members at any given time.

great!! end here?

It was a pleasure to meet you Vigilante She spoke.

Blue eyes looked at the doggish male and she could not help but give a warm smile. It eased her heart to know that this was the male that ruled over the kingdom her son had chosen, though she had certainly come to trust his judgment. It was important for the fey to know, but it had been more important that Haven had made such a choice. Those days were behind them, thankfully. Days when she worried every waking moment for the Knight. No, those days were far behind her. And yet she was grateful to finally know that whom he followed was someone just as virtuous as her son.

The pups came to their mother as she called them, returning to bounce on their less adventurous brother. The she-wolf watched as the Cour des Miracles male rose to depart, staying seated herself as her lap gained a pup or two. The lake’s quiet waves lapped to her front, the pups still stirring trouble around her and had yet to reach the calmness to match the water’s. They would need more time out to play, and she would push Alder to go play with his brothers.

Yupp! I think it would be interesting for Vigi and Alder to thread at some point, by the by. :3

"The pleasure is all mine, Anu," he said, his smile warm and noble. The caramel-colored male rose, gently shaking out his thick, long fur. He had stayed for long enough that he had enjoyed his visit very much and he felt that he had formed a good relationship with the Dreamer subleader. It was important for him to be on good terms with her, and soon he would make it a point to seek out Savina, as well. He was fond of many members of this pack, and two of his own members had come from here previously. These factors all played a role in determining that he must be on good terms with the neighboring pack's leadership.

Vigilante turned to go, beginning the journey back to his own pack's land. The rest of his day was unplanned, but he would patrol his pack's borders at least once more before returning to his home. The curly-tailed male hoped that everything had been well in his absence, though he had little doubt of that. It was very rare that problems arose in the kingdom by the sea, a fact that contented him greatly.
