◦Initial post:
Denali had live a live as short as anyone could think of as the two month old was looking for his parents, he’d been without them for a few days after they encountered an angry coyote, who didn’t seem to want any of them alive. His parents had taken the coyote’s eyes off the pup himself and fought as Denali ran for his life to hide in the grasses, where it was rather easy for him to be seen in the summer green. But he didn’t know that, he waited many hours before he moved. They were suppose to come… where were they? He bellied his way to where the coyote attacked them. He saw blood, lots of it, and the coyote, but his parents were gone… where had they gone? He’d run around trying to find them yipping for a little while before quietly moving along, knowing they weren’t there. He was sad, they had killed the coyote, but where had they gone? What happened after that?
The days that had passed were too long for him after the first day hunger was striking his belly so hard he couldn’t help but whine, he’d drink at every opportunity but it did not quell the hunger the pup had. He cried for his parents nightly…. Today he was howling as he moved to a territory, although he didn’t know a pack lived here or that he was about to trespass, he was so scared and hungry and lonely, Why did things have to happen so badly, he was fighting to keep consciousness. Something that was hard for a pup who hadn’t eaten for days and had little to no rest. Time passed as he found he had no voice left and soon he was slumping his tail tucked between his legs, his ears flat on his head, life was no fun… not when his own family vanished before his eyes.

The Commander's swift paws moved effortlessly through the lands of her home. Every single plant and rock was familiar to her at this point. Crimson Dreams had been established for over a year now. It seemed hard and easy to believe that fact. Hard, because of how fast time had flown by, and by the fact that she had been gone from Italy for twice that amount of time now. Her homeland was becoming a distant memory, one that seemed like another life. If it weren't for her brother and sister being here with her, she might have forgotten even more of the place she had known just as well as she now knew this home. The sea breeze swept over her sable form and she took the smell deep into her lungs. At least the sea always smelled the same, no matter how different the land was. It would always be the thing linking her present to her past, no matter how far apart.

Her triangular ears flicked. What was that noise? It sounded like a soft, mournful howling. It wasn't the howling of a full grown wolf though. It sounded like it was just a pup. Concern etched itself upon Savina's face as she sniffed the air, trying to catch a whiff of the little one's scent. The sounds stopped and she feared she wouldn't be able to find the pup, but then finally she caught the scent. Moving swiftly her emerald eyes scanned the ground for the small form she knew she was running towards. When the sad sight met her eyes her own tail drooped, ears pressing against her head. She suppressed a whine in her throat as she approached the boy slowly. "Little one, are you lost? Where are your parents?" she asked, fearing the answer.

Denali looked up to hear the padding of a wolf, and his ears perked for a second before he saw it wasn’t his parents, but it was someone at least, with all the commotion he’d caused the last few days, it was surprising that that he hadn’t met up with anyone else, friend or foe. Denali sniffed as the dark wolf asked about his parents. His voice was weak from the constant howling the pup had been doing, but he still had his voice on him.
I… I can’t find them ma’am.
He sniffed and finally the tears came now that the words that had been caught in his sore throat came up, the sadness rushed over him, he knew he wouldn’t see his parents anymore, not if they hadn’t found him yet. As young as he was he could still barely understand that thought, but in his heart that’s what was screaming at him. He’d be alone.

I lost them, I found the coyote, but they was gone.

He sniffed trying to compose his little body, which was not only shaking from the crying, but from the lack of food. He looked up at the female with big eyes pleading her to explain what had happened. He had to know. The answers were there somewhere, and maybe she knew what happened. It didn’t occur to him that the fight had been many miles away in a place remote and not many would know of what happened for the fight was between loners. No pack would know, or even care about the fights of loners unless a pack member was involved, but he didn’t know this, it didn’t occur to the young pup who was pleading the explanation as to why his parents didn’t come to him the second they were able to.

The pup looked up to her, seemingly hopeful for a moment before realizing she wasn't who he had hoped. Pups had come to their borders and wondered onto their lands before, but never had there been one so young. It wasn't normal for one so small to be out on his own. Her own pups had only just started to emerge from the room in the manor at his age. The boy said that he couldn't find his parents and the tears began to pour freely from his eyes. The maternal instincts tugged at her heart and Savina couldn't help herself from going to him and bathing to the top of his head in comforting licks. It was what he needed.

When he mentioned a coyote and his parents being gone a rock fell into the pit of her stomach. That wasn't a good sign. Not good at all. He looked up to her, clearly hoping she could tell him what had happened. What could she say? Chances were that they hadn't made it, but if he hadn't found their bodies, perhaps there was still hope that they were alive, merely injured and recovering somewhere. "Maybe they're just getting better somewhere, and will come and look for you soon," she said, trying her best to strike a balance between being realistic but not getting his hopes too high. "You could stay here, until they find you. This is my pack and we can take care of you while you're away from your parents." Savina hoped that he would stay. She couldn't stand the thought of him leaving and being out there on his own.

"My name is Savina. What's yours?" she asked, a soft smile coming to her face.

ooc...

Denali’s brain worked in whirls, they might be recovering? So they could be alive? And then when she offered him to stay there with her, how could he refuse? She was a big wolf like his parents, she might feed him, and give him a home at least until his parents got back to him. He’d wait for them, make sure they knew where he was. He looked up at her, Savina, he said that in his head as he watched her. Then made a small smile, one that meant he had some hope.

I am Denali.

He said, he didn’t mention accepting the invitation, his brain was whirring all over and he’d thought he answered right when he thought it so he didn’t mention it again, he felt comforted already, she seemed so nice and she was already there for him. He’d stopped crying now, and the only trace was his dry eyes and shuddering, as he was still scared… He learned one of the most important things in life… that it could change in two strokes of a paw if it really wanted to, and without his permission. This was when he learned… he didn’t have control over everything, and nothing would make him happy because he was the center of the world… because he wasn’t. the thought didn’t bode well in his head as his little brain thought it all out. Well battled it really.

I'll get you titled up, but we should definitely continue the thread ^^ 300+

She couldn't blame him for being overwhelmed. It would be a lot for a grown up to deal with, much less such a small pup. Savina felt so sorry for him. He was so young and already he had seen and had to endure things that he shouldn't have had to by rights. It made her realize how lucky her children were, and Anu's children. They had a pack to shelter and protect them from the dangers outside. This boy had been denied that, only having his mother and father to fight for him, and now they were gone and he was alone. Well, he wouldn't be alone any longer. He smiled up at her, and gave her his name. "Well Denali, this is Crimson Dreams, and will be your home for now." The Commander leaned down and gave him a gentle nuzzle, another display that he was safe now.

There was little doubt that the three things he needed the most right now were food, shelter, and rest. Thankfully, they had the first two in abundance, and after all he'd been through she doubted Denali would have a problem sleeping. "I can take you back to the mansion, it's where most of the pack is. We have food there, would you like some?" It was probably an unnecessary question, but she wanted to make sure that he felt welcome here. Looking over him, she saw he was still shivering. "Do you want to walk, or would you like me to carry you?" It wasn't far to the manor, but she didn't want him collapsing on the way there if he wasn't up to moving on his own. Savina had no fear of hurting him if she carried him; he wouldn't be the first pup she had carried around. The mother was an expert at making sure her teeth didn't pinch or hurt.

WC: 332 OOC: by all means I would love to keep going!

The nuzzle he received was kind and gentle and it made him feel much better, the fear of being alone from now on was soon going away, and he watched as she explained where they were and he was welcome here. It was a good feeling. He knew nothing of pack order, or even how to play with the other pack pups. He’d been a loner, he played with his parents but that was rarely they were busy eating or keeping an eye out for something. What he never knew… maybe it was the coyote they were keeping their eyes on. It didn’t mater now, if they were alive and they got him they wouldn’t have to look over their shoulders. It didn’t occur to him that there was more danger than what he’d experienced. At her mention of food his belly made a gurgle and he smiled sheepishly.
yes yes

He said, his spirits now brightening up. He wagged his tail a little showing how hungry he really was as the thought of his parents was driven out of his mind. He was glad that he came here, and met this nice wolf, he didn’t think of what would happen if he met up with someone else and if they would be less nice, the present is what was capturing him now, not what could have been.

I can walk on my own!

He protested, he may have been a pup but he’d been quite independent since he left his den. He rarely had to be carried anywhere, even though he had short legs, much shorter than this wolf’s long ones, something he hadn’t noticed till just now, maybe she had a problem and her legs stretched? He wondered to himself. He wondered what she meant when she mentioned a pack, he didn’t know what it was but right now he was ready to accept anything. The thought of food kept him from asking too many questions. For now.

yay! 300+

It didn't occur to Savina for a moment that he had never been a part of a pack before. It should have been clear, seeing as he had had his parents and then wandered around on his own, but it was still hard for her to imagine. Her whole life had been spent in packs, aside from the brief period where she had left her birth pack in Monti Sabini and ended up here in Nova Scotia. Their kind was a social one, and she couldn't imagine having only her blood family for company and companionship. Their worlds were quite different, and now had met and collided. No matter what though, she was determined to make sure he was happy within these borders.

His gurgling stomach would have been enough of an answer for her, but he further confirmed his hunger with words. The Commander's smile grew, and her own tail wagged in accordance with Denali's. "Well you can eat all you want when we get there." She might have to watch him, just to make sure he didn't gorge himself, but he certainly deserved a hearty meal after what he had been through. She was a little surprised to hear him adamant about walking on his own, but she couldn't blame him. Her children reacted much the same way. "Alright then, let's go!" she exclaimed, slowly beginning to lead the way to the large building that housed the Dreamers.

As they walked at his pace, Savina glanced back to Denali, her mind buzzing with ideas and questions on how to make him comfortable. "Would you like to come and sleep with me and my family tonight Denali? I have three pups that are about your age, just a little bit older. I'm sure they'd love to share the room with you." If he had been with his parents up until this point, he undoubtedly slept by their sides. Putting him in a room all by himself didn't seem right, so she wanted to make sure he had the opportunity to be included.

At the mention that he could eat all he wanted his ears perked up quite a bit, he was actually feeling safer here now, more secure, and he would be with his parents soon. He was sure of it. It had only been a few days after all. They would thank this lovely wolf and take him back into their care. That’s exactly what would happen… at least in Denali’s mind. He followed her, his short legs slowed him only a little, the tiredness of his travel was what kept him from moving any faster but he seemed to keep up with her. It was a good thing. At the mention of sleeping with Savina and her family made him feel more comforted, he knew he wouldn’t be alone tonight. It was so great. He’d never spent a night without his parents until the incident and he hadn’t been able to sleep alone. Not with the night sounds or the thoughts of something just as bad as a coyote coming to get him. He didn’t like it, he hated not having that security around him of the two wolf forms who were his everything.

Yes ma’am

He said, he’d always been a happy puppy from the time he was born, but the mixture of emotions right now was so confusing. He wasn’t sure if he should be happy or sad or anything right now, he was glad someone found him, even if it wasn’t his parents and they wanted to help take care of him, but he missed them so much… it hurt thinking about them. But right now his stomach was doing the thinking and he was on his way to eat plenty of food. That was a good thing. A very good thing and he liked that so for now he knew he should be very happy. After that… well he wasn’t thinking that far ahead.

Denali kept up well, though of course she was taking care to make sure that she didn't out stride the tired pup. Hopefully once he had a full belly and good night's sleep he would mend quickly, at least physically. It would take much longer for the emotional trauma he had suffered to heal, but even if the worst had happened to his parents, she knew that everyone in the pack would work hard to make him happy and content. She was glad that he would have plenty of wolves his own age to play with, that would undoubtedly do him much good. Not only were there her three, but Anu's as well, who were just a bit younger than he was. Denali would have no lack of playmates. "Good, we'll get you fed and then we'll all go to bed. And you can just call me Savina." His manners were a testament to his good parenting, but there was no need for him to continue to be formal around her.

The large old house came into view, they would be there any moment. "That building up there Denali, that's where we're going and where you'll stay for now. I know it can look a little scary at first, but it's very nice and cozy inside, I promise." He had likely only slept in a den or outside in the open before, so this would be quite the change for him. The poor thing had undergone more than his fair share of dramatic changes, but now things should be changing for the better for him. Savina kept her gaze locked upon him though, doing her best to gauge his reaction.

WC: 338 (3 points)

He was liking the wolf woman more and more now, she was so nice, and she was going to feed him! He wasn’t sure what bed was, but he was too exhausted to care, if it meant anything like sleeping he was all up for it. He followed her, taking a few hops to keep up, he wished he had long legs like her. Maybe someday… He moved along the grass and he was shown the mansion… it was huge, he moved closer to her, rather intimidated by its sheer size. He was going to sleep here? What happened to a cave, or even some brush? He didn’t know what this was, he’d never been near one so big and the one’s he had gotten close to he was picked up and moved away from. He was rather scared… this is where the nice woman lived? If she did… maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. As they got closer though… the building got bigger… and bigger… maybe it wasn’t such a good idea… but when he felt Savina’s leg when he slowed down and nearly ran into her, he started feeling slightly braver, and cautiously walked closer to the building.
It is big…is this where the food is?

He asked, he’d go in there if that’s where the food was, and he probably would stick to her like paste afterward but he didn’t think about after eating because he knew that he’d be going to sleep. That’s all that mattered to him right now, he was promised shelter and protection, as well as food and sleep… that’s all he needed right now, until then he’d have to figure things out sooner or later but that was too far up. He licked his chops thinking about a nice juicy rabbit, he’d even thought about a deer, but he’d only had one scavenged and they were not easy for his parents to hunt so he thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to think about the tender meat of deer.

As the manor came into view she noticed that he walked closer to her, very cautious of the looming building ahead of them. She couldn't blame him for being a little afraid of it, she had been a bit intimidated by it her first time setting eyes upon it as well, and she had been an adult. Very large things were always kind of scary when you were so small, and there was no arguing that the building that housed the pack was very, very large. He got so close that he bumped into her leg and she stopped for a moment, not wanting to overwhelm him. "Yes, the food is in there, as well as my family and where we'll be sleeping." Savina lowered herself down to his level, looking into his eyes reassuringly. "You know, when I first saw that place, I was kind of scared too. But I've learned it's really nice. Nicer than any cave I've ever slept in." Hopefully admitting her own fears and resistances would help Denali to feel better. If adults were afraid, somehow kids felt better about being scared too.

His tongue ran along his lips and she could clearly see the hunger in his eyes. Not wanting to delay his meal any longer she rose back up to her full height and nodded in the direction of the mansion. "Come on, let's go get your dinner." The Commander trotted forward and quickly was at the front door to the house. She rose up on her hind legs and expertly opened the door, holding it open for the small pup. "Go right in Denali, and I'll be right behind you." The Italian woman had no intention of letting the little guy out of her sight. That most likely wouldn't be an issue though. He wouldn't likely go wandering about in a strange place so soon, especially not with the promise of food ahead.

OOC: <3 Big Grin

When she bent to look at him eye to eye, he stared at her black form, amazed at how any animal could be so dark. For a wolf that lived his short life in nothing but white grey’s and blacks, this was the darkest he’d ever seen a creature. He listened to her and nodded. She’d been scared. That did make him put a braver face on. If she’d been scared but wasn’t now that meant nothing bad was in the house. It was nicer than a cave? Well he’d been in only a few but they had tended to be occupied. His den was under the ground though just dirt walls. It was normally wet, he wondered if the inside of this house would be wet. He stayed quiet though. He kept close as they walked to the door. She so expertly opened it, he shied for a second when she told him to go in first, but he moved forward taking a look. He couldn’t believe his eyes. It looked much bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. His puppy eyes wandered through the décor in the room. There were things in here he couldn’t have imagined in this room alone. He had the adventure twitch but he was still much to scared. He was in a world far beyond his own comprehension…

It’s big!

Her confession of her own initial fear of the large building did seem to bolster Denali's confidence in moving forward. She was glad that it had had the effect that she had desired. New things were always a little scary, even to adults. The woman had never felt a need to put up the facade that she was fearless and nothing daunted her. There were many things that scared her. She feared for the well being of her packmates, and especially for her family and her children. While her confidence in her role as leader had grown substantially, there were still times that she worried whether or not she was doing a good job. Fear was a natural part of any creature's life, they just had to make certain that their fears did not rule them.

Denali hesitated as she held the door open, waiting for him to go in first, but quickly he did and trotted inside its welcoming walls. Once he was in, true to her word, she followed right after him. The Commander saw his small eyes grow wide with the variety of new and unexpected sights and waited for him to take them in at his leisure. "It is very big, yes! Plenty of space for you to go exploring in later." There wasn't a doubt in her mind that he would want to see every nook and cranny of the place, now that he had been exposed to it. After a moment or two, she slowly moved forward again in the direction of the kitchen, looking back to see if he was ready to follow.

OOC: <3 Big Grin

It took Denali a little while before he noticed she’d walked ahead of him a little, he gave the room one last sweeping glance before scuttling to her, his claws making a funny clicking noise as he walked across the floor to her. He looked down. He seemed to be walking on what looked like trees. But who heard of a sideways tree? He didn’t keep questioning it though because he was hungry. Very hungry and he hurried to the older wolf, a hope in his eyes. He was ready to follow her again. His little tail, although normally high up in the air was low, from lack of energy but he was slightly wagging it showing his appreciation, it sure wasn’t wet in here, it was much dryer than it was outside even! He liked it very much.

She couldn't blame Denali for being so swept away by the image of the large common room of the manor. It was quite the sight for anyone who had never seen such a thing before, much less a small pup. It reminded her very much of the first time she had taken Parker outside and how curious and wide-eyed her little girl had been. This was just the opposite though. Her pups had grown up knowing the mansion while the outside world was new and different. Denali on the other hand had grown up as she herself had. Sometimes the mother wondered if she should have dug herself a den outside for the first month or so of her pups' lives, but they seemed happy and well adjusted, so she didn't worry too much.

When he finally noticed she had moved ahead he scampered back to her and she continued into the kitchen. Her nose found the hatch that lead down into the cellar and she flipped it open. "Wait here Denali, I'll be right back up with food." The Commander hopped lithely down into the cellar and went to their food cache. She was very please to find two rabbits that had been brought in that very day. Picking them up in her mouth she went back up into the kitchen and set the two down in front of the hungry pup. "Eat all you like dear," she said smiling. It was unlikely he could eat two full rabbits, even if his hungry state, but she didn't want to shortchange him.

ooc...

He wanted to protest for her going away, but she was gone and he was alone, and he always did what he was told… well not ALWAYS but right now he wanted to, he wanted some structure even though she’d been putting him way out of his comfort zone, but when she came out with two ready to eat rabbits he didn’t complain. He started pulling at them and eating as fast as he could. His ravishing belly was screaming joy as he felt the new pressure in it. He couldn’t eat much though, the two days that had left him foodless, had made his poor stomach shrink, so it wouldn’t go about eating too much more, and he only ate a part of one of the rabbits. He licked his chops happily, sitting on his rump. It was worth coming in here and seeing all the scary stuff, which honestly didn’t look so scary now that he was full, but he was tired, and a mix of that made him not care where he was as long as it did’t move like that coyote.

so cute ^^

Savina watched happily as the little pup tore eagerly into the first rabbit. She knew how good a meal tasted and felt after you had gone a while without one. There was little doubt in her mind that after he had his fill though that his eyelids would be drooping and he would be ready for a good night's rest. The poor thing wasn't able to eat a whole lot though and he stopped after only a part of the first rabbit was gone. That was understandable though, and his appetite would surely be restored soon. He sat down when he was done and she quickly picked the rabbits back up and put them back in the food cache.

The fey quickly reemerged from the cellar and knew that Denali would be too tired to climb the stairs up to her room. "I'm going to carry you up to my room Denali, and then we'll go to sleep," she said soothingly. Her practiced teeth carefully picked the boy up by his scruff and she carried him back out of the kitchen and over to the stairs. Her paws quickly took them up to the second floor and she nosed the door to her room open. It was empty for now, Kansas and her pups clearly still out for the day, but that was all well and good. Savina put Denali on the mattress and jumped up to join him, her body laying down near his. She would stay here with him, knowing he would want her company and warmth. "Sleep well, little one." Tomorrow will be better, she added in her head.

WC: --- OOC: think it’s time to close the thread Tongue

Denali listened as Savina told him he’d carry him up the stairs, he wondered what those were, but he could barely keep his eyes open now. Once he felt a very different mouth pick him up in the familiar gentleness, he couldn’t help but feel secure. He didn’t make it to the second step, he’d fallen asleep in the dark wolf’s mouth and stirred only to curl up when he was set on the bed, he had no time to think of how comfortable it was or what it was. He was out, after being up for so long.
