lulz

Heath figured that it was much like training a bird. Of course training his new patched horse was far more difficult then the bay mare would be for Niro. He was like a wild bird, trusting so few and having to watch Heath so very closely to make sure that he wouldn’t be doing anything that the horse may not like. Of course everything that Heath wished to do, saddle him, ride him, lead him, were things that the young stallion didn’t want to do at all. He needed to be broken, even as much as Heath hated to use such a word. It was only a way to see if he would stop resisting. Heath had given him every opportunity to leave, and every day he would allow the painted horse to go if it was his wish. If Heath did that he wasn’t breaking anything, was he?

I’m glad they don’t have wings. he said with a light hearted grin.

But the mare had been trained, and knew what it was that the inexperienced handler was doing. It was indeed important that they got to know one another, but as the saddle was laid on her back and tightened to just the point that Heath wanted she knew what they were doing and was ready to do so. Both horse and Marshal were patient as Niro pulled himself onto the saddle, Heath held her head and spoke to her softly. His hand petted her softly down her nose, and once he was seated Heath gave him a nod.

Keep your back straight, just get the feel of her gait. Hold the horn if you loose your balance. Heath told him, taking the lead rope so that he could walk them around. It wasn’t exactly riding, but it would take baby steps before the male would be riding on his own.

OOC: stupid Niro shortpost

I doubt they could be caught if they had wings.

Niro said laughing at the man’s comment, knowing it was a joke. He was glad he was so good with the birds, or they would just fly away and never look back. Marahute was out of site now, but he was sure she was having a tantrum in the stables.

Niro moved to a straight position as Heath told him, kept his back straight and pretty stiff, and they started moving, slowly, he could feel the bumps of her walking as they moved around. It was a bump bump bump and he swayed with the horse once he felt the slight rhythm the horse made. He smiled, he was riding, he wasn’t leading the horse but he was riding.

This isn’t so bad!

He exclaimed happily, there wasn’t a doubt he could get use to this. He might even try to train on a horse as well, just thinking of the possibilities turned his head to his headache and stopped thinking of such things and kept his mind on riding.

short here too

Such a thing was very true. Heath wouldn’t have a horse if it had wings, unless it was willing he guessed. How Niro kept such good track of his flying companions Heath would never really know. But he might if Niro began to teach him about the pigeon system that they might start to have. But he figured that he better teach him how to ride before they began playing with birds.

Niro was doing a good job, falling easily into the rhythm and taking to it like a fish to water. The Marshal nodded his head, leading slowly at first and watching both horse and rider for any signs of agitation. But both seemed content in the slow pace. And the smile of the wolf’s face told Heath that any fears or hesitations in him were long gone.

Course it isn’t. Heath responded with his own smile. He lead them around a few ore times before patting the mares shoulder and lowing the rope and asking her to stop. One more step today is your up for it. Heath knew what it was like to be hung over, and knew that Niro might be a ready for a break. He picked up the bit and reins that hung on one of the fence posts. Why don’t you come down and see how this works. He wanted Niro to see how to place the bit so that he wouldn’t hurt the horse, and well as give him some practice on dismounting.

Wc: ---(3 Points) OOC: awrrrr it’s ok Big Grin having fun nonetheless here ^^

Niro had to admit it, he was having fun! He sat swaying with the horse, but it didn’t make him tired, he even had a new vantage point so looking around he compared it with his own. He did like his own point of view slightly better. He may be able to see a bit more now, but he felt like he was TOO tall. He pulled his leg on one side, and jumped, he may have been a little clumbsy the whole day what with the headache and the learning of new things but he had to say he was graceful at getting off the horse. he walked to Heath to see what he had his ears perked to see the leather straps that seemed to just tangle into each other. Heath seemed comfortable with this thought, but Niro was wondering what this was exactly for. He’d never seen reigns on a horse, well maybe a few times but he never paid attention. he was now and he was quite curious.

I’m not really sure what that is,

he said truthfully watching Heath take a big metal piece in his hands.

fail wait -_-;;
def play him getting back on the horse & such!!

Nothing too complicated. Heath said as Niro strode up beside him and commented on the bridle. Heath had chosen a fair fitting one, the leather soft and worn and yet still strong even though it had been repaired once or maybe twice. Amber eyes looked at the pale wolf, a bit of seriousness n his gaze, though it wasn't rocket science there were still a few important factors that needed to be remembered. Just as with the saddle the fit of it would keep the horse happy and safe just as it would keep Niro in the saddle.

Its like the halter, Heath explained, holding the bridle on the horses face to make sure that the bit height was correct. He made an adjustment, allowing the other wolf to watch as he did so. but this bit will be placed in her mouth for a little more control. he explained as he showed off the piece of metal. The western style only had a few straps and once he showed the space behind the mare's teeth where the bit would lay it was simply a matter of making sure he understood the looseness of one strap and the tightness of another.

Nothing too it. Heath joked, giving the mare a soft pat on the neck. Of course she accepted it fine and knew what he was doing was nothing to harm her. Dark eyes blinked at the two wolves, docile and content to just be in their company. She knew the drill, and with the addition of the bridle knew what would likely come next and didn't seemed phased by it at all. Alright, you got that? Heath asked, looking back at the mowhawked canine.

Wc:--- OOC: this was my reaction when I learned that a metal thing went into a horses mouth lol

Niro looked at Heath incredulously, you put the metal thing INSIDE the mouth? He rubbed his jaw thinking of how uncomfortable that would be for the horse, but as he watched the horse seemed to know what to do as she chewed the bit to the back of her mouth. The loud bone on steel made Niro worry a little bit, but she seemed content with it in her mouth and she snorted a little too… he’d still think that was uncomfortable.

won’t that hurt her? I really don’t want to hurt her, I mean isn’t there another way?

he asked, a little wary of wanting to get up but Heath had been one to take care of his animals and Niro could see it must have been a normal thing for the horse. He nodded and knew that he was being told it was time for himself to lead the horse. he felt queasy about that, one because he knew little of what he was doing, and another because he really didn’t want to hurt the horse at all with that metal in her mouth. He got up, much easier this time and sat in the saddle. He was sort of feeling rather reluctant to take the reins until he was reassured it wasn’t going to actually hurt her, but he couldn’t see how it couldn’t hurt her

lol XD

Heath paid little attention to the other male’s reaction as he eased the bit into the mare’s mouth. She looked on with out much of a care, acting as it it was nothing to shake a stick at. She would have told him quite visibly if there was something wrong in her mouth that made it uncomfortable, and Heath had measured the halter against her face to make sure the height was correct. It was only his concerned voice and his question that made Heath turn to face the wolf.

Of course he didn’t mind being questioned, it was an understandable one. But the Marshal did not take the bit from the horse’s mouth and began checking the straps for snugness. Nope, not it its fitted right. Just think, you will need to ask her to stop. Heath reminded the male. This will give you the control to ask that question. They are powerful animals and I don’t claim to have control over any of them, they could stop my ass in a second if they wanted. But when you two are on a high speed gallop and you see a cliff that she can not, you need to at least be able to break her train of thought and remind her you are a team. This is the most efficient way of doing that, especially for a new rider.

It was like the kill, or the chase. Their minds were locked into the mere physical sensation, the adrenaline and the speed and the power that filled them and so quickly drained through their paw pads and into the world around with each powerful lunge only to be replaced with each inhale. He would see that every different species had that mind set, that zone that they couldn’t be easily drawn from. If Niro experienced the true speed of the horse he sat on he would be grateful to have the saddle to cling to, the reins to hold, and the bit to help him slow them down.

Heath handed him the reins, his eyes looked up at the green eyes male. Was he ready?

WC: 325 (3 Points) OOC: Just to let you know he's squeezing his legs onto her tightly, which normally means "go a bit faster" if this isn't how she was trained though let me know!

Niro had been reassured, at least just from the words of Heath. He explained why it was needed, and Niro could see why he’d need them now, and that it was for protection as well as direction. And that the bit didn’t hurt the horses mouth, made Niro pay more attention, and make sure he’d remember, he knew he’d have to do it with company next time, and then he’d have it down enough to be ready to do it on his own. He was handed the reins and he took them cautiously, he could see the horse’s ears were pulled back to listen to his words, which he had none, he sat in the saddle awkwardly, trying to think of what he was suppose to do next. He didn’t have Heath leading the horse anymore, how was he suppose to make her move? How had he seen the other’s ride off? He remembered they had used their feet? He lifted his legs off the side of the horse but she didn’t move. Then he dropped them feeling rather foolish in front of heath, and as soon as his legs hit her sides she jolted a little and she was off, just a little faster than Niro liked, well it didn’t go too bad considering he was still on the horse, but she was moving and he was trying to stay on, although he tightened his grip on the reins it seemed to slow her some, but she seemed confused and he didn’t know why. Niro wasn’t panicing though, he just wanted to stay on the horse and not fall off of it. It worked for a short time, but apparently he was giving her some mixed messages that she didn’t like and she jolted a few more times, and he was off of her. She hadn’t bucked or reared, but moved enough to where Niro slipped right off her back and onto his own.

His back tinted hand gave the pale wolf the reins and Heath stepped back to give the pair enough room. All he needed now was to ease her gently into a trot, nudging her with his heels. Amber eyes watched as the wolf picked up his feet a bit, and it kept the Marshal quiet thinking that he already knew what to do at this point. But he brought his legs down too strongly and the mare jumped at the command and moved with the same force he had given. His eyes widened, knowing that this was not going to end well. But Niro layed into the reins to slow her, though his efforts were not a clear as they should be. Mixing the commands of his legs and his hands, a bit more complex then Heath had anticipated for his first riding lesson. Hold the horn. He called, but his voice seemed lost to the rider as he bounced and then slid off the bay mare.

Heath had already moved to retrieve the horse's harness and walked with her until she was settled and slowed to a stop. His bomb proof horse seemed a bit sensitive at her sides... Heath swooned over her for just a moment, petting her nose and after the bit of wild she held in her gaze was gone he turned to the other male. Heath walked over hurriedly, extending a light colored hand to the male to help him up. Maybe that's enough for today. He said with a small smile, looking him over to make sure that he was wasn't hurt badly. The male had done more being hung over then Heath ever had, he needed a break. They could return to it a bit later... That was if Niro wanted to try again.

Niro felt a little more than embarrassed by the thought of what happened, and wondered if he looked like a flying idiot to Heath when the horse pretty much made him fly. Niro was not very happy with that bad lesson but maybe he should have asked what to do first before trying to figure it out? He saw that Heath was comforting the mare making sure she was alright and calmed down.

If you’re done with her perhaps you could comfort me a little too I’m feeling a little lonely over here.

Niro joked as he slowly picked himself up off the ground, that was how much he felt at ease with the other wolf. He’d normally only make flying jokes like that at his sister, but he could tell Heath had a humor. As he checked himself over, he could tell there would only be a few bumps, nothing to worry about and he turned to Heath.

No that was my fault, I really wasn’t sure what I was doing, I should have asked first, could you tell me what I did wrong? We could have one more go and then call it a day.I promise

Niro said stubbornly. Even the knock off the horse didn’t seem to bother him as much as it should, he wasn’t even reminded of his headache, in fact it made him forget about it even more since he’d gotten more pain in different places outside of his head. It didn’t bother him as much as it normally would have, he was glad for the distraction, no matter how painful it was now or it will be in the future. He was determined to give it at least one more try though, one where he could say he confidently did something that was worthwhile and not done only out of inexperience.

^^

He had pride, and determination. Heath could respect that, and though he wondered if Niro was feeling that headache return, he wasn’t about to tell the male no. It was all about getting back on and trying again. The Marshal had his own share of falls, but he remember that at first he was reluctant to get right back on again. This was good. Alight Heath said with a bright voice, encouraging the male to mount the horse again and give it another try. The coy-wolf gave him a pat on the shoulder, and then moved back to the mare to check her over once again. He looked at the saddle, and then the bit and bridle. Everything seemed to be fitting well and he looked all over mouth for anything that might maker her sensitive and found nothing.

Now watch your heels, don’t squeeze her sides with your legs. The wolf had look relaxed and comfortable when he had led them around the ring. He needed to return to that. Just sit for a moment, let her get used to the weight again. Heath knew that Niro needed to mount and just take a deep breath. There was no reason to rush and get them both riled and off onto another miss-gaited gallop.

OOC goes here! / For Shaw

Niro listened and watched as Heath checked the horse, making a mental note to do such a thing if he decided to go off alone on a horse, which wouldn’t be soon, he was still a little antsy and knew he’d need quite a few more lessons before he was fit to actually ride a horse by himself. He listened to Heath’s directions before he got on o the horse, when Heath seemed to be finished Niro got onto the saddle, this time his first try succeeded well, he sat on her, feeling her switch her feet around, and saw her ears go back, he gave her a few good praises, knowing he’d asked for a lot just by carrying him. He didn’t want to confuse the poor mare than he had already, he kept his legs loose letting them lay limply along the stirrups. He hopefully wouldn’t scare the horse again when they tried, she seemed to be as calm as she had been before he did whatever it was that had made her balk. He liked her, maybe if he was able to really get going he’d see if he could keep her, but then again this might be a horse that was for everyone, something just to start with, he wasn’t sure he never had a horse before, although if he had a trained bird and he was training another wolf, he’d try not to confuse the bird, and keep it to the same trainer, but this horse was probably many different wolves riding her. He wasn’t sure. He waited, letting him feel every movement the horse made as he awaited Heath’s next instructions.

Perhaps Heath had over estimated Niro’s comfort, or maybe he had been careless. Heath did not blame student or horse, the startle of the mare was his fault. He hadn’t seen the signs, that would have been plain as day if he had cared to look for them. A horse didn’t hide its feelings, especially not this one, and Heath hadn’t been looking. This time would be different though, and he stayed close rather then stepping back to observe from afar.

The pale male sat and just relaxed on her back. The Marshal let them get reacquainted, nodding as he praised the horse when she seemed uneasy but soon they bother seemed comfortable. It was important that they got used to each other, just like any other partnership. When he thought it right Heath gave yet another few seconds, his own body language was loose and relaxed in the hopes of giving the pair confidence. Now, gently squeeze your legs and keep the reins loose and she’ll move forward. Heath spoke, keeping himself from tensing or flinching.

WC:--- OOC: we can wrrrap this up Big Grin

Niro’s heart was finally calming down now, and he was feeling more confidant that the horse and himself would make a good team, as long as he knew what he was doing in the process. He listened to Heath’s words and did as Heath had told him, this time she started forward in a walk, which, to Niro, was a MUCH better pace. He swayed back and forth as he had when heath led the ropes but he was conscious of what his hands and his feet were doing. He didn’t want to make her startle again. When he had his fill he looked over at Heath.

I think this is enough for today, I’ve had quite a bit of excitement.

and even though his fall had made his headache slightly worse, he couldn’t seem to feel it anymore. Which was the point of this whole exercise, well also to learn how to ride a horse, which Niro though was better than a hang over by far. Maybe someday he could ride one without any instruction, but for now he’d keep learning from Heath before he tried anything too big.

good here?

Heath watched with a much keener eye then before. He stayed close, a hand on the horse so that she knew that he was there beside her, and walked with them as Niro got comfortable. The Marshal knew how important it was for the male to get back up and on the horse after he fell and was glad that he had. The morning’s discussion no longer distracted the coy-wolf, and he was focused on the task at hand.

Later in the day he would wonder how Niro would feel after riding the horse, for the tasked used muscles that simply walking on the ground did not strain. But he figured that after the rough night he would be happy to think about something else. Heath gave him a nod, Pull back on the reins to stop her. Not too hard, or she walk backwards. Heath explained. The mare slowed at the other’s soft command and they came to a halt.

The back armed male gave an encouraging smile, You did well. A few more lessons and you’ll be ready to ride on your own. Heath was confident that his pack mate would excel after a few more trials. With a teacher things went so much better, for Heath had to learn on his own. But of course he had Lumière to teach him, and she had been patient and calm while he learned. Heath took the reins, ready to lead her to the stables where he would teach him to groom her and put her back for the night properly.
