WC:695 (5 Points) OOC: well hope you don’t mind this beginning, it is a little to read but hey <3 <3 yay for reading hehehe

Niro had been excited, he was planning on a big hunt, it was not today but he was planning it for the next day. Today he’d try to finish up Tobias’ training, and hope for the best. The bird was still a novice, but he was learning tracking, and that made Niro happy. Marahute and the hawk seemed to have a neutral stand point with one another. He couldn’t ask for much… the younger bird was younger, yet almost twice as big as the small hawk was, but that was her nature, she was suppose to grow… and she would continue to do so for a good year or two. He wasn’t sure, but she was starting to grow nearly too big for his shoulder, but she found a good way to hold on… which meant he had to make a leather shoulder pad so he didn’t have scars for the rest of his life from where his companion speared him with her talons. Which were now quite large and rather lethal. She’d grown longer feathers now that he noticed it, as they were outside in the pasture. It was after the horses were brought back into the stables. He didn’t like making them nervous he respected them and knew Heath would strangle him if he got his horses stressed out. Niro made a defining whistle and Tobias responded. Marahute watched from Niro’s shoulder, she was shouldering her wings, but couldn’t flap them without hitting Niro’s head… it didn’t feel very good to either bird or wolf. She watched with either jealousy or awe as the hawk did his dives and his exercised that Niro had taught him. Suddenly Marahute jumped off Niro’s shoulder. He wasn’t too worried until he noticed she hadn’t just glided down to the ground… his bird… his chick was flying!!! He felt his heart race as he watched the bird flying up into the sky. His heart leapt, in happiness and fear… fear that she might fly away and never return… or fear that she might suddenly not fly anymore and just fall, but that last one was not something he worried about much. She was a great glider, so even if she didn’t understand flying like she should have, he was sure she knew how to use her wings to glide to safety. He saw her as she flew away from Tobias who seemed rather vexed at her being up in his air space, and she seemed to take it personally.

Niro hurried to keep up with her, he even had to change forms to chase her down. His belt dangled around his waist but that didn’t matter to him right now and its hindrance was ignored. He wasn’t sure if he was afraid she’d never return… although he knew that fledglings did return for a while, or that she would find a way to injure herself. He ran a while until… he found himself staring at his eagle next to Anann’s house… on the branch where she had sat watching them work on the building so long ago. He was still proud of the work, but right now that wasn’t on his mind. He changed back into his luperci form. he held out his arm to her, and she made a few light noises… like she was proud of herself and glided to his arm. He was relieved.

You gave me a good fright little one!

Niro exclaimed stroking his eagles head. He had to catch his breath because he learned…Eagles were faster than he thought… so yeah now he had his work cut out for him. As soon as he’d taken a breath he would head back and get Tobias… but even he had wanted to follow Marahute… it was a small gathering of birds at Anann’s house and he hoped he didn’t disturb her at all, he held out his other for Tobias and smiled at him. The bells on the hawk’s legs jingled as he flew to Niro.

You did good, I’m proud of both of you

He said, still feeling winded and sat down, trying to let his breath catch up with his heart.

The weathered and worn book was small for the golden furred hand that held it. Her thumb still stuck between the pages, keeping her spot, Anann stared at her cabin from her seat in the shade. She leaned back against the trunk of the tree. She had read the book many times. Several of the lines were memorized. Still she read it faithfully to keep its words and lessons fresh in her mind. This evening however, she was finding it difficult to focus on the printing on the weathered pages. Instead her mind kept wandering away and seeming to always find a way to make it to thoughts of the Russian brunette.

Anann had realized from the start that she was attracted to the large man. It might have started as something that was purely physical. As he was not for the first nor the last man she had found attractive since she no longer was bound to her promise of betrothal. The more time she spent with him, the more she found herself thinking about him when he wasn't around. Perhaps it was odd at her age that these feelings were foreign to her and she did not know what to make of them. Having been betrothed to another at a young age, Anann had never given herself the freedom of letting her heart decide what (or rather whom) she had wanted. What she wanted had never mattered before. And it was not so much her own feelings that puzzled her, but whether or not they were returned.

Her thoughts on her own feelings and the possible feelings of Anatoliy were interrupted. The large wings of the raptor were nearly silent as the creature landed on a near by branch. It hadn't seemed that long since Anann had last seen Marahute, but it seemed the chick had grown quite a lot since that time and she was hardly recognizable. Still there was little doubt who the fledgling was and the silver wolf that arrived only moments later only confirmed that it was indeed Niro's golden eagle. The mohawked male looked as if he had seen a ghost and was panting from his run. A smile spread across Anann's maw as she watched the scene unfold. It was obvious she had gone unnoticed this far. First flight? Anann called out to Niro as he sat to catch his breath and she arose from her own spot in the shade.

When Anann spoke Niro’s head shot up at the sound, but his sudden scare turned to be a warm smile. She’d been so close by and he hadn’t seen her, he stood up, feeling rather bad for just sitting on his friend’s property.

Yeah, she just took off out of nowhere… I think she was jealous of Tobias.

Niro said smiling at the bird, petting her head and feeling relieved that he caught up to the… well she wasn’t so little anymore, now a good size bigger than the hawk she barely fit on his shoulder and soon she wouldn’t fit on it at all.

I think she liked it here. I don’t know why she came though. I suppose there will be twice as much training in my day than normal.

Niro said smiling at the thought. He loved being busy and the busier he was the happierd. He looked at what Anann was doing and could imagine Orin getting excited about it. He liked books but he wouldn’t get the excitement his sister would.

What is it that you are reading?

Niro asked looking to see if he could get a glimpse of the book she had in her hand. He was mostly use to hearing it was some odd tale, a thing his sister found, or he'd find. He rarely saw anyone else reading so this was a new thing for him, to see a wolf sitting with a book in their hands, that wasn't him or his sister, though he knew of only one book that he had with him at all times, which was his little falconry book that he used referencing from. there were days where he'd read it and it would all be what he needed, even if he'd read it thousands of times.

Table by Gen

"Bit jumpy, are we?" She said, rather amused at his startled reaction. She certainly hadn't meant to surprise him. He had seemed quite concerned when he had first showed up but that was fading away to something more akin to relief and perhaps a bit of pride. "I can't believe how fast she has grown and flying already!"

Anann had taken a lot of time in choosing the location of her home. There was just something about this spot, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She just knew that she found it peaceful and relaxing, everything she wanted home to be. "I like sitting up in that tree myself, the world seems a little more serene from up there." Perhaps that was all his little, well okay not so little, bird had wanted. "How is the training going?" She had wondered about his progress with his birds, she just hadn't seen him around lately to ask.

The book in her clutched in her hand had practically been forgotten. She gave Niro a confused look at first, before realizing what he was talking about. "Oh, 'The Book of Five Rings', it is an ancient text about martial arts and military strategy." It was not as boring and dull as it sounded. The copy that Anann owned was not nearly as ancient as the original that was written early in human history. Like the books of the old religions, it had been printed many times over and spread across the world. "Though to be honest, I was more lost in my thoughts than actually reading. She had trouble with such things a lot rather recently. It seemed there must always be something to plague her mind. Whether it be thoughts of regret and remorse for her choice to leave her home land or trying to decipher the feelings of her heart. Or was it merely lust?

WC: 384 (3 Points) OOC: I still call niro a dork hehehe

He shrugged sheepishly when she teased him, giving her the well, it could happen to anyone eyes. Niro couldn’t help but beam with pride as she mentioned how big the eagle was getting. He couldn’t believe it eather, the eagle didn’t look like the chick hit had been only months before.

I know, I can’t believe it either. It’s all surreal to me honestly.

He admitted, he watched as Marahute, now with more confidence glided from the tree to the ground next to Anann. She tilted her head almost sideway’s, something that Niro always found so interesting. He didn’t know what she wanted, she barely even knew Anann. Shrugging at the training question he averted his eyes back at his friend.

It has been taking backwards steps, Tobias is challenging me, and Marahute and him aren’t getting along to well, but I can deal with all of it at least. So far though.

He said, he hated to admit such a qualm, but that was where things stood. Tobias didn’t listen to him as he had only a few weeks ago, now he was sort of listening. Doing only part of the training. Niro knew this was a challenge, saying that Niro didn’t have what it took to train the bird, but he would hold fast and do even more work to make things go the way he thought they should.

They have books on martial arts?!

He asked, looking at the book in her hands. He knew that martial arts was self defense, he’d learned that from his sister but wasn’t that like moving of the hands and feet, how could that all be explained in a book? Well, he knew just about everything had been written in books long ago. Orin had plenty of them to show for it, well use to. The thought of his sister made his fur rise. He was not happy with her, as he’d not seen her in a while. He made him think of something else.

What can a book say about martial arts?

He asked curiously. He liked books, not as much as his sister… there he went again thinking about his sister. He had to ruffle his own fur to stop, and didn’t think about what Anann would say to him for it.

Anann was a little surprise as Marahute left her perch and landed next to her. Looking down at the young eagle, Anann imitated the tilt of her head, a silly grin on her face. She then showed her empty palm to the bird, something she assumed would be a universal sign of peace, before she reached out to stroke the bird's head with gentle finger. Anann often wore her belt with a satchel of dried meat attached, as she did this day. Reaching to her hip she opened the pouch with deft fingers and pull a small strip of meat from its interior. She tossed Niro a look, making sure the treat would be alright before she offered it to the bird. Admittedly, the beak and talons of the bird were rather intimidating and while Anann trusted the bird, she kept a sharp eye and was ready to keep her digit out of harms way.

It seemed that all young creatures grew at an astonishing rate. It was true for her wolfen kin as well as the birds kept by her pack mate. Anann had learned from working with horses that they shared many of the same life stages as wolves. The early youth was when they learned the easiest and eventually they would reach an age when they would begin to test the boundaries and limits that had been set before them. Some would simply bend the rules, others would not be satisfied until they were broken. Anann doubted that the bond Niro shared with his eagle would be shattered as she grew and aged. While she might eventually seek solitude from time to time, just as Rem did. However, the Tobais was not a hatchling and it seemed he was already testing Niro's dominance and Anann nodded understandingly. "He is testing his boundaries, seeing what he can get away with and what the consequences are. At least thats my guess." Perhaps if it was horses that the silver male was working with Anann would have some real advice for him, but as it were she had no clue how he went about his training.

Anann was great amused at Niro's reaction the subject of her book. Mostly because his question was a fully valid one. "Quite a lot surprising, although very little about actually learning the arts." No, the book was not capable of teaching anyone how to fight. "It is more about mental aspect of training and combat rather than the stances and motions of fighting." Without opening the cover of the book or bringing before her eyes she began to quote from it. "Pay attention to the mind, not the body. Let there be neither insufficiency nor excess in your mind. Even if superficially weakhearted, be inwardly stronghearted, and do not let others see into your mind." It was just one of many tokens of wisdom to be found within the small, simply written volume.

He watched Anann pet her, feeling a sense of pride at how nice the bird was, and saw her produce some food. He smiled and nodded,

Hold your palm flat that way she doesn’t get your fingers

he said, demonstrating, holding his palm out straight and pointed to the highest part of his palm, indicating where she should put the food.

That is what I suspected myself. I do hope that soon Tobias will know I’m his alpha and things would be so much easier just to listen.

He said. He never expected his job to be easy, and as he was one of the few who knew about the birds it was rather hard to get on a good footing, and the fact he was just starting out wasn’t any better. Upon explaining what was written in the book he started to understand now. It was mostly for mentality it seemed.

So I guess that isn’t just for fighting, those are some powerful words.

he said he had remembered her promise to teach him some self defense moves. He knew how to defend himself, but he’d rather be even more prepared, these days of peace were all he could cling to but he didn’t want to be caught with his back turned. Thinking on those words he thought he would have a lot of training to do to even be ready mentally for such a thing, although there was much

Maybe you could teach me something now? That is, if I’m not bothering you. If you want I can teach you something about the birds. You do seem to have a good amount of knowledge already, I think it’s because of the horses. They are much like the birds, but there’s differences of course.

He was glad he had found Anann he was able to get whatever he had off his mind. His excitement for her flight made him forget his prior frustrations with Tobias and Tobias had made him focus on what he was doing so he didn’t get the time to think about all that had happened to him.

The small volume clutched in the honey-hued woman's hand was indeed full of a words of wisdom that could be applied to many different aspects of life. Ancient to even the race that had ruled before the wolves, the book had been used by many for guidance through the ages and in many different languages. "Yes, the words in this book speak far beyond their original intent, or so I believe," she responded to Niro's comment to her citation. "Though they offer little guidance for matters of the heart." The last line spoken in a softer and quieter tone. A slight shadow of sadness falling over her features as her mind slipped back to prior thoughts of Anatoliy, she still hadn't seen him after he had left her cabin some weeks ago.

When Niro first mentioned her teaching him something, Anann was quite sure what he was talking about. Her brow furrowing slightly in puzzlement. Though it only took her a second to remember her offer to teach him some self-defense when they had first met. That day had ended in a different lesson. Instead she had taught him how to make leather gloves. Which had probably been more use as of late than self defense training would have been. She was glad for the offered distraction though, sure that it would keep her thoughts more focused on the present. "Of coarse! You're no bother at all." She gave a wave of her hand, dismissing the very notion. "And I'd love to learn something about the birds. You've got a deal!"

Anann went and set her book down safely within her cabin, leaving Niro to tend to his birds and tether them if necessary. "So what are you wanting to learn? Want to start with learning some holds and how to get out of them or more how to throw a decent punch?" She had no clue what sort of knowledge Niro might already have on the subject or just what he was looking for, but she had little doubt that she would be able to teach him a thing or two.

ooc...

At first it seemed that Anann was lost in thought but soon she came to, and accepted the trade. He grinned as she went to go put her book away, as he moved to put the birds on a low hanging limb he could tell the female was distracted, he was too, and he’d rather think about something like what Anann would teach him, or his falconry than what was going on right now, he wasn’t going to beat himself up for whatever happened. The events that happened so recently hadn’t seemed to settle in, he wasn’t even sure if he had made a mistake, but before he could delve into that problem Anann came back out. Asking him what he wanted to learn.

I think learning how to get out of holds would be better suited for me for now

He said, a soft smile on his face now. He was no longer bird laden and he was ready to learn whatever Anann could teach him. He wasn’t sure what she was going to teach him, he’d known how to get out of a hold of another, but she might have something that would be easier, less taxing, though he wasn’t about to get into a fight with anyone ever again, it seemed like good practice. Something to keep his mind on, broaden his muscle tone, and if anything really did ever happen, he’d even have to remember this by practicing, just as he’d seen her do so in the field the day he’d met her. He knew he couldn’t get one thing right just by doing it only a few times. He waited for her to tell him what to do, staring expectantly at her.

OOC here!

"Alright then. Stretch your arms and neck out a bit and we will get down to the fun." A bit of a devious grin stretched across the fem's maw. It was best to learn by doing. Such things took practice and repetition to be of much use when you actually needed them. Not typically having the time to think about the process. Anann stretched her own arms and neck out. "I figure we will start with some arm holds and such and see how that goes." She didn't know how much experience Niro had. He didn't seem at all like a fighter, but she highly doubted he was defenseless. It never hurt to brush up on those skills. In the honey hued woman's opinion everyone should be taught at least the very basics of defending themselves.

To the side of her home there was spot in the shade where the grass showed quite a bit of wear, as it was were Anann tended to train. The ground was fairly level and shaded by the wide spreading branches of a couple old trees. She had Niro stand near the center and she stood behind him. "Well start with something basic. Relax and don't resist yet." The best way out of hold was to not get into it in the first place, but you had to get there to learn how to get out. She passed her arm under his, and locked her hand behind his neck. Anann had read that humans had called it half nelson for whatever reason. "Okay, get out of it." Testing what he already knew, she wanted to see what he'd do and take the lesson from there.

Niro had never stretched in his life, so when she told him to he could only stand there.he had to improvise quickly and that’s all he could do for now. He then proceeded to following Anann to her practice area. She then stood behind him and spoke, he listened and let her take a hold of him. It was a new sensation, to being choke holded by a friend, even though she was not putting the pressure an enemy would be. Telling him to get out of it, he tried pulling her arms up out of the hold, he was actually more afraid of hurting her, than her thinking that he was a moron. Which right now he was being as he backed up a few times and tried to throw her over his shoulder, but as she was directly behind him he didn’t have that leverage, the only other things were to actually hit, and he was too afraid to do that, he didn’t want to hurt her.

short short xD

Niro made a few pathetic attempts to get out of the hold, though nothing that Anann considered even truly trying. He was awkward and unsure. "You can do better than that." And obviously too concerned about what he might do to her in the process. Each failed attempt her grip on him tightened. He was slightly taller than her but roughly they were the same size. "Don't be gentle, fool. I'm a trained fighter, remember? I can take your beating." Her words were gruff and annoyed, thought under that there hide a teasing tone. She tightened her grip a little further, though she supposed it was doing little more than making Niro a little uncomfortable.

He listened as she spoke, she was right he wasn’t trying hard enough. He nodded, as she seemed to be taunting him, that did get his own blood flowing, he didn’t try to think about hurting her, though he would use restraint, he was not one to hit a woman even in practice. He picked up his foot and let it hit her toes, and he started to struggle a little more twisting this way and that enough to try to get out of it. He frowned, though he’d hit her foot, he knew he didn’t hit it hard enough he doubted that would make her let go too, and though he had great pride in his own abilities he sighed in defeat.

I can’t get out off it.

He said finally, hoping that she’d tell him a good way of actually getting out of a hold that got his hands mostly useless.

totally don't know what I'm talkin bout, let me know if I need to change anything xD

Her words had been a little harsh, but they did seem to help motivate Niro to try a little harder. Her grip tightening now out of need to keep her hold on the male, rather than just to make his attempt to escape it more serious. He even went as far to step on her foot. She was proud of him for taking an offensive move but it wasn't enough and the contact only elicited a slight grunt from the woman.

It was easy for Anann to tell when someone was holding back and Niro was obviously not giving it his all. The mohawked male giving up with a sigh. It was blow to the warrior's pride, through she tried not to take it personally. If she was male she doubted Niro would have near as much trouble and while perhaps it shouldn't, it bothered her that her gender had any bearing on the out come of this lesson at all. Had this been a training ring back home she would have thrown Niro to the ground in disgust and push him as far as necessary for him to fight back. However, that was then and this was now, and Anann needed no reminding that this was a different life compared to the one she'd left behind.

Though the major disadvantage came to light at Niro's request. Her faced scrunched in a frown as she stood behind him, her arms still keeping in the hold. It was going to be a little more difficult for her to show him how to get out of and keep him held at the same time. She was really starting to think this would go better if she had Haven's assistance, but they would make do for now. "Well, if you weren't concerned about you harming you holder, I suggest an elbow to the ribs." Though the way things were going Anann figured it was quite unlikely Niro was going to resort to that, against her at least. "Use my leverage against me." She moved the hand that wasn't ran under his arm and behind his neck, touching the shoulder of the arm she had restrained. "Push back with this shoulder while trying to pull the other away from me. If you can get off to the side you can possibly get out or reverse the hold."

Hehe I am going on a limb here and hopefully made it sound like I knew what is going on… LMAO, though I wasn’t sure what you meant, just playing it by the ear myself, I’m horrible at picturing things sometimes lol.

He could hear her exasperation of his hesitance to hurt her. He felt bad but he didn’t like hurting fellow members, he’d probably be the same even if it were a male, though he may have been a bit rougher he’d never intentionally try to hurt any of his friends, though he barated himself that he couldn’t learn if he didn’t actually do it. He mentally noted the elbow in the ribs and then did as she tol him, pulling one way with his shoulder and the other the opposite, trying to pull her over him. It worked… sort of, he managed to get her off her feet but in so had made her choke hold slightly worse and he fell to his knees.

Don’t think that worked… let me try again./b>

He said, and pulled himself up… and with all his might he used her technique to get out of her hould.

close enough. xD can we go on to bird training soon? I'd like a more up to date thread soon! <333

Niro did his best to follow her instructions, but without being able to show him he seemed to slightly misunderstand her. Still with his first attempt he almost was able to break free from her and would have had she not strengthened her hold on him. Giving it a second attempt he finally pulled free from her. Even if it wasn't quite the method she had intended it he had made it work in the end. "Not quite what I meant, but same basic idea. And you got free." She said with a smile, though she was feeling rather frustrated. She felt the lesson should have gone smoother and that perhaps she was lossing her touch. It was hard to think it had been over a year now since she had left Tosawi. It was always the training yard she found herself missing.

"Want me to show you a few others?" This time she would demonstrate how to break them before putting him in the holds to try and get out of. It would make things go easier and faster. She had her reasons for not doing it that way with the first one, but that hurdle was out of the way now.

OOC: We can end with your post, pp allowed :3

Niro could tell Anann was feeling plenty disappointed, but he was not one to touch anyone harmfully on purpose without a real cause not even to a male. He nodded, at least he did get out, though it wasn’t the way she was trying to teach him.

If you could, that would be nice, I’m sure I’ll get something right.

He said, he was feeling like a slight failure right now just because he wouldn’t hit her like she was really attacking him.

Anann was frustrated far more with herself than the gray male, but she reminded herself that it had been a test as well, to see what he might already know. It had certainly showed her that her typical method wasn't going to work well with the current situation at all. All she could do was change her method of teaching a bit and hope things went better.

She would show him a few more holds, there were all fairly generic grabs that an untrained fighter would be likely to use. She started by showing him the holds first and explaining their strengths and weaknesses. It was just as important to know what not to as what to do. Then she would let him put her in the hold so she could better show him how to get out of it before reversing their positions and letting him try a couple times.

Explaining things more thoroughly seemed to help a lot and the lesson went much quicker and smoother than the start had went. The afternoon was starting to grow late as they finished, Anann took a rain check on a lesson with the birds since they would be hunting tomorrow. There was no need to risk any of them being tired as a hunt could be risky enough as it was.
