Tumbling and Rumbling

His mouth opened wide, small pointed teeth showing as he gave a roar of a yawn. It was early and he was hunting rabbits. He needed to be quiet, sit very still in the tall grass in the fields beyond his home. He had never ventured so far from the Manor, but his paws had just kept going and going until they brought him here. Rabbits like grass, the tall kind so that they could hide. But what they didn’t know what that Alder could hide too, he could sink very low and creep among the stands just like they did.

His tummy didn’t grumble, and he had no intention of truly hunting the small voiceless creatures. But he wanted to meet one, and had been trying for some time now. It had been days since he had seen one in the orchard of garden, ever since Cypress had scared them off. Now he traveled here, sitting among the blades and random bushes and wildflowers.

Maybe if he waited so very quiet and still they would just come walking right up to him. He liked it best when other wolves did not walk right up to him, and when they allowed him to look them over and see if they were friendly or not. Not everyone was nice, and not everyone wanted to meet him. And he was embarrassed so easily, and so shy that Alder liked it when they were friendly and eager to meet him, but not so forward that he was frightened. So he just sat, ears moving this way and that atop his dark accented head, listening to the nothingness that filled the field.

His blue eyed closed slightly, drooping and he was warm under the summer sun and so suddenly drowsy. His head leaned forward as he waited for the bunnies to appear. Eyelids so heavy that he just couldn’t possibly keep them open.
