When hiding becomes seeking

Denali Big Grin

Alder sat in the grass, blue eyes looking up at the sky. He had grown tall in the past weeks, sprouting upwards as well as out in such a short time. He was gangly and his legs felt far too long for his round body. Ears were not strong, and flapped when he ran too fast and his paws were so big that he still tripped over them at times. Such clumsiness made him more apt to sit and reflect, his adventurous nature was still so mild anyhow. He didn’t need to seek far away lands to find adventure, he could simply look up and watch the clouds pass by and imagine all sorts of things and creatures within their cotton ball fluff. Or he would play in the garden, still letting his mind travel off so that he could pretend to be someone or something else.

But today he looked up, naming the animals that he saw in the white clouds. There were a few made of gray, some that spoke of rain. It wasn’t in the air he concluded having learned how to smell it out, but that did not guarantee a rainless day, his mother had taught him. So that yougth did not ignore the dark clouds but simply put them out of his thoughts momentarily so that he could get back to his game. More often then not he found a bunny hopping from one cloud to the other. Or he saw a hippo eating a boat or a horse riding an elephant. The masked pup’s neck was starting to strain and he twisted it with the hopes of unknotting the muscles. But it was better then getting lost in territories his mother hadn’t shown him yet, or meeting a stranger and trying to figure out what to say to them. He liked the quiet, and pretended to like his solitude.

Denali found something so totally awesome that he had to show someone, and his first thoughts went right straight to Alder, who didn’t normally get around often. He wanted to get the younger pup out and about, and he wanted to go to this place with someone else, it was a little too scary to go alone, but even with a puppy who was younger than him would mae him braver, he knew it. He raced to the hotel, where he interrupted all the quiet.

ALDER ALDER ALDER ALDER!!!

He yelled trying to see if he could catch the pup’s attention, and thus find him, but he didn’t even have to yell, there sitting in the grass looking up into the clouds was Alder, resting quite peacefully, that didn’t stop Denali from running at him and pouncing on him, making the pup roll over.

You won’t guess what I’ve found!

He said, his tail wagging furiously, with excitement and anticipation. He’d never guess in a million years!!!

lulz

A cow, running with a crow on his back. He looked frightened with his mouth open like he was scared of the crow. Or maybe they were running together, from the large angry looking rain cloud that traveled behind them. Alder couldn’t decide what it was, but he looked at the cloud and his ears fell back with concern. Then, there was something in the distance. Like the cow was calling for him, or was it the crow that had sort of turned into a possum now that screamed his name. Alder’s ears turned forward again in the hopes of hearing them right, but it was coming from behind…

Something hit him. He was on the ground with a high pitched shriek and the round large boned youth turned over on the ground and tried to scramble onto his paws so that he would flee. But the brown mass held him down and spoke to him with a frantic and excited tone. What? What?! He called, his speech clear as he had matured in the last few weeks. It was Denali, his friend, yet Alder did not like to be surprised at all.

He could see the surprise and fear in the other’s eyes, but right now that didn’t matter what mattered was his news!!

I’ve found… a ghost town! Know what that means?!

He asked moving aside so that Alder could get up, Denali could tell Alder was filling out just like he was now, even though Denali was still slightly bigger than him. What happens if Alder grows larger than Denali? What would he do then?

It means we can find treasure!! Come on, we gotta go look, can’t just sit here all day!

He said urging Alder to come follow him. Alder was his best friend and Denali couldn’t do this alone, so he HAD to have the boy come with him! He was over excited though and he wanted to go as soon as possible so he was dancing on his feet hoping beyond hope that Alder would agree.

Alder looked back at the lighter pup. His eyes were wide, jaw slacked slightly and he wasn’t sure what this really meant. But he had heard a particular word. Ghost Alder stared at the sandy and brown male, getting to his paws before he spoke, and as Denali chattered excitedly. Alder sat, ears still smooth against his head and he wasn’t sure what to do. Ah ghost town? he spoke, wanting to make sure that he had heard correctly. He hadn’t hear anything about a town within the pack’s lands, and his mother had never told him if he could go to one. The pup felt the urge to go and ask her, but that would seem like he was still a baby and couldn’t do what ever he wished, not like he was overly excited about being scared by ghosts.

Denali could see the reaction was not a good one when Denali mentioned ghost, it didn’t seem to bode the other pup well and Denali hastened to make sure Alder knew it wasn’t haunted.

My old mommy told me that an empty town was called a ghost town cause there was no one in it, there’s no ghosts I promise!

He said knowing that, or hping at least, he would make a move to come, Denali was confident that his mommy now wouldn’t mind, because it was still just in the borders, but he wanted to look and find treasure so bad right now. He just couldn’t do it alone or she would really have a fit. Not to mention he didn’t want to go all by his lonesome and Alder was the best candidate, why? Cause Denali thought it was so.

This was scary, Alder felt as he looked at the other boy. he knew that there were so many other wolves that were braver then he was. His brothers for sure, as well as his big brother Haven. Momma wasn't scared of anything, or so he felt. The world seemed like it was just filled with creatures that were more courageous then he felt he could be. He didn't like that he felt so alone in the idea that he was timid and a scaredie-cat. Alder wanted to be brave, and though wanting to be so and actually being braver were two very different things, he listened to Denali's explanation and felt that it wasn't such a horrible thing.

If his mind wasn't so very jumbled and conflicted he would have caught the notion of an Old mother, but the masked pup just wasn't thinking straight and he looked to the ground as he considered the idea. Denali seemed a bit more sensitive to his unease, and Alder felt duly appreciative and embarrassed that he needed this extra consideration. The only thing that he could do to remedy this was to nod his head (which he did) and gather a little bit of determination. He could be brave, or do brave things!

Okay He said, and started to follow the other pup.

WC: 312 OOC: YAY my first 300 post in a while hahaha

He got a positive answer from the pup and that’s all Denali needed to know before trotting off, the younger, yet almost bigger wolf would follow. Denali liked being able to coax any of his friends to do things with him. It made him happy! He trotted down the trail of is own scent in which he came running at Alder from. He didn’t step foot in the village, he didn’t want to admit to himself he had been slightly scared, and he’d never ever admit it to his friends either. He was a proud wolf. He trotted excitedly for a while, because it did take that long just to get to the silly place, and he wondered why some of the wolves didn’t come and live here. Here was the village, near the edge of the borders but still on safe ground that Denali had no problems walking in… with some one else of course, he’d been in a ghost town before and he’d have been scared if his old mommy and daddy were not there with him. Now he had alder.

See? It’s just quiet! Look at all the houses!

He said in a quieted voice, but not a whisper, then he put his nose to the ground and found a random house… one that actually had a little door that puppies could fit in! it looked like it was for the adults too, he could see whatever it was that made the door was rather ruined, but he was curious. He wouldn’t go in if Alder didn’t want to though, he looked at the masked pup and gave him a reassuring smile.

Wanna go in this one? It’s got a door just for us!

the thought it was the size for a puppy was a reassuring thought, who would make something like it if it wasn’t made for them?

Alder followed, and that was fairly easy. He was one that followed well, and he even pretended for a little while that he was following Mother. Though when ever he looked up he saw that it wasn’t Anu his momma that he trotted behind but the pup. He looked mainly at the ground, eyeing the grass or the dirt that passed beneath him. It wasn’t that long of a walk, though Alder’s thoughts made the time pass fairly quickly and when they arrived he noticed that he was a bit tired from the little stroll.

Denali walked right onto the ground of the small gathering of buildings and Alder walked right behind him, not noticing much. He looked up, and saw where they had come to and paused in mid step. The other boy spoke, telling him that it was merely quiet. His masked eyes looked around, and ink dipped paws stayed rooted to the ground and unmoving. Denali didn’t stop, moving away and Alder had to run to keep close to his friend. He didn’t want to be left alone here! Ears were plastered on his head as the braver wolf wandered with little worry. The tree named male said nothing, and when they got to the house that Denali thought was just for them he looked at it with a big gulp.

He gave a nod, his voice stolen and tongue caught. He wasn’t sure what to say anyways. Alder couldn’t help but feel fearful, it just happened so naturally. But he didn’t want to be left outside if Denali was going to go inside. Blue eyes looked a the other boy, he smiled and Alder managed to find some sort of reassurance from the small grin. It was only quiet and they hadn’t met any ghosts yet. Maybe they wouldn’t, maybe what Denali said was true and it was simply silent here.

WC:319 OOC: the mask is actually blue :3 there’s a link in Denali’s profile ^^

He could see the fear in the other male, he pretended not to notice but made a mental note that if he wasn’t any more comfortable when they were inside, then he’d leave entirely, but he was so curious as to what a house on the inside looked like. He moved in first, knowing the other puppy would be behind him, and inside he saw nothing but a mess. Things of all kinds were scattered all over the place, the things he thought were decorations were sitting on their sides, and the walls were ripped up, he wondered what had lived here and why, he took an apprehensive step inside, his ears flipped up to hear anything, and make sure he really wasn’t trespassing in an owned house. There was nothing though. He sniffed around, wow there really was treasure here!! It wasn’t something he’d want now but he kept looking. His tail wagged furiously as he moved to the next room which was just as messy, he saw many things that were broken, and then something caught his eye and he had to look twice, underneath a broken old chair was something that glittered, it was a dark grey in color and he moved to it, wow! It was pretty, he picked it up with his mouth and saw it was a mask, of a cat or something. He liked it.

Hey alder! Look!

he flipped the mask over and saw the band that was on it had been preserved, he slid his head inoto it and it lay on the back of his head. It fit nice and snug, he liked it, he looked at Alder to see what the pup thought, he liked it in any case, he’d bring it home with him no matter what, he was getting anxious to look for more treasures. He wanted to make sure Alder was alright first though.

He crept inside, making sure not to touch the door or the frame as he passed through. Blue eyes blinked, once then twice to get used to the darkness of the room. He looked at the floor first, scanning it and making sure there wasn't any glass (as his mother had advised him). He kelp close to Denali, though he didn't touch him in case the other pup didn't want to the contact Alder felt the urge to cling to the other's side. He settled for following his tail.

He looked up, letting his eyes scan around the room bravely. There was a chance that he might see something scary lurking around on of the corners or behind something. But there just seemed to be many dusty things. His little black nose moved around as he scented the air, working to see if there was anything alive among the human things that were scattered around. Blue eyes were caught but something hanging on the wall, it's colored faded but still dazzling to the pup. He didn't know what it was, but when Denali spoke his name he found it hard to look away. He paused, allowing the silence to fill the room once again before speaking a lazy, Yeah? and then turned his head to see the cat that not stood in front of him where Denali had once been standing.

Alder jumped, but his love for all creatures different then his own kind kept the scream from coming forth and a curiosity to replace his fear. He peered at the mask, seeing that the same eyes that belonged to Denali were living within the sockets of this new creature. It only took a moment before Alder was able to see that it was his pup friend and not a cat that he was looking at. Woahhhh... He spoke, disbelief in his voice.

ooc...

Denali liked his friends reaction, and thought it was a great treasure, but he couldn’t wear it like this , he shook his head where the mask seemed to pull down his neck, and it soon settled face up on the back of his neck for now. It was so big, he couldn’t use it as a hat right now, but his plans were to keep it on forever and ever. he then let his attention to his friend, he seemed as timid but he’d noticed there was some interest in the puppies eyes.

Did you find something too?

Denali asked, his interest for something other than himself peeked, as he looked around to see what it could be.

Alder really didn’t understand what the thing was. To wear a mask was not exactly something that the Dreamers saw often and his blue eyes looked through the eye holes to find his friend. What is et? He asked, sitting in place so that the movement of the other pup and the thing on his face would not confuse him entirely. Even the slightest of movements made his eyes do a small dance in their sockets, making him wonder where the blue thing ended and the pup began.

With the question Alder looked back to the wall unexpectedly, and then shook his head with a shut mouth. The thing was plastered to the wall, too high for either of the small wolves to reach and though he had thought for a moment about plucking it from the wall he knew that it was impossible. Not at least. Perhaps when he was older, and could shift like his mother he would be able to return and take it for a decoration in his own room. But for now, he would have to go without.

No He concluded, looking back at the pup.

ooc: If you want you can post again, or archive it, I felt this was gonna be a short thread anyway, unless you wanna have them play some Tongue but just know they will leave the village Wink

I dunno, it’s cool though!

Denali admitted to his friend, who seemed to not understand what it was. Denali only put it on how he thought it would go, but now that it was resting on the back of his neck, it felt like it belonged there more. With the pup denying he saw something of interest and his new treasure found, Denali suddenly found himself, well rather bored, he smiled at the now much braver pup, and knew he still wanted to go home very much.

He lets go home, we can go play tag with the others or something!

He suggested, he was glad the masked pup came with him, but it was time to go, and he wanted to leave before his curiosity got the better of him. He was feeling bad for pulling Alder into a place he really didn’t want to, but he must had needed to come here for the new treasure, for some reason he felt his day had truly been fulfilled… well not yet, after a good playtime, then his day would be fulfilled.

i'll close this up ^^

This place was filled with more things then Alder was ready to see and explore, and all of the new things were still a little overwhelming for the sensitive pup. The place was dark too, light only coming through the windows and cracks in the roof. He was grateful when the other pup spoke about returning home. Not knowing what the mask truly was did not concern him as much as leaving this place did. Alder knew what it was to be frightened, and though the true fear that had come to him earlier was not lightened he was still feeling a little uneasy and the thought of going home brought him a deep sense of relief that the pup couldn't help but want to feel more of.

Okay. He spoke, brightly more from the thought of returning to the familiar then the idea of playing tag with the others. But, he thought that it would be fun too, and Alder was happier then ever now that the plan was to leave the ghost town. His tail wagged lightly behind him, tawny ears sitting high on his head. Just as he followed the other lighter boy into the building Alder followed him out, meeting the fresh air with a smile.
