Cypress made his way around the banks of the lake. It was rare for him to come to it's shores alone, for momma had told him it was not safe to play in the water alone. Inevitably he had grown bored with exploring the garden and orchard day in and day out. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Sure there were plenty of cool and interesting things, but he felt he had explored all there was to explore close to the manor. He wanted to see something new and different today. It was time for his small world that encompassed the manor and its yard to expand. Even if only ever so slightly.
Everyone now and again he would scare a frog from the edge of the banks. Usually only seeing a flash of movement and plush sound as they dove in the water. He would stop and look, thin puppy tail just wagging away. He wanted to chase them, but he knew he would be in trouble for sure if he came back muddy and wet. While the frogs teased him just out of his reach, his ears perked at a strange sound. Bleating calls leading the curious pup towards the cottage.
There were several of the creatures around the cottage. Even some on top of it. Whoa, how did they get up? They were bigger than Cypress, but they weren't that big were they? Slipping easily under the wooden fence, he went in for a closer look. Most of the creatures seemed to just ignore the pup, a few fled. There was one though, that made Cypress laugh. Giving a shake of his horned head and a stomp of his foot. His flopping ears made the pup giggle. Cypress shook his own head and stomped a paw in imitation of the goat. Though it would seem the goat did not think it very funny at all. With its head down, it charged at the pup. With eyes wide, the pup quickly turned tail, just making to the fence before the goat, hearing the goat's head thud loudly against the board fence. Victorious in his escape, Cypress stuck his tongue out at the goat before it turned and trotted off.
