C WAT I DID THAR?!

Freak Oriel was a very grumpy fellow. Everything about his appearance said so – from his deeply furrowed brow, his hunched shoulders and his very pronounced frown right down to the way he was stomping through the field. He wasn't even sure why he was in such a bad mood. Maybe there wasn't a specific reason for it. He just knew that he'd woken in the morning with storm clouds hovering around him. And now as he stomped along, a glare upwards informed the male that there really were storm clouds above him! If there was anything Freak hated, it was rain. Well, he probably hated loads of things all over the place. But rain really did bother him. In hopes of calming down he'd gone for a long walk, putting as much distance between him and Ravyn as possible. It wasn't that he didn't want to see her or anything, he just didn't think it would be fair for her to have to deal with his grumpiness. So he'd pointed himself in the opposite direction of his mate and decided not to return until his mood improved. Now he was far away and from what he could see, nowhere near any shelter. If it started to rain now, he had no chance of getting back home without being soaked. He'd just get back completely wet and in an even more horrible mood. The smartest thing would be to keep moving in the direction he was already heading.

Ever since he was a puppy, Freak had used long walks as a means of calming himself down. It helped calm his nerves and it gave him opportunity to think. It also helped him keep his distance from Fear and the rest of his family. The longer Freak stayed away, the better his mood was. And the less he was beaten. He'd stray far and wide, his mind wandering almost as much as his paws did. A part of him would always be on the alert – careful to make sure no one had followed him. But for the most part, Freak's walks were always relaxing. It only got bad when he had to turn around and head back home. Despite how bad it was in Jasper Valley, he rarely spent nights away. He knew she'd never be able to show it, but his mother did worry about him. He'd always found that funny – Star worried that he would get hurt while running by himself, so she always told him to stay close. Which was where he was mostly likely to get beaten on. Resentful as he was, the male had never been able to bring himself to mention this to his mother.

Now his two Fears (both the feeling and his father) were long gone. Jasper Valley was a painful memory he didn't think of often. He had no intentions of going back and his life here was fine. But the walking's purpose remained the same. He felt himself relax as he moved briskly along, no longer stomping as much. He didn't even mind when the wind began to blow. Strong gusts came from behind him and swept through his fur, pushing it forward. It whistled in his ears and at first the male braced himself against its strength. But after a few moments of resistance, Freak decided to let the wind win and allowed it to sweep him forward in order to take him wherever it wanted.
