Dwindle and Fade

There was something about sunny days that made the grass look a little bit greener and the sky a lighter shade of blue. Clouds floated lazily across the azure surface, leaving trails of wispy white behind. If the sky were a screen, the clouds wouldn’t have made a difference to the player’s game behind them.

The youth was sprawled lazily, her back legs extended away from each other, exposing her stomach and lower abdomen to the air. Eye lids were lowered over bright, aqua irises behind an auburn dusted muzzle pointing towards her right shoulder.

Not far off grazed her golden steed, magnificent head lowered into the sage grass. His white mane trailed across his face, mingling with the long braid of his forelock. The girl had a similar look. Red hair was tamed back into a long braid ending tail length. She had given herself a trim about a week ago but already the bang she cropped around her face and swooped in front of her ears had grown past her cheeks. The youth liked the lankly, wild look her plethora of curls gave off. The strands curled even more dangerously than her tail.

A sweet breeze ruffled the feathers that were tied to the top of the braid. She had collected three more since she had been in Miracles territory, adding to her Mother’s spotted dove feather and the jay’s that was bluer than the sea.

Letting out a content sigh, the youth continued to lay still in the grass that swept around her ankles and shielded her from the more harsh rays that came from the afternoon sun.

And what had brought the pup to grassy field he was sniffing? Vibrant green blades were snorted up the black nostrils, causing a tickle in his nose with each breath. It smelled so nice, he couldn't stop himself from doing it again and again. Eventually, he sneezed, sending his young body onto his rump in surprise.

From his sitting position, he examined the area he had wandered into. Kambujiya hadn't been paying attention to his steps, simply following strange tracks he found nearby, almost like the small and curved moon in the sky but wider and rounder. They certainly weren't like tracks he had seen before, but they smelled a bit like the long-legged, wide-birthed quadrupeds in the stable. Horses, a creature as unfamiliar as the ocean. Kam smiled, proud at his deduction. Of course, they were horse tracks! They had to be, since they smelled like a horse. It was the first truly cohesive thought he had achieved, and his tail thudded against the ground in excitement.

He lingered in his praise for a moment longer before continuing on his trail, taking up a brisk trot deeper into the grassy area. Heavy paws crushed the delicate green blades to the ground as he trekked, pausing ever so often to get his bearings. Finally, the sight of his 'prey' came into view, head lowered to graze in the lush foliage. It was golden, a white mane trailing across his head, forelock braided. The sight was astounded to the young male who had seen horses for the first time only recently, and was still not quite used to them.

Anxiously, he inched forward, moving in a big arc around the horse. The bright glimpse of red caught his eye and turned his attention away, seeking out the source. From a distance, it appeared to be another wolf, auburn dusted coat of graying white standing against the vibrant green hue. His ears perked; since his invitation to the Cour des Miracles, he had become less reserved and sought to interact, especially with those who lingered alone. He wondered silently if the wolf was nice, slinking close to the ground as he trotted towards it. By the time he came upon the stranger, a female with her eyelids lowered, his stomach trailed along the ground.

The excitement he felt was nearly uncontainable, though the common anxiety of meeting another rushed to his chest. Regardless, he wiggled a few centimeters closer and let his ears fall back, tail thudding against the ground softly. "Hi. You looks sleepy."

The youth couldn’t help her mouth from rising up into a smile. She had heard the wolf swishing through the grass before he had approached her. His pace was gentle and hesitant at first, then anxious and excited as he circled a certain part of the field. Carefully, Ever had listened, body still sprawled, as the male jogged quickly around her companion. Normally, she would have been concerned for her friend, but by the sound of the hushed breeze his form made that had a certain echo, the female could tell the wolf was small.

She hadn’t thought anyone would find her so thick into the field, but evidently she was wrong. A breeze tugged at her fur and carried a high voice that felt like it could lift the sky if it wanted too. Excitement crackled in the air behind the sound. Ever had never thought things could be interoperated so differently behind closed lids.

Slowly, the youth rolled to her side, eyes opening to reveal bright irises the color of misty ocean water. He was much smaller than she had thought, only months by the thickness of his fur. His tail thumped like a wood pecker’s beak on a tree. Gradually Ever’s smile increased before she responded to his inquiry.

And you don’t, little one.

Ever had little experience with pups but she wasn’t an enemy to their fluffy faces and large eyes they would grow into eventually. The boy’s excitement seemed to add to her intrigue.

She opened her eyes to reveal pools of pale blue and Kambujiya simply gazed in silence. Blue eyes were nothing he'd seen before, the sight shocking for him. The recognition brought a wash of joy from the tips of his ears to the tip of his tail and all of the fur and toes in between; the fact that she didn't ignore him was a happy occasion. True, no one had ignored him yet, but it was a possibility. He was young, he was strange, and perhaps they would simply not want to deal with a child's mind. But Niro, and Vigilante, and now this young woman all accepted his presence without irritation.

His greeting was simple, taking his narrow perceptions of the woman as he knew her to craft a sentence that might break the ice. You looks sleepy was all he could muster, but he thought it was accurate. Her eyes were closed, after all, and she was lying down. That heralded sleep in most cases.

But her eyes were open now! Her eyes were open, she had rolled over and smiled. Maybe she hadn't been as sleepy as he had first assumed. His lips appeared to curl upwards as best as a Lupus could as she spoke; "And you don't, little one." It made the pup laugh brightly, rolling onto his back.

"I ain't sleepy, that's a silly." He shook his head and reached his nose towards her, sniffing at the air. His interactions with females were limited and, other than his mother, this was the first adult female he had met in his lifetime. Of course, the place he now lived in smelled like other females, but he didn't seek them out.

Rolling back to his stomach, he inched forward slowly. His brown eyes scanned her grey, patterned pelt curiously. Though he had come to expect that the others around him weren't going to be a bland, solid hue, he was still getting used to the concept of patterned fur. "You gots pretties colors. 'M Kam!"

Seriously, beat me with a chair for forgetting.

Ever watched his movements with bright, interested eyes. Pups weren’t common in Miracle’s, though Ruri would be due any week now. She vaguely remembered her childhood years; they were all a horrible blur long ago. But, with a glance behind the small wolf, it appeared he came with no parents.

Nice to meet you Kam. I am Ever. And thank you, your colors reminds me of the sun.

The girl pushed her smiling muzzle gently towards his sand colored pelt. Rolling on her stomach to face the young wizard Ever could smell the early dew still on the blades of grass. Even though the two were a good distance away from the sea the salt from the waves drifted above their heads and under their noses. She wondered what the pup had busied himself doing most of this sunny day.

The few lazy clouds were drifting away over the hills, revealing smooth endless patches of blue. Aqua sky reflected in the youths eyes as she took another look towards the air. Her white fingers flexed in the soft earth until she reached the moist under clay. It was a refreshing feeling even though the rays of sun had comfortably warmed her stomach.

OOC. I don't think a cerebral wound would do much for memory. XD

He was pleased to meet someone knew, and even more pleased that she was friendly rather than unpleasant. It was exciting to spend time with someone who might be able to be a esteemed colleague. The pack didn't have any other pups for him to play with, though Vigilante had promised there would be, and he was disappointed at the amount of time that he spent alone, wandering around. The chance to interact with the older female was taken eagerly.

"Nice to meet you, Kam. I am Ever." Though he heard the female's name, it didn't register in his mind as a long term memory. In fact, it didn't seem to register at all as he gawked at her and smiled brightly. She pushed her muzzle toward him, rolling onto her stomach and smiled. It brightened his features. Taking a deep breath, he noticed the scent of the giant ocean he had only seen a few days before, and the delicate smell of dew on the grass that he had crushed beneath his big puppy paws.

"You likes sittin' here? Looks borin'! But you gotsa big horsie, ya? Horsie keeps you company?" The questions rolled out of his mouth in shotgun fashion, one right after the other without a chance to answer. His tail thudded gently against the ground.

The youth beamed at the young pup. She had to listen closely to register his words but was deeply entertained by his broken language compared to her fluent tongue. Her nose twitched at the breeze which pleased her to see that the younger wolf had noticed it too.

At the mention of her golden steed, she was vaguely embarrassed to realize she had forgotten about the stallion. Her sea-blue eyes traveled across the high grass in the field and to the large palomino figure grazing now near the shade of on the trees along the edge. Teeth glinting in a new found smile, Ever nodded gently but enthusiastically, turning back to search for the pup in the pale grass.

Would you like to go see him, Kam? Then we can go play if you would like. Your right, it is boring just sitting.

Ever flashed him another dazzling smile and stood slowly, moving her body so that the boy wasn’t directly in her shadow. Suddenly, the thrill of having a family swept over her. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

He wiggled around in the grass for a moment as he asked her about the boringness (not a word) of her sitting. Why wasn't she spending time with her horse? He seemed like he would make a good friend, like Niro's birds. Ever's smile made his tail wiggle around more than it already had been. She nodded, looking at the palomino creature before looking back to him. "Would you like to go see him, Kam?" Then we can go play if you would like. You're right, it is boring just sitting." She stood as she spoke and his ears flattened before he bounced up an a dance of excitement. "I can go sees it?! Does it gots a name? Niro's birdie gots a name, issa named Marahute 'n she's a nice birdie." His words shot out in rapid-fire form as he scampered around her legs. Though he was excited, he balked as he went to approach the equine figure, hesitating and running to hide behind Ever's legs. "Is he a nice horsie?" His nose wrinkled up as he spoke, ears flattening against his skull.

His tail dropped between his legs as he looked towards it, surprised my the massive size in comparison to his own body.

In comparison to the cool soil underneath the soft field grass, it felt nice to have the warm breezes brush along her back. She lead Kam over to Saphraine who barely stirred at their presence. Sleek white muzzle ripped up grass until Ever’s touch brought his golden head up.

His name is Saphraine, but I call him Raine.

The girl murmured, running her hands down both sides of his neck. He was slightly damp with sweat from the afternoon so she understood why he moved into the shade. Ever looked down at the pup and nodded reassuringly. At the talk of Niro, she wondered how many people had met the new younger member.

He is very nice.

She didn’t forget to mention he was wild, but it wasn’t something she mentioned to everyone. They might take him away, or force training upon him. He really was a sweet stallion even if he was more like a guardian than a “pet” to the girl. Ever fingered his forelock braid with her fingers and smiled when he nuzzled her exposed stomach.

[html]OOC: So sorry for the absence!

He followed Ever in an anxious toddle, trying to overcome the fear he felt toward the large animal. It was big. Too big. So much bigger than he was; but, in truth, it wasn't so much bigger than Ever. As she approached, he watched her hands run down the sides of the 'monster's neck. She wasn't scared of him at all. "His name is Saphraine, but I call him Raine." Kambujiya blinked several times. So he did have a name.

The pup smiled uneasily. "Pretty name. I likes pretty names." If he had hands, he would have reached a tenative one toward the stallion; as it was, he sat near Ever's feet and simply gazed upward at him. "He nice? Nice is good. Nice things not bite you, yeah?" His head turned toward his new friend, letting the uneasily smile fade into a broad grin of joy as he watched her.

Do you mind ending here? I don’t see what else they could do. :]

Ever could still feel his uneasiness. She watched him curiously while he slumped down by her feet, silently judging his size next to the stallion. A smile played itself on her fragile lips as black hands continued to linger in all of Saphraine’s muscles. He breathed out and his barrel shuddered with content, ears flicked one towards the wolves and the other towards the sea.

No, he won’t bite. He has never bitten a soul.

The girl answered the boy truthfully. She couldn’t recall ever being bitten by the stallion or watched him bite another. His uneasy smile fading to a grin making Ever giggle quietly to herself. She could get used to him.
